I love how Karl always says "so he was born" whenever he recounts the lives of historical figures. I don't think Ricky and Steve ever take the mick out of that. It's like telling someone about your plane trip and saying "so the plane took off..."
They missed a few things that we would consider fundamental. Especially Ricky, who was more didactic with Karl. I think that Ricky sometimes kept Karl in the dark deliberately, because there was more mileage in it.
His stories are BS, but he's a comedian, his job is to make stuff up to make people laugh - which he does very well. That's something that makes Karl so likable - he's funny without trying to be, he just's honest and acts as himself.

I reckon the school looked up the wrong person, or just did a token gesture of asking teachers if they remembered him, and the history teacher was the only one who remembered what he got. As little as Karl cared about school, or remembers the specifics, I’m sure he would indeed have been registered to sit maths and English, along with various other subjects - art for example, which he remembered working towards. I don’t find it plausible that he was only registered for history, yet Ricky and Steve seem happy to accept that version of events as fact.
Continuing my humble suggestions for new titles - Man Moth, I think this one should be either "That's It Son, You're Joining the Army", or "'Esther Was Superb' - Woman".
