    thank you for posting this. My 14 year old projection TV finally gave out and I looking to get a Plasma or LCD. This really helps!

    an LCD TV may have slower reaction if something happens quickly on tv, and an LCD has better quality for those who are close.
    a plasma is better when you sit farther away from the screen or the screen can be more dotted
    LCD TV may not be so large but the plasma TV is able to do it

    burn-in is no longer a problem on these newer plasmas, but can occur only if a static image is one for like 6 hours straight, ive talked to panasonic customer service and they said it was fine for me to play games on my plasma and said i shouldnt experience any burn-in, pretty bold statement coming from them but it makes me feel a little better,

    GREAT! im 16 and im going to be purchasing an HDTV in June to hook up to my xbox 360, this hellped me a lot to decide which one to pick. im thinkin a 46' LCD

    Both sets have improved over time. I have a 6 year old lcd and have never noticed any response time blur and the new lcd's are even faster. Also the Lcd's are more fficient, but the gap is narrowing I think.

    the higher number of Hz which is short for hertz has to do with the refresh rate of the tv. basically the image will be more crisp with the 240 Hz and more blurry with the 120 Hz

    My sister has a 42" Plasma TV and I have 46" LCD. Her tv has slightly better picture quality for watching movies at night but it's a pain in the ass because you can't fall asleep or leave the tv unattended because a still picture can burn the screen. That's why I chose LCD and I'm happy with my decision. I agree with pretty much everything the experts said in the video. LCD is better for video games and Plasma is better for watching movies with the lights off.

    I was quoting from early reviews and reports from CES. No, I don't work for Best Buy, but I do work for a smaller niche dealer that carries the Pioneer Elite brand. Since I wrote that comment we have received the new Elite 720p models, and -- while impressive -- the early reviews overstated the quality improvement. Still, they are the best TV's on the market for the moment, imo.

    As a TV repair engineer, both technologies have their advantages. LCD is cheaper below about 50 inches. Plasma is cheaper in bigger sizes and has better black levels. Plasma TVs do suffer from burn in, but it isn't that significant. I have seen a lot of TVs with bars burnt in from 4:3 content but it's barely noticeable in use.

  • @CypFlyer
    @CypFlyer 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im not quite sure what you mean by not compatible. What are you worried about heat/condensation etc? Usually these things can be found in the tv's tech manual which u can ask for in most show rooms.

  • @hayksamvelyan
    @hayksamvelyan 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the burn in really an issue? I heard from some people that you just kind of have to "break it in" for the first 100 hrs, by not having any logos or borders on the screen. After that it's fine for any kind of viewing, and plasmas have the best picture quality.

  • @mannygee005
    @mannygee005 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is not a bad review.
    If they say it's a Sony plasma, then it's an old model. It must still work because we're seeing a picture on it obviously. 15 years rated for newer models.
    Also, that studio isn't very dark and they have a plasma on display. You can see for yourself at 2:49 if it's bright enough.

  • @Wild1995
    @Wild1995 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought a 42" plasma. I have a dark room and it is fine. I bought it because it was so much less expensive than the LCD. My other tv is a LCD. I notice some glare on the screen on the Plasma and the picture is not as defined as the LCD. But the color is very profound. They are almost the same but the cost difference will have more going plasma. The LCDs are getting very very good but that means they are very expenisve.

    Burn in is no longer an issue with newer plasmas that only happened with earlier tech, I play xbox and mW2 is great on my plasma because the swift motions look crisp

    i used to be a salesman at a electrical store and 3 years never had issues with any gaming systems, maybe 5 year ago plasmas but they are so much better now, and panasonic is the only brand you should buy. LCDs are more likely to become faulty with the liquid crystals burning out

    I have a Plasma, a DLP, (DLPs are great too, but they are heavy and have bulb replacements every 4 years. My DLP is hooked up to my home theater system that is hooked up to my PS3, my upconverting DVD player, and 5.1 Dynaudio speakers.) and 2 LCDs (one for my pc one in my living room) but I strongly prefer my plasma so I have my DVD player, my Xbox 360, and my Wii hooked up in that room. The picture looks simply amazing.

