Trunks seems like an incomplete masterpiece. He has a decent kit and an amazing standby skill but really needs those RNG on those super attacks to build the DR otherwise he’s a huge liability early on; Had they allowed him to have guarantee super attacks and stack in his 12 Ki SA he would be perfect in terms of being a well designed unit but he definitely falls a little short until we see longer stages.

What in the world is incomplete about him, unless you're unlucky he can literall pull out a 30 mil atk stat turn 1 while tanking any normal and most supers in the game what the fuck is this downplay. Then on his second turn he doesn't have any issues at all unless you're against goku black who has type advantage against him. And don't even get me started on his standby turn

I'm personally fine with a character being able to tank just normals as long as I know for sure they become a god later down the line.

I would've loved the finisher animation if it wasn't for that last bit. Hell, the TEQ trunks from 2019 has a better animation there imo plus a legit K.O. screen.

My first impressions of this LR Sword of Hope Trunks is that he ends up as a unit similar to LR Final Form Cooler and to an extent, INT Majunior due to their reliance on Super Attacks. His damage is quite impressive, hitting 12-15 million attack stats, with the potential of four super attacks! However, his defense leaves much to be desired, since he’s so damn reliant on those additional SUPERS, not ATTACKS. Trunks isn’t as defensively incompetent as I thought he’d be from reading his passive, since Trunks did tank INT Omega’s SA for 250k damage, which is formidable defense, especially considering it was from OMEGA SHENRON and that this was before Trunks supered himself! His standby is amazing as well, since you have permanent, unconditional guard, and 50% damage reduction for a turn, alongside increased Additional Super Attack chances and buffed damage around 16 million in an attack stat. His Sword of Hope finisher is also ludicrously busted in terms of damage, which should be expected with any Sword of Hope Trunks (I believe it’s around a 50 million in attack stat equivalent on average). My overall rating for this unit is an 8/10, and although I personally believe he’s the worst out of the four main LR’s this celebration for WWDC 2023, I’d rank him in the Top 10 bare minimum, pushing past AGL Kai Goku, the Buu Bros, and MAYBE 5th Year Blue Fusions… (Also, Trunks’s animations, standby finisher (Sword of Hope Slash) included, have actually grown on me, and I’m actually starting to think they look really cool, anyone else agree with that?)

Edit: Also, no. Those animations have not grown on me. They’re extremely stiff and jumpy. Just inferior to just about everything as of late except maybe the AGL Blue duo’s unfused supers.

The one thing i do not like about this trunks is the great chance of SA-ing, is it really that hard for them to change the great change to a guaranteed Super as the second or third attacker in the turn? Literally in the first two turns he was on, he did all normals.
While the other LR's intro gets them more stats DR or Guard, Trunks gets a CHANCE to do another super

@@corgifist having the same opinion as someone doesn't mean you took it from them I mean they are right why the 70% chance of additional versus 40% damage reduction for gohan like even a guaranteed super wouldn't be as valuable as that. That being said you're still more likely to see him do 3 supers than only 1 so it's not all bad unless you get really unlucky in which case you would still only take damage from supers in most events unless he's like 55% with no support on rotation

I think the reason he's more defensively competent than he first looked is that he has very high base DEF, which makes his unimpressive DEF of 275% much more impressive combined with stacking and DR. And he hits really, really hard as expected.
It's like they divided two teams during development, one making gohan's animations and other one with less experiencie making trunks' animations

In his base, he kind of reminds me of LR Cooler, he is very dependent on getting those supers off, which can make him inconsistent but in the right situations he can cook masterfully.
It really seems like half the comment section didn't actually watch the video but are instead trying to act like comedians. Trunks not only did tank normals from Goku black and zamasu post super but also consistently hits hard.

After watching this again this kinda reminds me of the Super hero celebration, Trunks isn't bad but the fact that FGohan is way too OP just make him underwhelming.
Future Gohan’s overpoweredness does hurt him, but he’s still problematic in general. He’s clearly the worst LR of this whole celebration, which is just flat out weird as the headlining character.

