    It's weird, the impact of a single person can probably never be truly seen until they're gone. It's truly bittersweet. Bitter in the sense that they're gone, sweet in that someone can still bring us happiness long after they're gone. Hopefully we continue to see the impact of people like Michael brooks for years to come.

    I discovered the Majority Report maybe four years ago, and Michael with Sam, Matt and Kelly got me hooked immediately. Then, while watching the show, it felt almost like I'd come home from a long day to a comforting and hilarious conversation. Topical and intelligent, the show has become an inspiration. Michael was a true talent and the lens through which he translated the world was communicated with an infectious and transformative appeal. The man was an American treasure, a folk hero, a smart man who spoke on disparate and innumerable ideals. He was great and he is missed.

      May I ask what "rest in power" means? I see that used a lot but don't really understand it. I thought the point of death (from a spiritual angle at least) was to return to a state of peace, a release from our earthly suffering. What does "power" mean in this context? Sorry if I'm just dumb.

    • @starrgazer9
      @starrgazer9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Gage Acosta Okay. I read that it was originally a saying in Black and queer communities, now it is a more mainstream phrase. I'd argue, theoretically, that a person could rest in peace knowing beforehand that those who remain will honor their legacy and see to it that their vision lives on after they physically depart.

    When I first started watching a few years ago, I would hear Michael Brooks with his impressions and laughing and again with his impressions cutting Seder off at times in the background. You could see Seders look of forced patience and I would think, “Who is that guy?” (While also laughing at all the shenanigans going on) I would think, “Why does Seder put up with this guy?” Then after watching more of the show I realized that Michael was on the same level as Seder. So much knowledge and empathy for human kind. I wish I could’ve known about him for longer but glad I was able to watch him for the time I did. Left is best ❤️

And in addition to that great attitude, he helped his audience take a wide view, learning more about the entire world rather than just their own backyard. And he helped us understand the connections between our own home and wider global affairs, which fits perfectly with his "be kind w people" approach. And also, as we all know, he was so funny and blended that so well w his politics. What a guy. 👍 you're missed, Michael. Take care, buddy.

    I loved his infectious laughter and the fact that he could be absolutely hilarious, but also put on a serious face and give some of the best nuanced breakdowns particularly dealing with foreign policy that I've ever heard. He was great at breaking down the particulars of issues I was completely ill-informed on in a way that I could understand.

      There’s a video where Sam and Michael debated a self proclaimed libertarian who called into the show, the caller claimed that Bernie’s progressive agenda of health care for all, higher wages, etc. was immoral and the Michael broke out his best impression of all time, Satanic Bernie. Had me DYING of laughter, the thumbnail of the video was Bernie and Satan photoshopped in the background

    Michael Brooks came to my house to talk to me about Medicaid expansion in Idaho. Iwas literally in psychosis, yelling about something when he came to my door. He was so nice and calmed me down, explained what Medicaid expansion was and I signed. At the time I was a libertarian but really I was a progressive who no longer trusted the government. Michael Brooks got me to look up leftists on TH-cam and essentially got me out of the alt-right algorithm. Anyways, At some point I made a comment to him about how nothing might ever get done in Idaho because it is such a far right, corrupt, and anti any programs. He did NOT like that and his mood changed and he said something like “If things don’t get done, it’s attitudes like that will be the reason.” Even though the conversation didn’t end well, it changed my political perspective, my perspective on how movements are done, my outlook on things for the positive. I wish he were around today for me to thank him
