This is perfect! I am an 8th Grade Social Studies teacher and I am going to be starting my unit on Slavery in America, and I am going to teach my students about Barney Ford

I love that so much!!! I didn't know about Barney at all until a few months ago, and I wish I had learned about it in school. This will be so great for students to learn because it is so inspiring, especially in making students of color feel seen and validated. :)

I would have loved to learn this years ago. I may be white, but learning experiences from all times and people is a gift.

This documentary was excellent! I hope it is shown on PBS TV one day as I think it should be seen by more people! I hope I catch more stories like this one!

What a great documentary. I learned of Mr. Ford during a trip to Breckenridge last year and had the pleasure of visiting the museum.

Did you know you don't have to be black to learn black history? Of course you did... but it didn't dawn on me that I needed to seek it out as it was excluded from what I was taught. I'm glad I did. Today I learned about Mr. Barney Ford and Fannie Mae Duncan. Although I'm 48, it's not too late to start and to hopefully better understand.

In awe of Mr. Barney Ford, been in the Breckenridge home, highly recommend it, there is parking behind the house so high priced parking isn't an issue.

LEE Gash-Maxey ~ Your words to Gods ears. You are so right on sister. My heart and love goes out to ALL those whom have been affected by this countries countless past atrocities. Shame on all those in a position to make the educational curriculum changes but you still choose not to. In my opinion, turning a blind eye in these so-called “modern times” is worse than the original atrocities. So Profoundly shameful. 😢😞

An attractive man. He had the look of intelligence, and of someone who would be a CEO, Administrator, Executive. Only prejudice, a concept learned, a Lower Mind ideology, would hold him or anyone from their dreams.

I didn’t know any of this history, even that Colorado had the first voting rights for African Americans.

1980s High School in Eaton spoke of Ford. Why not praise the man despite historical crimes he suffered.

Dang, they steal his claim and run him off, and then name the place “Ni**** Hill” ... F those people. So glad he came back to town and showed them how to actually live and participate in society.

These people are inane. Dark skinned blacks that had incredible influence are Frederick Douglas, Dr. Martin Luther King, B.B King, Nate King Cole - just to name a few. So to say light skinned blacks vs dark skinned blacks have advantage is frivolous. It comes down to the individual and the drive of the individual. The facts don’t add up.

All these non historians keep stepping on the story to add their two cents of political exploitation. Stephan Shepard was the only Historian telling us about the Colorado Experience of a Black American. I don't what the others thought this was about, Racial Politics? Funny how they completely ignored the other half, the white's who helped, they didn't express who these people were at all. It makes things one sided and only breeds anti white sentiments. It's about people, not race. That's why Quakers didn't subscribe to this. It's important know people as people, not just color.

I'd like to know about Eastern Europeans who were part of making America. Many of us have surpressed histories.
