  • When the United States of America was founded, the ideals of freedom and equality did not apply to all people. These are the stories of the brave Americans who fought to right the nation’s wrongs and enshrine the values we hold most dear into the Constitution - with liberty and justice for all. Executive produced and hosted by Will Smith.
After escaping slavery, Frederick Douglass becomes a pivotal voice calling for citizenship for Black Americans, a dream realized in the 14th Amendment.

I grew up and had a "good" education in the US, and must admit I had no idea who Frederick Douglas was for much of my life. And then only snippets. I cannot say how grateful I am late in life to watch this powerful film and see just how Abraham Lincoln and others worked with Douglas and others to bring about the great social shift that America still struggles with to this day. Much gratitude for a sophisticated, clear, passionate and much-needed story to fill us in on unforgivable gaps in education.

This is such an educational documentary for me. While in school in American Samoa and High School in Hawaii and I was not really knowledgeable about the Black History. And when I moved to "America," I watched the differences between how white and black folks have not the same rights. To make a longer story short! My skin is brown and I also now feel the awful way that most people of color are being treated. I just want to say thank you for this documentary because I've learned something new about my right as a human-being. And now I will Embrace My 14th Amendment Right!!!!!

It's 5:41am, I just started watching, once Mr. Douglass escapes to New York, the white guy says that Mr. Douglass is breathing "free air" for the first time. That phrase broke me down, I had to pause the clip. After a few minutes I resumed, and had to pause again at that phrase. Slavery's air wasn't free and as a run away slave his air was still not free.

One day and it is coming very soon....there will be no more division of humanity and all our human rights will be free as our beloved Creator Source always has intended for us to live in peace everyday and become more spiritually mature as one civilization under one Creator Source , even though we have all been seeded here by many different types of galactic family members who are mostly benevolent. We have already won the universal haulacaust and now we are taking back our freedom and human rights as our birth rights as free souls who have been coming back many many lifetimes for this greatest awakening ever during this shift change and Revelations period where the truth shall set everyone free from the dark forces of greed power and control over humanity and is now being replaced with love , compassion kindness generosity and service to others with more healthy programs instead of being under the thumbs of big pharma tech globalist world leaders straight to the Vatican and under the tunnels under the White House where there was much satanic rituals child trafficking tortured children and families used as guinea pigs and service to satanic sick individuals. WE THE PEOPLE are here to learn the truth and the truth shall set everyone free from the past lower vibrational entities of reptilian bloodlines dna that have been seeded here by the Annunakis used for digging gold and agriculture and then took it out of context and way too far into the deep state of mind control and greed for selfish agendas behind closed doors. The secret societies hidden agendas and the alphabet soup groups are being removed one by one and the swamps are being drained one by one of the wicked ones who have not had our best interest at heart 🙏💖 Amen

First off, they omit proper perspective when omitting facts such as "slavery" was common practice worldwide and the USA was one of the very few nations actually attempting to eliminate slavery. That every race on earth was subject to slavery and in various countries kept in slavery.
Last, read the 13th Amendment that freed the slaves. It does NOT prohibit slavery. Every prisoner, guilty or innocent, become a slave of the government.

Knowing the true history gives you purpose but most importantly a reason why America has to be Great. Lessons learned and earned should be taught to the World. Mankind across the planet are dealing with similar issues but in different forms and shapes. If Mankind is to succeed far into the future then proven earned solutions are needed. Just looking at this first episode it has constructive intentions and hopefully will do some good for all Americans as we live together and succeed together.

My ancestors, so strong. I wish I had their intelligence, strength, determination. They overcame so much through a horrendous struggle and still became successful.

citizenship is the right to have rights, you have the right to pariticipate, the right to vote, you have the right to be able to call on the government and also get the protections against the government.

We’re not going to get past it. Although we’re not in the fields in the plantation it has talking different forms. They’re going still hunting us, still oppressing us when they stop and level the playing field we will get past it. Hell you mean.

    And here we are.
Over a hundred years later and half the nation can still find excuses for over 60 bullets into the body of a young black man at a traffic stop.
    Why can't my people take a hint?😢

Exactly. So would have the presidents who enslaved people and did horrible things such as genocides and so would have almost all enslavers such as Arron Anthony Frederick Douglass’s first enslaver and who was alleged to be Fredericks biological father. In that case all of those horrible people would be brought to justice for their crimes. The only presidents who would probably get off easy or not be punished as harshly might be George Washington and Ulysses S Grant due to them ultimately having seen the error of their ways on slavery and doing the right thing by freeing those that they had enslaved.
