One of the great American song writers of all time. Stephen Foster-and all the rest are great- but Hunter's creative magic won't be equalled, if ever. His and Garcia's beauty represent the second half of the 20th century American landscape in a soulful, honest and beautiful manner. Thank you Robert Hunter.
@@staggerlee4979 Yep, totally agree with you. Him and Weir wrote some great tunes. Amazing bunch of artists. I was lucky enough to experience the scene since I was going to school at SF State from the beginning. Real damn lucky.
I love '81 dead shows.Jerry on the far left side. My first 3 shows were in 1981. Alpine valley in August, Champaign and Indianapolis in December. All at a tender 16 yrs old. I'm the same age as the band.
@@matthaisallman5434 81,82,84,87,88 were the years I went to Alpine. More than anywhere except Oakland Coliseum. I also went to one of the 83 Poplar Creek shows. Didn't like that venue & I'm glad they never went back. Alpine was a special place if you ignored the College football linebackers they hired for security. Real as--oles. They got their kicks by messing with deadheads anyway they could.
@@chrisrutherford9216 yeah 82 and evey year ( every show /jgb to) pine knob ( kind nob) osklland the most shoes for me also moved to cail in 90. ( humbolldt) summer tours around the midwest ,nrver liked the E cost , seen some , most summers as far as alpine then back west ......THE WEST IS THE BEST
Okie- gotta say how much I enjoy opening up my computer for your show du jour as my soundtrack while working each morning. Thanks man! RH across the Black Muddy River...

Thank you for the post!!! Top notch, as usual!!!! I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but the time taken to arrange and post these gems is most appreciated! Best channel on TH-cam by a long shot! Thank you!!!
Gee, I totally forgot that I went to this show. This is just awesome. Thank you okie and thanks for the mammaries! Ha ha ha Long live the Grateful Dead, I will love them till the day I die
Weir still learning slide here, he started playing slide around '78. It's awesome when Jerry takes his slide solo right after weirs slide solo during Minglewood. I get goose bumps and the hair on the back of my neck rise up every time I listen to it. There's just no comparison between Jerry's slide work and Bob's slide work. Jerry is The Master, Bob is the student! What a world of difference between the two styles of slide guitar. But when Jerry takes over........
Honestly, i never thought either Jerry or Bob were particularly good at slide. Jerry is great on the pedal steel, but he has on and off nights on the slide. Sometimes he's just not hitting that note just right.
You will be missed R.H . May your song fill the air !!!

We've lost another member of the band. Robert has finally rode back to Fennario.

RIP Robert Hunter! One of the best songwriters ever! He was one of the Dead's muses for many years. Godspeed on your journey, Mr. Hunter.

It always sounded to me like Jerry didn't teach Bob a thing. 😀
You know you're right!
Jerry said this at least once; to paraphrase it : he wasn't very fond of Weir's slide playing but what the hell, do what you want.
PS: Imo, Bob would do himself justice to this day if he just played slide above the 12th fret.
Honestly, i never thought either Jerry or Bob were particularly good at slide. Jerry is great on the pedal steel, but he has on and off nights on the slide. Sometimes he's just not hitting that note just right.
By the waterside I will lay my head....
My favorite Black Peter for Hunter's day. The audience slow clap takes it to another level.
I hadn't heard Hunter passed. 😥😥
Travel lite my friend. 🌹🌹
love the Wheel particularly (moments of bliss)
Blessings to all stay grateful
Only a fue thousand there, great show. Only an hour from my house
This was the day after I was born!
PPS: is there room in the time machine to go back to this one?
How many times did they play Passenger post Keith and Donna? Not too many I presume.
81 was probably the last year. I'd loved to ask Phil why he dropped such a kick ass song.
Minglewood needs a louder organ. 😎 "Couple shots of whiskey, organs round here start sounding good."
At least it's Brent!
Who's working the mixer fellas? How bout a sound check😜
We still love ya and all your work on tour!
only good thing is might as well and it's so covered in digi artifact it Might as Well be New Kids.
