    Thank you much. very informative and educational. From someone who studies WWII Pacific/Asia, I know a fair amount already but, now know more because of this. Recommended.

    An interesting and comprehensive look at the construction of a legend. And a work of PR genius. Undoubtedly no accident that old Joe Sr. was considered the smartest tycoon in Hollywood. He mastered the new media of his time.

    Great story! I’d like to know if there was a response from the Japanese? Did they look for survivors? If not, did they radio their command to look for any?
    Did they even know what had happened when the spilled fuel ignited on their starboard quarter?
    It seems that it would have been profitable from an intelligence viewpoint to take prisoners.
