You'll recognize the photo albums in Jacob Intilé's studio. Lots of people have them - the kind with the cardboard pages inside covered by plastic that sticks uncomfortably; over time, everything starts to yellow and decay. They're usually crammed with old family photos or yearbook pics. But in Intilé's world, the same albums are carefully arranged page by page with cutouts of vegetal tendrils; pictures of hands; geometric pieces of constellations, animal bones, birds.

I am 66 and have worked in collage since the late 70s. I like to produce a collage or drawing by hand and then scan it into the computer and make changes to the piece digitally. Art is taking chances. And collage allows you to take chances more easily.
I’m your age, I love doing collage, I have been collecting sources for images for years. I am at a point where I have a bit more time to dedicate to the art and harvest images from this plethora of resource. I have considered trying to augment my income from some created pieces. Since you have been doing this for so long I thought maybe you could answer a question that has been on my mind for quite some time concerning the sale of any of these pieces. Am I stealing from the original artist for my own creation? And even though it has been separated from its original context am I in any potential legal peril should one of my pieces get “famous”? Thanks for any insight that you might share.
I like to make elements from scanned or acquired images and use those to collage by hand.
What online app do you use to edit online? I am just starting to collage so any help is greatly appreciated!

first i wonder why this is on my recommendation. then i heard "i cant paint, i cant draw". im struggling to find ways to do art. i cant paint, i cant draw, but i have everything inside my head that i need to let out. and this video just give me the alternative. maybe i'll start collaging.
You should do it! I'm a photographer but have recently been making collages and it is SO freeing and fun and you can just let your creativity run wild. All you need is some paper, an exacto knife, scissors and some glue and you can have fun for hours! And of course some magazines.
what do you mean with "i cant paint, i cant draw"? everyone can make art, that's what make it's so fun! hope you have started doing collages after watching this video!
This is exactly why I'm looking into collage art. I can't paint I can't draw, I can't write or make music, but I have this massively creative mind and I want to get my thoughts and ideas out but can't express myself. I think collage may help me here. But is it illegal to use other people's photos and art work In my artwork? Like...how does that work?

Ive been wanting to get into it for so long and with this whole lockdown I finally pulled the trigger and ordered an exacto knife and cutting mat, any tips on what adhesives to use? In this video he used a few different kinds.
I've been doing it for 40+ yrs.But did he just call himself an "analog" artist?What is that?Just call yourself an artist.I use my art as therapy, and sometimes I never glue it, I just play with the pieces, create stories, and start over again because it gets too crowded.I feel self concious about showing people my work because its very personal.Need to get over that.lol!

Holy shit I've never resonated with an artist like this in a lonnnnng time. I have tonssss of paper cut imagery all seperated in acrylic drawers and do this exact same thing (Not nearly as amazing as this man) on canvas. I use other mediums in my collages as well, but uggghhh I have tears in my eyes over this man's work! I have permanent claw hand from cutting things out and have cancelled plans to listen to music and cut cool shit from Harpers Bazzaar and Rock & Gem magazines. The piece that totally got me is when he said that he remembers the emotion and where he was at in life with each piece. Ugh my heart. Thanks for reading my essay. 555
Everyone collages every day. Think about getting dressed: Layers - some seen, some unseen. Putting on makeup: Layers. Making a bed (if you are so inclined): Layers. Putting food on a plate: Layers - don't forget the sauce! Putting pillows on the couch, a blanket over a loved one, a group HUG. Hugs to you all! All Collagists!

So three years ago this was posted , this is exactly what l do l love cutting out images from magazines . Some are turned into art others well are in my collection, for me, thank you from Australia
When you discover that collage is you, and there are other “yous” out there! I make altered books and junque journals and use collage in them. Your “hobby” is beautiful.

I love the term "analog collage." How the digital realm distinguishes itself...
I liked how the artist had his elements organized by subject in binders all precut and ready to arrange (I reuse boxes for laser labels or envelopes) . The finished artwork is amazing.
So many collage artists say it is like therapy to work in this way. Myself included. Lovely work Jacob.
So I watched this a couple days ago and I already found and purchased those binder storage sheets you use, because that’s ingenious! Thanks, now maybe my scraps won’t be such a mess. Also your work is beautiful!!

Omg yes! While asking around for magazines from teachers at school, I was given a bunch of old National Geographic magazines from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s, which are great, I find cool fonts and pictures that are grainy and cool, I love it!
Yes! Nat Geos are the BEST for collage :) I use them all the time!

Where have I been ? I have a phobia about tossing out a magazine so I now have at least 200 Magazines to choose from
@@kathleenlouise783 you don't have to throw them away. Check your library mine has a magazine swap, It is a lovely thing.
I love this! I experimented with collage back in the 70's and over the years when I saw something in print that interested me I tore out the page. Now that I'm about to retire I'm thinking of going through all the images and creating something that speaks to me. Thank you for your creativity, it is inspiring.
I now regret throwing all those old magazines away and those 8 empty photograph albums - sigh.
I watch a ton of collage channels; I can’t explain why but I come back and back to this video as it seems to be the most perfect collage I’ve found so far. I wish there was more of you to discover, Mr Intile.
So clever to store your cut outs in albums. I did a little of that in one of my art classes years ago and I always wanted to take what I learned to a higher level. Your video is an encouragement. I appreciate the quality of your work and thanks for sharing.

There's nothing better than photo albums to organize paper cuts, years ago I was lucky to find a pile of them at a thrift shop. I also use transparent files to organize the uncut paper. I never used glue spray I liked the idea. I just finished a book of funny characters. Your collages are stunning.
I did many posters for my bands in the 90’s late night at a Kinkos with glue and scissors and reproductions... love that you have to apply the term analog now😜
I thoroughly enjoyed this and will watch it again. I have been using a sketch book to paste all kinds of stuff in it. This really helps to lower my blood pressure. Art has a way of taking us to places emotionally and physiologically.

I’ve been depressed, and randomly thought of doing collage work with magazines, to let my mind go & not think and express my emotions, feels, vibes without words, just visually, to go with the flow and do spontaneous art, I miss doing digital collage work on polyvore (RIP)💔

Im not the best painter but I have fun with it. But collaging.... thats a whole different ball game. I fell in love. surrealism collage is my passion. I have never been so excited and happy in my life. I hope I become a true artist and turn my hobby into a career!
I also want to add that putting the smaller pics in that binder is such a great idea, Ill keep that noted for myself!

I loved the binders full of pre-cut images, too. That would make it so easy to inspire and create.
