My father was a fighter pilot in VF-20 in air group AG-20 on the Enterprise CV-6 and the Lexington CV-16 starting when he was 19. AG-20 started with 72 planes and they lost 41 pilots on the Enterprise and 30 on the Lexington. From what I’ve heard, unlike most he started talking with me about his experience as long as I can remember. It began in 1952 when we would sit down together and watch Victory at Sea. This is my earliest memories. We did this with different programs like World at War as long as he lived. I remember him telling me before he died that he wouldn’t fight for the country the US had become. And this is before realizing the US had teamed up with Nazis in Ukraine and supported Israel in its apartheid, concentration camp, and genocide of Palestinians. That is not to ignore the 20 million people the US has killed since WWII. The greatest benefit I got from this is that I knew when I was a little boy I would never go into combat.
Great man and brave soldier God bless you and as a catholic i say shalom
