thanks to you !, i bought a 750watt bafang mid drive for $1,200, with all the plumbing and 20ah triangle battery, installed it on my mongoose tyex and i get over 200km with peddle assist 1 and 50kph and i am 155kg rider
Thomas, I just installed a BBS02 on exactly the same bike. It is awesome! I have the same BBS02 kit on a Specialized with no suspension or disc brakes. The Cypress DX is makes a much better ebike.
Nice Bike, I have the large framed 2021 Cypress DX Super Extreme Trekking comfort bike ... But it has been Highly modified. The only original components are the frame, wheels and the brake disks & calipers ... and they're on the list to change too. Shimano Deore XT R8000 Drivetrain components make up 90% of the improvements converting from a stock 2x8 (44-30)x(11-34), to a 3x8 (48-38-28)x(11-32) ... 25.3 inch inches low (sucked on my 1st Bikepacking trip, a fully loaded bike going up a long 3% grade), and 126 gear inches top end giving it a easy sustainable 12-15 mph without much effort on the flats, loaded down with full camp gear ... Now it's going to be 3x10 with a 48-36-26 Deore XT crankset and Deore XT 11-36 cassette (20.9 gear-inch low end ... 19.3 with 24T front chainring). The XT8000 rear derailer supports the 47T chain wrap (and I may push it to 49T) dropping the small chainring to a 24T ... while it should handle it without much problem. The issue comes in the front to maintaIn the 12T max drop limit between rings on the Deore XT FD-T8000-H front derailer, and by pushing the 22T max by 2T (48t - 24t ) instead of (48t - 26t). I have seen the XT derailers handle more and 2 teeth isn't extreme. The rear limits are 11-36T so the XT T8000 will be zero issue. So now, having said all that, will I have room to even consider a E-motor, a Battery, and still have space for all my bikepacking bags? i.imgur.com/qCAjOBJ.jpg?1
Right on man, I will be taking the leap this month… gonna do an information gathering on my bike/pics/measurements etc, then do a consult and load up! Do you have a checklist video or printout for doing this? Hope the move went well!
Apologies if you have explained it before, but does the front chain ring have a freewheel/clutch of some description, so the motor turns the back wheel without turning the cranks.
How do you keep the battery from wobbling when mounted to the water bottle eyelets? I have might really tightened down but because the mount is plastic, it still wobbles quite a bit on bumpy terrain.
I converted my Cypress DX, except I tilted the handle bar stem all of the way up, added a bosco handle bar and a wider seat to peddle upright. It’s very comfortable and I use it for commuting.
I am working on a project for my dad. Do you think it is possible to tie two mid drive BBSHD’s to one throttle controller? I am working on a Rhoades Car and want to put 2 mid drives on it for equal assistance pedaling and for extra help pulling the weight of the whole bike with all 4 people on it. Would love to hear your input.
That's cool I really am enjoying my bbso2b, just sucks it's kinda slow at the start then revs up good to 35mph but we always want more power might need to mod the controller...and a 60v to 72v bat. Maybe a big framed full suspension bike as well.
Hey Johnny You convinced me. I bought an old Fuji mtn bike and a kit and built my own ebike. I've been wanting a bike repair stand for quite a while now. Any decent one will do for my other bikes but do you have any recommendations as to one that will handle the weight of this ebike? (Without the battery, of course).
Awesome videos! Just received my BBSHD 52v - plan is to use for mt biking and amateur radio summits on the air (SOTA). Was initially going to put on my Electra Tigershark, then thought about my 94 GT Zaskar… but also considering my older 2006 sumpjumper expert. I’ve narrowed it down to my zaskar or the sumpjumper - the zaskar I use today for casual mt biking and will hook up the bob trailer for bike camping or to haul radio gear to a summit… draw back is the cantilever brakes (they work, just not as good as Discs) and it is a classic bike… then the stumpjumper it’s in great shape all works well just not sure how well the motor will fit with the pivot area or the weight of the battery…. Decisions, decisions - any suggestions?
For all around best uses - leaning towards the zaskar - I’ll just put some new brake pads on there (love my polished old school Zaskar LE with good ol Judy SL’s)
So I have the same bike but a 2021 with tubes rated to 85psi so I am not sure about your tubes. Would the BBSHD help it go faster so this bike does 40+mph? Also can I ride it without engaging the motor so I can still use it for cardio? Thanks in advance
I just got a 2021 and bbshd, too. I've yet to install it, but want to use it for cardio sometimes, too. The motor will add some resistance, but I know you can tweak the amount of power output for each assist level. It should be possible to set assist level 1 to only output just enough power to overcome the resistance of the motor, leaving you to do the work of actually moving.
Hey Johnny, If my brakes broke because a piston went out, would you recommend Ebike brakes from someone like Tektron or should i just get a normal set and use the brake sensors? Also, what is a safe enough brake for something as powerful as the bbshd? I have 180mm rotors now. That and dual pistons fine?
Mr. Nerdout, I hope your move went well! I noticed on the bottom of that display, it shows the name of the battery builder you mentioned; EM3 ev. Recently, I installed the 2nd motor and battery kit I purchased from you on exactly the same bike. It's the same BBS02 850C kit but with a "Unit Pack Power" 52v 13AH battery. But my 850C shows the word "INTELLIGENT" on the bottom of the readout. Does the controller/readout actually know who the battery pack assembler is? Does this mean my battery was assembled by a company named Intelligent? The battery model is S039-A.
Question for anyone willing to help… I just got a cargo bike and one of the batteries charge level indicator lights, the first one on the left, stays red even after charging. Is this normal? It supposedly has Panasonic cells inside. It has 4 lights and 1 of the 4 stays red. The one on the left lowest on the ramp picture