    I'd be happy with either that's for sure! :) but there is a difference or people wouldn't be talking about it.. Plasma has little cells of neon and xenon gas coated with phosphor. Its sort of having millions of tiny neon lights for pixels. They aren't as bright as LCD but they has much better contrast because each pixel is "lit" as needed.. LCDs backlight the entire screen and some light leaks through in the black areas. Thin CRT would probably be the best but it'll likely never get made.

    The newer Lcd TVs now have higher contrast ratios with blacker blacks, so the lcd is good in bright or dark rooms. Lcd TVs also go larger than 50inches now. Old video.

    you are right..i own a 42 plasma pv80 and i'm very satisfied..about those burn in issues...i dont have a problem of it at all...i use my plasma for movies and gaming for ps3 and no problem at all...anyway i only use my plasma gaming for about 3 to 4 hours a day only...lcd is good too.but only for 32 to 37 inches only in my opinion...but if you are going to spend a huge money for once..use it wisely and get a plasma....you get the climax for it.

    I watch my lcd in the dark i just set it to movie mode which changes the colour temp to warm and dims it. I'm happy with it but i've always got a well light room most times. Plus lcd is more economic on power than plasma as far as i know.

  • @FatalShot808

    I think overall Plasma is a better television. Plasma's tend to have a better contrast, better response time(need for games), and less motion blur. On the downside Plasma's are more likely to have image retention and the panels more reflective..

    I have a 42 inch Westinghouse LCD.
    Before you make fun of me, let me give you a little insight.
    I read a review on my TV, and the review describes it as a 'Large PC monitor'.
    Considering that I got this TV for less than $600, it's fucking perfect for me.
    I have a PS3 connected via HDMI input, and I own 'Sin City' on Blu-Ray.
    Sin City, hands down, is the most epic-looking piece of cinema you can view on Blu-Ray. Trust me.
    Anyway, I love my 42 inch LCD, even if it's off-brand

    @Zacccc51 i disagree, for that reason game companies would not make 1080p games. i agree that some games look the same in 1080p and 720p, but there are alot of games that use the 1080p to their advantage example Gran Tourism 5, Dead space 2 and uncharted 3, only to name some. i have both an LCD and a plasma, but i find that the quality and color is alot more vibrant on a plasma, therefore more enjoyable to play.

    If your in a dark room go for plasmas.
    dark movies work very well and skin tones are more accurate.
    Out of the box, some tv are thx cert. so their color reproduction is already very good even without professional calibration.

    SytheX is on point. The only way I would purchase an LCD is if I were buying it solely for gaming or in a very bright room. I would also consider one for a bedroom. I watch a lot of sports, am a moderate gamer and watch a lot of movies. The picture on my 50 inch Samsung Plamsa is fantastic. The black levels and color accuracy are better than even the best LCD's out there. My T.V. is rated to last 100,000 hours and has no burn in issues with things like pixel shift built in.

    for watching movies and bluray i would definetely go plasma.i had a 32 in sharp 60hz lcd and the motion blur was so bad on it i coldnt even play video games on it.i also have a LG 42' plasma with 600hz with an amazing picture and it was only around 700 bucks.if u are concerned with the burn in problem the newer plasmas dont have that problem unless u leave the same picture on the screen for hours and hours.i got the 5 year warranty for two hundred bucks in case anything goes wrong.

  • @Somerandomguy128
    @Somerandomguy128 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a Panasonic plasma and I don't get burn in from logos... I only get burn-in from some video game HUDs but it is temporary and isn't noticeable unless on a white screen. LCDs have horrible contrast ratios and motion blur and bad color so I don't recommend them for anything besides extremely bright rooms.

