      but isnt it normal that clothes look different on different body types? i kind of dont understand the point, what should these skinny people do?, in the end they are (hopefully) just wearing what they think looks beautiful on them, imo u cant just say that its not fashion bc of your type of body

    • @niamhl6964
      @niamhl6964 3 ปีที่แล้ว +491

      @@madleen7648 it's not that skinny people can't wear certain things or whatever, it's commenting on the fact that skinny people can wear the most basic of outfits and be considered fashionable af (the 'model off-duty style' is a perfect example of this) even though it's more their bodies that are beautiful rather than the clothes themselves. It's not a fault of the wearers, imo, it's more an issue of how society as a whole glorifies a certain body type so damn much

    • @guppy8073
      @guppy8073 3 ปีที่แล้ว +181

      @@madleen7648 I don’t think that was the point Luke was making. My interpretation was not that these outfits are unfashionable because the model is skinny, but that the outfit is not fashionable in general, and the only reason it gets hyped up is because it’s on a conventionally attractive person whose beauty distracts from the garment itself. If you remember of the craze around the strawberry dress and the plus size model who wore it first but got backlash for it, it’s a similar idea but reversed- is the garment ugly (like some claimed it was on the plus size model) or do you just find plus size people less beautiful? The problem is not with the people themselves but with the public’s reception of their garments, which is biased based off of conventional beauty. Of course a garment will look different on different body types, but at the level that Luke analyzes you would expect that they could tailor the look to suit the wearer’s shape. Hopefully that was helpful.

    It was kinda funny, when Luke said that the colors don't go together in the IVH blue dress. Idk, maybe I'm wrong, but I immediately thought that it represents water and waves - how in nature the colors go from the deepest blue of the sea to light blue and turquoise and white foam. The dress was also shaped like a wave and the long light hem actually looked like streaming water to me.

    the pattern on Timothee Chalamet's silver tom ford suit is MOST likely because it's made of Silk moire. The way moire is created makes these really interesting water ripple patterns.
    So the suit (imo) is really a celebration of the fabric, and the fact that the tailoring is IMPECCABLE is no small feat on something like silk.

    Thank you for calling Jodie's feathered Gucci gown "fugly" LOL I kept seeing articles mentioning it alongside the Schiaparelli and IVH looks (i.e., "The Return of Haute Couture") and I couldn't stop laughing! I feel like designers arbitrarily throw feathers onto looks to make them look more expensive, but I feel that feathers are overused and usually tacky. However, her second Gucci look was fantastic and she killed it. Tina's color-blocked, hooded, Valentino look was also my favorite. It's so rare to see hooded looks, and this one was DIVINE.

    I can’t stand Bella Hadid’s first look. It IS fashion only bc she’s skinny. As someone who appreciates corsetry, the corset looks cheap, and honestly it looks like an underbust corset that was too long for her. I appreciate trying to go for the present low rise look with the pants, as much as I don’t like low rise, but corsets are really meant to make shape and the waistline of the pants creates a disjointed flow to the form imo

    The words you were looking for in the lung 🫁 dress review are -the designer was honoring the body. Reminding us of how valuable our bodies are. This can also be a commentary on climate change since they could also be interpreted as a coral reef. Then don’t get me started on the idea of capitalism.
    In my opinion that wasn’t a dress it was wearable art.

    Before I watch and thoroughly enjoy yet another one of your videos, I would like to thank you for sharing your knowledge with such clarity and sass.
    I stumbled upon your analysis of the costumes in Cruella and sat mesmerised for the entire video. I may not love fashion in the same way you do but the way you share your expertise (in every video) makes me interested and makes me want to know more about why fashion looks the way it does. My passion is film and I can only hope that I engage people in the same way you have engaged me with your passion.
    As a casual shopper, I would love to hear your advice on how to shop more sustainably and which brands to support. I am not about to buy a vintage Chanel purse, but I would definitely be interested in what lower-cost brands I should be investing in day-to-day (ones available in the UK if possible).
    Thank you for your work!

    5:10 in addition to the COVID-19 allusions with this piece, there also seems to be a direct paralell between this necklace and the Florence and the Machine album "Lungs", whose album cover has a striking image of Florence Welsch wearing a lung necklace (albeit one of a pair that look tissue-and-blood-filled) underneath a sheer green dress.