What you said makes no sense at all 🤣😂 You rather have fake cells put together by a professional. Compared to original cells put together by non-professional. I'm a amateur I use everything what professionals use if not better. Putting battery packs together is childsplay you should know that. You must have built battery packs before. You are a E-bike Builder. The difference is I've seen professional put together battery packs. With nickel steel strips what are rusting not 100% nickel and using 14 AWG wire for discharge on 52v 17ah battery If you build your own battery parks you know exactly. What parts you using like quality parts. Nickel & copper strips 10 AWG wire & 100% original cells. My last battery pack was only about 4 days ago. Exactly the same battery box in your video 52v 14s 5p. I noticed your is missing the switch what turned battery on & off. The BMS I used has working switch turn power on & off no problems. That was only a cheap BMS board. I wonder what BMS the battery builder put in your battery pack. Considering doesn't even have a switch.
6:15 Both. Thanks for all you do.

Wow! The range on that thing is awesome
$1200 - are you serious? That seems like a lot unless it's your only form of transportation.
I have the same bike so really enjoyed the information on the conversion.
Yes!!! This is the exact same bike as mine! I'm paying close attention to this video!

Just like my set up. But my frame is Fuji. Working good summer and winter here in Norway.
Just finding your channel after researching the last couple days on how to converter my Schwiin, may have to take you up on that consultation!
JohnnyNerdout! Have you done a Tongsheng TSDZ2 conversion yet? I'm very interested in the torque sensing assist vs only cadence based assist.

Yes it does
Best comfort bike ❤

Check out the Ebike Conversion Kit for Battery Adapter Frame Mount, Aluminum Black on Amazon. About $21. It solved the problem on my conversion.
Great videos man, keep up the excellent work!

Do you remember your dropout specs? I'm looking to upgrade mine and not too keen on shipping it down just to measure... :)

Really depends on how hard you ride. Aggressive single track- get dual/quad piston Tektro brakes. For regular commuting, regular brakes are just fine.
What’s the best way to reach out to you for a consult
Johnny, does the handle bar and riser fit on my Trek 4300 I would like a little more height and swept back can you help

No, that’s just the display. Some places pay to have their names there. It has nothing to do with the battery.
Bro side note your microphone audio sounds great
Temperature drop kills batteries.😅 How I know?
Hi i have a problem with my gears skipping on an 8th gear bike with a bbs02 does someone have a fix for this?
Get your shifting adjusted 👍 a bike shop can do it for about $30

That’s normal. Not sure why they designed it that way but they did.
