Then almost to the bottom there lay a shark, my ass came right back up that line and got in the boat , and I have not dived since. Later found out it was a nurse shark. At the time I couldn’t care less what kind it was, as long as it had the name shark attached to it I don’t want to be anywhere near one.

@@dominus6224 It's a nurse shark. It can't "tear into pieces" anything because its teeth are flat for crunching shells and crabs. It can't puncture the skin, nor will it try to because they're extremely docile. You have to be really messing with it for it to bite you. Educate yourself
We tied up in Diego Garcia back in 1983 for a short visit. Took the captains gig out for a spin as it just had some engine work done on it. We come back and tie up near the ship's stern. As we are starting to think about a quick dip, someone noticed movement under the pier. As we turned to look, a 14 foot hammerhead cruised out from the pier and passed under the gig and out into the bay. Found out from some local Seabees his name was Hector and they often fed him scraps from the kitchens. They didn't recommend swimming in the bay.
Looks like a blast. But nurse sharks don’t bother ya. I remember we swam around them I even touched one he came up to me. I was actually looking at a beautiful green colored eel and then I turned my head and it was right there. So I touched it and he swam away. Very neat tho. That was in Grand Cayman.

My god that was incredibly close. You are so lucky. The nurse sharks are known for their extremely aggressive behaviour and are understood to lay dormant to trick unsuspecting prey. You were there at the worst possible time. Thank god you got out of that situation alive.
