When my husband's grandmother made soap he wasn't allowed in the back yard lol They did it outside under a wood fire in a big cast iron kettle and stirred it with a sawed off broom handle. They made enough soap for a year and used it for everything from cleaning, laundry and bathing. The local butcher would give you pig or cow fat for free to get rid of it. Ok, it was 60 yrs ago and they also gave chicken wings away for free. People used them for stock. Little did they know Buffalo wings would come into existence lol Great video, I'm learning so much from you.:o)
Thomas, I know and it's appalling. I didn't come from that and wasting was not tolerated. How much of this wasted food could go to shelters or other organizations who feed the hungry.
LOL! Believe it or not this was how I made soap 25 yrs. ago before stick blenders were invented. Didn't microwave it just stirred it....for an hour...that was my job at one point! I LOVE stick blenders! LOL
Made my first 3 lb batch of SBHP today and used the caps just like you had mentioned a few months ago. Once I got my first volcano it didn’t stop until it was done. Thank you for sharing your technique. Made sure my oils were about 190 and my lye solution over 200. It’s all because of you. I now make all three types of soap: cp, hp, and mp. I’ll share my business site when it’s all up and running.
I made soap for the first time today, & since I don't want to buy a stick blender, but I have a cake blender, I used the cake blender to mix my lye solution & oil together. Between the regular attachment & whisk attachment, the whisk attachment did the job to achieve that trace I need to put into my make shift shoe box mold. I hope that tomorrow, my soap will solidify. Wish me luck. It took me ~4-5 hours, because the regular attachment couldn't make the trace I need. Next time I make soap, I'll stick to the whisk attachment.
Great video back on the farm my mother and grandparents would use a broom stick to stir the soap. There weren't any of these gadgets back then. I think doing it versatile is a good to.
Honestly i'm terrified of trying hot process soap. I'm starting to want to do more natural soaps and you've just inspired me to give it a shot! Love watching your channel! Happy soaping!
I tried making soap through cold-process by stirring (without a stick blender). I managed only about 20 minutes (not 1 hour as I am suppose to do) before I gave up and kept the pot aside while covering it with a plastic wrap. It's two weeks later and the mixture has solidified. Is this solid stuff considered soap and is it safe to use?
Last time i tried it, the oil and lye were separated on the pot like the lye only got mixed with little amount of oil. I ended up blend them in a blender and it reached vaseline stage after around 3 minutes of blending on medium speed lol
I don’t get to talk much but I want you as often as I can. I have been so scared to do the hot stick blender method that you’ve been doing for a while. This has helped me a lot. As a matter fact I may try that today. Never thought that would work without a stick blender. You were a very brave woman and I thoroughly enjoy watching your soap making videos. Where in the world did you get The clear containers that you mixed you soap in ? Loving them !,
Could you use a whisk attachment on a hand blender? I know the beater attachments will splash it around too much because it goes so fast but I’m wondering if my single whisk attachment would be fine to use? The amount of going back and forth mixing it and checking it looks annoying! Is all HP soap like this?!

I understand why you didn’t want the lye water to hang around, could you have put the water in a glass jar and had it hold until Monday? You rock for all that whisking!!
May I ask where you purchased your measuring container that your mixing in? Also, where did you say you purchase your supplies? p.s. My arm hurts watching you
oh, thanks for the reply! I just got some more ingredients and am going to try again! I think that some of the olive oil wasn´t 100% olive oil and contained soy.
Why do you have to get such a thick trace.. can't you pour at trace similar to stick blended soap.. i did make my first batch and poured in about 5-10mins after blending using a wisk..i had a fairly thick trace also. Only difference i did apart from the TH-cam videos is to mix the oil with lye water which was prepared at that moment (hence it was hot)
I was just making hot process soap. If I was doing cold then I cold have poured it sooner but I wanted to try hot process soap so my soap was completely finished.
HowToMakeSoap just out of curiosity, does the way I've done it could have led to a false trace.. it's my first attempt you know.. i haven't used it yet..

