Thank you, Paul and Clay. Hearing this helps. I love Steve, John and Jimmy as individuals. Knowing that they were friends and laughed together makes it all the more special.

There will never be another Steve Goodman and now there will never be another Jimmy Buffett. For almost 40 years, when I would go to a Jimmy Buffett show, I was able to hold on to the memories of the days back in Chicago when I’d see Steve play and I remember one special night that he called a friend of his to join him on stage at the Quiet Knight, to join him in a song or two. That would be the first of 30 to 40 times over the years I would go see Jimmy play. God, l was so lucky.
Paul, I thoroughly enjoyed this series of interviews with Jimmy Buffett and Clay Eals. I think it’s interesting that what Jimmy describes as his interactions with Goodman after his cancer diagnosis seem to parallel Jimmy’s experience when he got cancer. Keep it private, stay positive. When I started watching videos of Mac McAnally and others talk about the end and how Jimmy wanted to keep the party going, I wonder if he took inspiration from his experiences with Goodman. I know when I heard how Jimmy faced the end, I thought to myself, that is exactly how I would like to go out as well…hell of a ride, keep the party going, stay positive to the end!
Hello Mike, thanks for watching the interviews. I had that same kind of thinking about Goodman’s diagnosis. I’m inspired to keep doing interviews and writing about Buffett. There are still so many stories we can tell.
In part 2 , when Jimmy talks about playing to his strengths, he mentions Steve wasn’t a great guitar player. I was under the impression Steve was a really good guitar player? I think a large part of Jimmy’s success came from the lifestyle he was selling and continued with his ever expanding business empire. Thank you for uploading this interview.
I think these three: Buffett, Prine , and Goodman, along with Willie and Waylon had more influence on my music than anyone else in the business. Maybe, without thinking too much, These guys had more influence on the WAY many people perform and their goals for performing have been influenced by these guys more than they'll ever even realize this day and time !

Wow. What a great comment. Thank you for listening and for this positive feedback! We’ll have more things in store. Thank you again!

Extremely lucky.

Thanks for checking out the interview. I also was under the impression that Steve was an impressive guitarist.

Very influential singer-songwriters. And only Willie Nelson is still with us.