Shame that Future Gohan overshadows him in kit and animations. Especially as that Finish Attack has such good voicing to it.
Seems like this unit took a bunch of pages from other headliners but didn’t adhere to any of them. Stacks DEF and guards/orb changes mid-game like LR Buu Bomb but worse. Builds DMG reduction like the LR GT Bomb but worse. Gains conditional guard/DMG reduction like LR V&T and LR FPSSJ4 but at the expense of his team. Upside is that it’s a new standby skill type (for now) and won’t clash with other standby skills yet. Quite a letdown that he only has two super attack animations since the standby super attacks are only costume changes. They had plenty to work with. No KO screens is also not great since you’re expected to finish off events with this standby skill.

My problem with his super attacks, is that they all involve his sword. So they kind of just mush together theirs only so much you can do with that. Like the entire budget went into gohan its sad honestly

Getting Beast Gohan incomplete kit vibes from him. If he had at least ONE guaranteed Super I think he'd be much better, because 10% or even 20% damage reduction is usually not going to amount to much against these new bosses Super attacks.
But beast is fine plus he's phy he got free additional in hipo and you Can add some more even without dupes :)
@@XICrOokZz Beast's ki issues makes uncomfortable to run, and he builds up through supers, while he (like this Trunks) has no guaranteed additional super, even though both the 7th year and 8th year LR's do. Even this new LR Gohan does. Regarding Trunks, no matter how much we put into his potential system for Additionals, that doesn't raise the chance of it becoming a super attack. It just raises the probability that he will do an additional attack. The chance for that attack becoming a super remains the same. In the very first turn of this video you see Trunks just doing a bunch of additional normals. And that's probably going to be instant death if he takes a super from a new boss unless he has type advantage. Even if he supers one extra time, that's just 20% damage reduction with no guard.

Worse of the 4. He is a beast if you have luck, but if you don't, you will just die before the 5th turn. Less problematic than I thought but still a problem. Luckly he has his mom to help him. On the active skill he is a beast, but I don't think that is enough.
Oh well, no matter how amazing Gohan is, I am mainly Super Heroes, so obviously I am going for Trunks, even if he is not good as Gohan. Another reason is to grab Bulma and Birku or to get Fuse Zamasu to 79%. 😮
If he had raising DEF on 12 Ki and Greatly Rising in 18 KI Super he would be so much better
Although all my stone but,honestly this Trunks should not get hated this much,sure his animations don’t looks good for some people and he’s not that good for defensive part. We are receinving a gohan, he dells a lot of damage, is a sup and can tank everything. But the star of the show is a bulma str, she is so good, she is really worth of being a world wide celebration char.
all he needed was at least 1 guaranteed additional super and 20% base damage reduction with supers building him up to 50% and he'd be cooking

Tbh, for the headline character of Hope Arc 2/DBS Hope, him not being #1 Unit is very strange.
On top of that, STR Future Gohan (who doesn't take place in DBS) is more reliable right away, mainly since he's already tanky.
But like this Trunks is STR Cooler on steroids/with damage reduction and unlimited defense.
He's still good but him being a part 2 LR instead of a part 1 LR pretty much sealed his fate for him not being the best unit in the celebration. Same thing probably would have happened to Merged Zamasu or Vegito if they were part 2 LRs instead.

@@marshoul2717 The exception doesn't make the rule. Even with how good Gohan is, he's still below Zamasu, and Zamasu's domain is just flat out better than Gohan's.
@TSGenki Infinite Zamasu is better but not his Domain, since majority of difficult content is Extreme class, also both units would have similar defense after their DR wares off (Zamasu probably higher cuz it's a 50% increase) but Gohan has a longer period of his full damage reduction. Both units are contenders for Top 3 or 4 but I do think for now Gohan's team is just more stacked

He's the mix of both 8th anniversary LR, but not in a good way.
Worse stacking of the Buu Duo with worse DR of the GT Duo, worse additional chance in base, worse standby condition and damage, compensate that he can attack during standby.

HOLY!! THEY DID IT! I made a request to Bandai about a one character having Super-ultimate damage in the game, a LR Super Full Power Jiren. This was years ago, back when we just got a Blue Kaioken and Blue Evolved Vegeta. I was hoping it would be an anniversary unit, along with a Kefla, a UI Goku, and an Evolution Blue Vegeta. They FINALLY gave it to someone, and I'm glad it was Trunks! Man, this was the greatest birthday present Dokkan could have given me! 🎉
