Damn this thing looks like exactly what I need, a simple looking, strong device that can power an SM7B and has a mute switch. I’d just be using it for talking to my friends on discord and game chat along with light streaming for friends and home recordings. Definitely will be looking at this in the future!
Compared to a cheap audio interface it even lacks features like midi or stereo output. Then again, it is marketed towards streamers/gamers who don't want to deal with audio equipment. I mean, you wouldn't use matlab if all you do is arithmetic. You'd use a simple calculator. If elgato put all the money into making it do the one thing it does really well, i'd still consider it a good product. Easy to use and it definitely looks better than the usual audio interface.
@@BladeSaliva I don’t think he said it’s the only one. He just said ELGATO because they never have before. The title is meant to make people click on the video. And it wasn’t a lie either cause they did 🤣
As a wave 3 owner. The software is awesome. The mic is equally as good. Now I'm no professional by any means. I stream a several times a month. I always get comments about how my mic sounds great. Honestly it's all thanks to the vid you put out about making the wave 3 sound like the professional mic. I can't wait to use elgato's eq when it's released.
From what I've seen it can drive the Shure SM7B without a Cloudlifter/mic activator. This is extremely worth it imo. Their mic arms look very nice as well. They really want to dominate the streaming market huh.
Lol, I bought the Wave 3 mic just for the program and for a backup mic. I have the SM7B going though a rodecaster pro, so I won't need this device unfortunately. If I didn't have the rodecaster, I would consider it. But the lack of filters and EQ/Reverb/Noise Reduction effects would make this a hard buy. I think I'll keep my current set up since you can add another profile for your mixer on the Wave Link App if you have the Wave 3 Mic. Then you just mute your Wave 3 Mic and there you go. Just sucks they won't just issue the program as a stand alone. I do love what Elgato is doing! These are all devices I dreamed of years ago. Never thought we would get them this soon.

You can use VST's directly in OBS... But you can also directly apply a VST to a mic all the time... I do this with Clownfish (the voicechanger software) which so happens to be able to load a VST and use it.

Well yes, this is clearly an audio noobs oriented device, no +48v, no ASIO drivers so no VST, has at least 25ms latency, it's just 1in/1out, BUT it's perfect for all those non sound engineer or musician guys! Elgato solved for you some of those things that a random final user doesn't really care or doesn't wanna worry about, I mean the preamp sounds good, it has a limiter-ish and monitoring thingy, it's very easy and intuitive to use plus the software is really cool AF. The only thing I don't really like is the price, this thing is not cheap. I mean the Behringer XR-18 for example costs 100 bucks more for over 9000+ features. Anyways the point is if you don't have much money but you have some skills you can make for example a SM57 sound basically like a SM7B, if you have some money but no skills just buy ready to go products and you are ok, like in this case. 6:53 I solved this issue on my Wave 3 by using a program called Equalizer APO. It allows me to use any VST plugin with the Wave 3 on a SYSTEM-WIDE basis without any additional latency or CPU usage. This way I have the full power of the Wave Link software AND all my EQ, gates, compression, etc in any program that accesses my mic, not just OBS. This workflow means my mic sounds the same whether I'm in a Zoom call, streaming, recording a podcast, or just fragging out in Apex.
Can you explain this process to me like you would a 5yr old? Lol, I have the Wave 3 and gave up trying to stream a while back because I couldn’t figure it out.
@@Berzrk-Z Set your Wave 3 as your system's default input device in the Control Panel. Install Equalizer APO and run it. When it opens the dialog about not being configured, set your Wave 3 as the capture device. Ignore the playback device portion. It'll probably make you restart at that point. Open EAPO again and set up your VST plugins. You can look up some vids on that part since there are a lot of variables with that. Once you set them up, they'll be applied to your Wave 3 system-wide. Basically EAPO takes the signal directly from your mic and processes it before it gets sent to the rest of Windows. From what I can tell it adds NO noticible latency either.
@@The_0ne504 Awesome, thanks so much for this! I remember the other issue I was having was a delay on my voice when monitoring; it drove me nuts and was part of the reason I gave up. I'll work on what you wrote above this weekend. Thanks again!