    Hey guys, i posted a while back about led backlit lcd because this video was 2 years old and technology is a speeding train so i just wanted to inform people.Now i've recently purchased a sony XEL-1 oled tv. Only 11 inch tv but the picture is impressive, this tech is still very expensive compared to plasma/lcd. Bigger is not always better, as on a 60 inch you stretch an image over many more pixels so ud have to have the appropriate distance, this 11 inch is perfect on your office next to your pc

Review on the series 7 led lcd is that is has zero light when its producing black because of the smart led technology. The good thing about plasmas though is that now the tables have turned...Plasmas are cheaper than LCDs nowadays and it must be because they still consume more power and also still have small (but they still do) burn-in problems.
    And won't last as long as an LCD.
    Samsung just released their new line of Plasmas with 600hz refresh rate by the way, a 50'' is like $1500 or so while an LCD 120hz and the same size and brand (or 52'') is around $2500!!

  • @MoonOvIce
    @MoonOvIce 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ummm...as far as I know it's the other way around, plasmas last a shorter time...didn't they have some problems with the tube or something? I always heard plasmas would more or less last 10 years or less while LCDs can last up to 20 years if taken good care of.

  • @TheExtracter

    My original arguement was that the new advances in lcd place it on par or better with plasma, of course when this vid was made lcd's didnt have the refresh rate or contrast they have today. If you really want to make a better comparison id look at newer videos that compare led backlit lcd's with the new plasmas.

    @danydaniel12345 LED Tv's are the same as LCD's but instead of using a CFL they use LED bulbs which are yes more energy effecient and last a long time. I've sold TV's for 4 years and I still say I prefer plasma. Plasmas still offer the fastest response rate which causes less image blur which are found on LCD/LED tv's. Also the black levels are alot darker on the plasma screens. Also for burn in it's very rare I have yet to see that happen.

    While he is immature, he is also right.
    If you're looking for TVs 42" inches and over, Plasmas cannot be beat.
    -Superior motion representation through 0.001 millisecond response times for latest models. Something LCDs cannot match.
    -LCDs cannot achieve true white/black contrast depth because of backlight bleeding out in between pixels.
    -Better for well lit environments which most homes are.
    -Longer life cycles.
    -To top it all off, 1 or 2 grand cheaper than the equivalent LCD of the same size.

    screen burn is a myth, goto a store and tape on the screen the plasma is glass and the lcd is soft, which means the liquid crystals are more likely to burn out, screen burn really only happens if the screen is paused for a very long amount of time, at my old store we had the same channel on from 830 to 530 with the screen logo at bottom of screen and it never burned in. Look at a lcd without a digital box, and when sports or something fast movement is played is drags really bad.

    is the only reason LCD is better for gaming is b/c plasma has potential for more burn in? that's it right, b/c they'll both look amazing. besides, when you watch any sporting event, you always have the ESPN or comcast watermark and the score that's constantly on screen anyway, in regards to burn in.

    @CopaBleyenhoek I'm sorry i do not have the model of the TV, threw away box. I know what you mean when you say you hate those grainy TH-cam-like textures while watching tv. I think it has to do more on the source of the signal. If your tv signal is not HD to begin with you will have the grainy textures no matter what kind of tv. just make sure you got an HDMI to your source.
    When I play Blu Rays or stream movies on Netflix they look great. can even see the pores and sweat on people's faces!

    Noone mentioned the horrible latency the LCD has which makes it difficult to play video games which require quick response time. I just took my LCD back to the store and picked up a plasma. I am very happy now and owning people on bad company 2 again.

    Plasmas will start to dim whereas lcd will work one moment and when they have reached their life expectancy will just stop all of a sudden. Also, the guy in the video said '60,000 hours life expectancy, so half life will be around 30,000', not true. 60,000 is the half life point, at which most manufacturers agree and cast it as its life expectancy.
