Really nice job on fixing these up - sounds better than even the recent 10" vinyl release. You can properly hear that "Atom Beat" for the first time - big HEAVY sound on Memphis Tennessee. I know Ringo fans will start weaping, but I actually like Pete's drumming just fine. Maybe take The Polydor stuff, The Decca Demos and these first 2 BBC shows and create some sort of Beatles w/Pete Best collection??
Pete's intense drumming was what initially attracted the German fans like Klaus and Astrid. A lot of fans were disappointed when he was no longer with the band because Pete played very loud and boisterously.
@@Treemur Obviously, a new "energy", a new "electricity", emerged in the months after Pete was sacked, fueled primarily by the excitement of the band recording songs, getting on the radio, hitting the Top 20 of the UK charts, as well as the emerging songwriting brilliance of Lennon and McCartney. And sure, John and Paul were terrific frontmen. But what Astrid was saying was that Pete, as the far and away most popular Beatle, was the vital member of the band during his tenure, and his absence left such a void that The Beatles had to re-brand themselves after he was gone, which again, they did primarily with their songwriting. Here's another quote for you, which illustrates how Pete's drumming defined The Beatles' sound. This is what a contemporary drummer of Pete's said when he was asked in an interview what he thought of Pete's drumming: *"He was a genius. You could sit Pete Best on a drum kit and ask him to play for 19 hours and he'd put his head down and do it. He'd drum like a dream with real style and stamina all night long, and that really was The Beatles' sound, forget the guitars. I was amazed when they replaced him. I even thought about learning guitar so he could be the drummer in my band. The Beatles didn't hate Pete Best, but they didn't want to be outshone by their drummer. Ringo was a good drummer but he was more ordinary."* -- Chris Curtis, drummer for The Searchers, a great Liverpool band who scored a 1964 Top 3 Hit in the US charts with their classic, "Love Potion # 9". Chris saw Pete Best play many times in both Hamburg and Liverpool during Pete's two years as The Beatles' drummer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's Pete Best drumming on the first five songs (Mar.7-June 11, '62), Ringo after that (Aug.22, '62, his first live performance with them as an official band member, although he had played with them in Hamburg).
Great glimpse of the early band. Pretty much the same songs on the Live from Hamburg recording from Dec '62, but glad to hear these "new" versions. You could tell they're a great band, but can't tell they'd become the worldwide Earth-changing phenomenon they were about to become.
Great work Peter! Sounds the best I’ve ever heard it. I’m sure you spend hours and hours doing this. And the more technology improves, the better and better this will sound.
Amazing 😎👍I Know These Tracks When I Bought CD " I Saw Her Standing There " In 2013😁 But For First Time I Heard Live At Manchester In October "A Taste Of Honey "And " P.S. I Love You "😮😎 Because These Tunes Aren't Including On CD "I Saw Her Standing There " Why 🤔 Thanks To Upload, Mr. Peter Jones 😄 Thank You So Much 🙇
Fantastic stuff! Thank you so much for all the loving care and expertise you put in to this. Was it you who did the newly cleaned up Stowe school recordings too? It's so good to hear more of these precious fragments from 'our' beloved Beatles, prior to international stardom, and perhaps even more importantly, to have them preserved in such great shape for all musicians, music historians and fans to access in perpetuity.
@@peterjones9700 Thank you for that, Peter - I've saved it to watch later. The parts I've already listened to sound a lot better than versions I've heard previously. It should have many more views! Thanks again for the work you've done on these, it's appreciated.
I sincerely hope all that listen to this fine compilation will take note that the Pete Best contribution ends after song number 6. Please folks, no silly commentary about how great "Poor Pete" was while actually referring to Ringo's far more solid beat.
Many prefer Pete's heavy beat for that early rock which the others kept asking him to step up and Ringo couldn't carry some rolls! However Ringo fitted in much better and grew. Àlso his left handed play of a right wing drum kit suited those early Beatle compositions. I'm glad we have Ringo but detest their prolonged treatment of Pete! 🤡
Ha Ha ..good one ( It's pete best). I guess your opinion of a cool beat is a lot different than mine. Perhaps 30 + years of lo fi indie rock has lowered the bar tremendously when it comes to competent drumming.@@junplanas1403
Well, I must admit that I was hoping this comment was going to be in Pete's favor. Not that Pete is great, but many people think that they have to hate on him in order to justify Ringo being in the Beatles. Ringo is justified because he's a great drummer and a perfect fit for the band. I've been a Beatle fan since the 60s, but I do wish that people would just ignore Pete rather than slam him for the rest of his life. We all know that Ringo is the better drummer.
Good for you. I've got nothing against the guy, but he wasn't in Ringo's class as a drummer, and would have continually replaced in recording sessions by session drummers anyway.
Really you have done a very good job getting all this stuff of Early Beatles shows. Tks a lot. Do you know if possible be available many alternative takes from later periods about songs not included in Anthology series. ? Thank you again
Wonder why the Beatles never played “Cry for a Shadow” again after it was recorded in Hamburg. I always thought it a great instrumental, much better than “Catswalk”.
I just have to add my 2 pence worth, as a counter to all the Pete Best apologists, who still exist till this day. Wow carrying that heavy burden for 5 plus decades, and for what? Pete may have been popular, moody, brooding etc., but ultimately he didn't want to play the game. His steadfast refusal to 'improve' as a drummer was his undoing. The remainder of the band improved out of sight, when Ringo arrived, no question. Because Ringo, straightened the band, with his innate timing. He could do fills and rolls, which Pete seemed incapable of, without losing his time in a song. Traditionally bands that try to labour along with the drummer as some sort of titular head, don't ultimately make it. The Beatles recorded output as they grew would have required session drummers to sit in with the band, as Pete would not have been up to it. George martin summed it up when he said that very thing. 'Use Pete as your live drummer', but I'll be using someone else in the studio. Listen to their first attempt at Love me Do, in the studio, with Pete on board. His drumming is a shambles, completely detracts from the song. Game over...
Pete Best on the first 6 tracks. Ringo for the rest. At the end of the first version of Some Other Guy, when Ringo had just joined, you can hear an audience member shouting "We want Pete".
I really enjoy it...and I don't want to spoil it by comparing two drummers.
That photo is much superior to the music. What a great shot

Fantastic job of remastering mate. It is very listenable now! Thank you for uploading!!!👍👍
aBSOLUTLY aGREE!
I would love to go back in time and see these guys in Hamburg.
This sounds great--much better than the cassette I made of the "Beatles at the BEEB" radio show when I was a kid!

Though petes drumming isn't as good as ringos. I still find it hypnotic. Especially on memphis..
Love it really very good

Why didn't they record 'A Picture of You', 'Please Don't Ever Change' or some of the other great covers they used to do I'll never know

Some of the tracks here have Ringo playing on them
Pete Best suonava come si suona una batteria di pentole....
That's Paul singing lead vocal on "Please Mr. Postman" as opposed to the version on "With The Beatles" where it's John singing.
nope
Definitely John. You can hear Paul on backing vocals.
OK, I was wrong. I only heard it from the speaker in the phone, now I have heard it on a proper speaker.

Der erste Titel wurde aber von keinem der Beatles gesungen.
playhouse ,the drumer is pete best. ringo plays rets of the songs
That's got to be Pete Best?
Nope , Ringos on there to, look at the dates.