No, you can't. USB mics can't be connected to this or the GoXLR (USB is a digital signal, while audio is analog). If you mic has a headphone plug (to use as audio monitor) you can use that exit to plug into an audio interface like GoXLR Mini. Elgatl WaveXLR only has XLR input so it is useless in your case.
6:50 I'm not sure if he actually means vsts or just effects since vsts very much aren't built into the software. Also i don't think goxlr has vst support either.
There's zero products on the market that fit that criteria. When they come out (as it's not a matter of if), it's going to be brands like DeckLink, Datapath or AverMedia that will drop the first products, quite sure. If you're serious about that enquiry, those are the brands you should be keeping an eye out for.
Thank goodness you brought up VST. I use a goxlr mini with a wavelink plugged in just because I love the elgato software. But the onboard VST from the goxlr is a must for communication like discord to have the added compression, noise gate and EQ without having to route the OBS monitor to a wavelink input to then send that to discord..
Was shown the webcam video first during my first browse (means I didn't go to my sub feed). Saw this in my sub feed and then in my home feed AFTER watching the webcam one. If this was shown first I would probably have clicked it but... You're right the webcam has an extra pull (I have been particularly focused on poor cameras recently though).
TH-cam recommended the Elgato Webcam one first, then after coming back to TH-cam homepage 2-3 times after finishing other videos, TH-cam recommended this video to me.
I hit this video first, although I’m excited for both this and the facecam! I’m really excited about this, though, since the GoXLR has always been too far out of my price range and may be a bit more than what I need.

@@Berzrk-Z No problem. Let me know if you get it all worked out.
Exactly what I did -- watched the Elgato facecam video, then clicked the post-video link for this one.
Hi Harris and team! This one was the first (even though I don't have an XLR mic 😅) Keep up the great work! It's truly appreciated 🙏
First watched the webcam segment... Just so you know... Thanks by the way... Really enjoy your videos... Greetings from the Netherlands...
TH-cam showed me the face cam video first I didn’t even see this until I actually went into your channel.
The device itself looks very similar to the Evo 4. But as with a lot of Elgato products, it's the software that'll look like it gives it the edge... 👍
it looks like the mini stream deck; I'd definitely buy this.
I did watch the cam video first but just because it was the video of yours that was on my homepage.
came to this one first because this is what i was waiting for from you specifically.
Does it turn a USB mic to USB mic to?
I actually saw the webcam vid first but didn’t watch it yet, just clicked on the channel because I wanted to see if you had anything on the stream deck mk2
I will watch both videos. I love watching the videos it's so relaxing. I watch this one first because it was the newer one and I go down to old on my subscription list
Camera first, then Wave XLR. Was waiting to see what was announced at last nights event before pulling the plug on a Wave 3.
i didnt even see the face cam video, I only knew Elgato released stuff toda cuz of Kruzadars twitter, so I kept refreshing my youtube til you popped up
I actually only got a notification for the camera i had to search on your channel hours late to find this video.
What is the I/O looking like on this mic- can you use this with a usb mic?
No, you can't.
USB mics can't be connected to this or the GoXLR (USB is a digital signal, while audio is analog).
If you mic has a headphone plug (to use as audio monitor) you can use that exit to plug into an audio interface like GoXLR Mini. Elgatl WaveXLR only has XLR input so it is useless in your case.
I clicked this one first, i saw the other video but something about this made me gravitate towards this.
6:50
I'm not sure if he actually means vsts or just effects since vsts very much aren't built into the software.
Also i don't think goxlr has vst support either.
Legitimately skipped this video, watched the Webcam video and then felt the need to come back and watch this one. Touché sir, touché
What about HDMI 2.1 compliant 4k capture card ?
There's zero products on the market that fit that criteria. When they come out (as it's not a matter of if), it's going to be brands like DeckLink, Datapath or AverMedia that will drop the first products, quite sure. If you're serious about that enquiry, those are the brands you should be keeping an eye out for.
With the right adapter, you can even extend your mic choices to 3.5mm and 6.35mm mics
I went to cam video first, since it popped up in my feed first. Switched to this video when it was mentioned.
The webcam actually popped up first on my recommended, but I’m more intrigued about this tbh
I clicked it first because that's the one I got a notification for... Way more interested in this!
TH-cam recommended the Elgato Webcam one first, then after coming back to TH-cam homepage 2-3 times after finishing other videos, TH-cam recommended this video to me.
Two months later, VST support.
I’m getting it now
Clicked the Webcam first EDIT: Great to hear they are working on VSTs.
so why exactly would I need this if I have a good mic and it is not connecting multiple mics?
Clicked Facecam first because I was already shopping for a webcam for my next setup (& already have an interface I'm happy with)
I saw the cam video on my front page as soon as I opened youtube, saw this about an hour later in my sidebar recommended.
I hit this video first, although I’m excited for both this and the facecam!
I’m really excited about this, though, since the GoXLR has always been too far out of my price range and may be a bit more than what I need.
Camera first! Probably gonna buy both that and this today!
Basically shure and wave xlr gonna cop that whenever i get enough to buy both
What a flex with that Elgato DM.