Oh yeah! Those huge fires were something else! I know! Now we pay for all the stuff that was "trash" back then. LOL!
Exactly. But it also meant nothing went to waste. I'm appalled at the waste I see today. It didn't exist 50 yrs ago and it doesn't exist for me.:o)
Oh I know! It's just sickening how much is wasted!
Thomas, I know and it's appalling. I didn't come from that and wasting was not tolerated. How much of this wasted food could go to shelters or other organizations who feed the hungry.
my mom made it over heat in the back yard to but she didn,t stir all the time and it turn out good.
What a woman! No lie I probably would have drove to Walmart and got a new stick blender! I am proud of you for sticking it out!😊💝🎊

What a workout. I remember how tired my hands, wrists and forearms would be when I first started making soap. Thank God for stickblenders.

Nice job!! I have a new respect for hotel room shower caps now! Lol
Thank goodness for stick blenders. I've had my KitchenAid for many years. It's a hero! You're a hero for not giving up! :)
Wait, it got hotter as you whisked? At 15:33 it was 215 (or 250, I couldn't hear). What did it start out as?
Great video back on the farm my mother and grandparents would use a broom stick to stir the soap. There weren't any of these gadgets back then. I think doing it versatile is a good to.
i once tried mixing without handblender working on a budget it took me about 10 hours never again
Lol😂😂😂😂😂😊😊

Hi Tara I really enjoy your videos I have tried your stick blender method twice and it came out good
Yeah!!! Thanks for watching!
So glad you make these videos Tawra, helps me to get my soap making fix without having to make any 😁
LOL!
A cake mixer would help. thanks for sharing you are a brave woman.
I would like to know if I can make cold press soaps that is 3 pounds with 13 oz coffee tins?
Constant heat of a crockpot really helps ☺
Last time i tried it, the oil and lye were separated on the pot like the lye only got mixed with little amount of oil. I ended up blend them in a blender and it reached vaseline stage after around 3 minutes of blending on medium speed lol
That's a lot of work! Hope you have a stick blender on order. Fun to watch. Microwave tip to get it going was great. Thank you.

It would put too much air into your soap and cause bubbles, which turns into holes in the your soap.
Love the idea of using a shower cap for a cover! Two thumbs up!! :)
Yes! Thank you!
Thank goodness for stick blenders
I agree!
I .love it god bless u
Can i use a electric beater?
No, it will put too much air in your soap make holes in it.
brilliant video very interesting. I love the music - suitable for your character
How long it actually took you to make it
About 45 minutes.
HowToMakeSoap oh ok that's not too bad
Couldn't hear you well. The music was a bit too loud.
I love your moxie!
Loved the video, just had a bit difficulty hear you through the music part.
Whew!! I'm tired just watching!! Lol. Thank goodness you got another stick blender. Fun video!!
Nice
i've tried this one and took me 3 hours ti reach a thin trace.
Yes, depending on the oils you're using it can take awhile. Usually not that long. About an hour is normal.
SO, will you make it like that again?
I used to do it for my job at a flower shop. No microwave, just the stirring...for an hour.... it was a lot of work!
Oh no, I probably won't unless I need a video! hehehe
I could see that from the video. I'm not sure I'm ready for all that stirring. My wrists couldn't take it! I was very impressed though!
Six months later............ I can't wait to challenge my wrist!!!!!!! Isn't that the reason they invented hospitals??????? Lol😂😂😂😂😄😅😉😐😇
Great video!!

I sell my own supplies now. homemadesoapmakingsupplies.com/
the container was purchased at Sam's.
I tried soap making yesterday and whisked for over two hours and still didn´t get a trace :( Came here to get some clues...
It only usually takes an hour. You probably would have been fine to put it in the mold after 1 hour. Just put it in the mold, it should be fine.
oh, thanks for the reply! I just got some more ingredients and am going to try again! I think that some of the olive oil wasn´t 100% olive oil and contained soy.
The soy shouldn't have made a difference.
I am confused. Did you use lye in this or it is totally naturally made? I hate adding lye I t's like chemical.
I added lye. Lye is a chemical but without out it you don't have any type of soap at all.
This is insane! She must have arms like Hercules
Why do you have to get such a thick trace.. can't you pour at trace similar to stick blended soap.. i did make my first batch and poured in about 5-10mins after blending using a wisk..i had a fairly thick trace also.
