The intimate, intense and loving story of Hope Gap charts the life of Grace (Annette Bening), shocked to learn her husband (Bill Nighy) is leaving her for another after 29 years of marriage, and the ensuing emotional fallout the dissolution has on their only grown son (Josh O’Connor). Oh, I'm SO GLAD Bening made the film. It has been profoundly cathartic and healing for me; I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job. I agree with the commenter here, there are scenes that blew me away. I was in awe - but only the second time I watched; the first time I was completely immersed. I couldn't register responses until the second viewing. THAT's a successful film. It would be a shame if Bening doesn't get an Oscar.
She was terrific in this. As was O'Connor and Nighy. I know this will be a weird year for the Academy but I hope they recognize their performances.
