I beat it back in the day but I think my character was 25 years old. You did it by the time he was 19. Damn. I was also impressed with your market dealings and investment work in the Arabic, Indian and Asian territories. Fantastic work there. I was also impressed with your combat prowess. I always sucked at that. Lol. I think the only thing I did better than you was navigate sailing. Other than that, you were wayyyyyyy better than me in every other aspect of this game. Kudos, to you and thanks for posting this. I had fun watching it.

KOBKStreak I’m in the same boat (pun intended as I’m a dad now making lamed jokes 😂) My best friend in my school days had this on NES and we both took turns playing through this at times. I loved the exploration and trading part of the game and couldn’t fight pirates to save my life. Seeing this being back memories of my childhood.... however as I’m getting closer to 38 times around the sun, I still feel young so that’s all that matters I’m still having fun. Koei made some fun historical based games back then.
I've only ever played the sequel, New Horizons. But can still tell that this is a very good game. Even the Overworld music is awesome. It kind of baffles me that neither this game nor New Horizons made it to the best games list in the final issue of Nintendo Power.
Uncharted Waters: A game i truly loved but i never got good at it. Every little progress i ever made felt so rewarding, every blunder felt so devastating
I've finished this game many times. Although Authority(Charisma) seems to be the most important, it can be increased when your sailing skill has increased. So I always set it at 85. As for courage and strength, courage can be increased with charge, while strength can be increased with fire cannons. I usually set high courage, average strength. My favorites navigators are Marco, Miguel, Jose, Conrad. Nicolas is not good in combat. His loyalty always drop every battle. If you keep battle very often, he will flee (with your ship) first.
@@teholdsedare At first I liked to combat a lot, but my rank always ended with Count. Later I focused on treasure hunting, far east job. Until someone asked me to kill someone, I would change to heavy galleon. At the end game Miguel and I maxed out all stats. I was even promoted to Duke. Anyway playing it many times, I can tell you that when you enter the port and your skill has increased. Your stats increase randomly. So the best way is to jot it down in the notepad, then save the game, then enter the port. If the stats increase too little, just reload and enter the port again. 😎
You know what? I think that this game would honestly be the basis for a great video game to Netflix series adaptation. Moreover, I think that it would also have a good historical fiction bent as well, even though completely different people ruled over Portugal and Spain during this time.
There was (probably still is) a bug. The investment. If you put in a number say 77777 (or 66666, multiple of same digit), the cargo space on the ship will be exceed the norm. But will need 20000 of something (anything), to keep the bug alive. Can do on multiple ships.
Games like this were meant for those with lots of spare time and nothing else to do. Being an adult and working 10-12 hours a day, this game would collect dust.

DN 13 my notes are long gone but I remember had to take notes cause there was no way to remember all the buying and selling prices haha

Great game for the era. I played the crap out of this game, beat it several times. Loved the trading aspect and the exploration angle.

Contrary to my previous comment, I have this game now for the SNES and it's a blast.
I had no idea this game existed! It's basically like a primitive Sid Meier's Pirates for the NES!

top 3 relate to sailing skill bottom 2 skills are combat. They have a chance to increase as you level up. As does any Mate.
