Pokémon TCG Illustration Contest 2022 ‘Charizard’

If you want to see how you can lose the Pokémon TCG Illustration Art contest then you’ve come to the right place! Here is one of the two entries I submitted to last year’s 2022 contest.
They narrowed 10,830 entries down to 300, 100 and so on and I did not make a single place. Which means without anything for me to get disqualified from or any contracts to honor, I can now post myself creating it! Don’t take any tips from me though-this is not what they are looking for…
The theme was to capture a moment in a normal day of a Pokémon’s life OR illustrate its life and adventure with the theme “The daily life of Pokémon”. In my other entry I portrayed a very uneventful yet cute daily life of Pikachu BUT for this Charizard one I wanted to portray some adventure!
I drew this in January so the New Year’s inspiration was still in the air! Being from Hawaii, fireworks are such a HUGE part of the occasion so it was fresh in my mind along with my vision to choose a scene that could work with the Pokémon’s own abilities.
I imagined Charizard has wandered off on New Year’s Eve and happens upon all the festivities just as the clock strikes midnight. Naturally he joins in on the celebration and puts his fire powers to use.
To me this scene is badass, full of energy and excitement! I’ve never seen a scene like this portrayed in a Pokémon card and I think this would have made a really cool and creative one that I, personally, would have loved to collect.
