Thank you -- you saved my ears!!! I couldn't figure out how to remove the cap from my chirping smoke alarm -- it was giving me a headache. There was no manufacturer's name on the alarm that would enable me to look up the instructions online. I had to keep scrolling through the youtube videos til I saw an alarm that had the same little tabs as mine. I'd been trying to push them with my thumbs but they wouldn't budge. Used the screwdriver and it popped right out. Weird thing was, getting the battery out was tough too. I managed it in the end, but am annoyed that they make these things so difficult to work with. Really appreciate your video!!!
Thank you sir, tried to twist the thing off like the other videos but thought they’d glued it on! Thanks to your video I released the tab and slipped them off. Thank you good Sir ❤🫡
These must be the cheapest nastiest smoke alarms...A nightmare to change the battery😢 even the leaflet provided didn't explain..thank you for the video
Great video, you're a lifesaver. I found there's no need to put the screwdriver behind the clip (As shown at 0:15), simply putting the blade of the screwdriver into that slot (As per 0:12) and pulling slightly worked perfectly for me. Thanks for the video anyway, I had a smoke detector emergency last night and had to take the cover off one of these things.... Previous owner of my home threw away all the instructions for the detectors which didn't help, thank goodness for TH-cam!! 🙂
I know it's a lonv shot butcould someone please tell me the model of this smoke alarm? I need to buy new one as the old one stopped working, and I'm not good enough to change the base, so probably will just change the alarm. Thanks
Not sure if you still need this help or not but I can tell you that this particular model is no longer made. Mine started playing up this morning. I found a UK forum that showed a picture of the exact same one and said this Deta model is pretty old and no longer made. I'm still researching myself to see if I can new models that will fit the existing baseplate.
Thank you for the video 👌🏾. For some bizarre reason a set of wires is still attached to the inside of the cover, the battery compartment is blocked by this so I cannot remove the cover completely & I can't access the battery compartment either 🤷🏾♀️. Always some unpleasant surprise from the developer. At least I can undo it now, thanks to your brilliant video. Thank you!
Thank you. The fact that this alarm is designed so unintuitively that it needs someone to make a video explaining how to remove the Godforsaken cover, is a bit of a damning indictment of the manufacturer.
Hiya we have this alarm and we changed the battery because of the bleeping but after the battery was changed the bleeping still continues. Do you know why this could be as they’re still in date
Hi Lily, sorry I haven't had that problem so far. Definitely search on the web to see how others resolved a similar issue. And otherwise, give the manufacturer a call or visit their website for guidance. Take care and good luck.
Why do poorly designed things become wildly popular amongst humans? Are most humans dumb by design? They could've designed an easy to pull out battery tray without all these steps...really would've made it simpler. I just came back from a viral video about black people not changing batteries and now I get why. I'm not from America and smoke detectors are not a thing in our country.
THANK YOU, it helps when nobody but just me tries to do things to stop the beeping every minute.
This video is still helping people 5 years later mate. Thanks heaps
Alarm for low battery decided to go off at 2 A.M. The online instructions didn't work, the instructions in this video did. Thanks for making this.

You are a life saver!
I never thought the head could be removed without seeing this video, I thought it would break.

thanks so much I couldn't workout how to open the cover at all! Brilliant
Great. I had a beeping during the night, the only one instruction which really helped me! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this very lucid video. I could not sleep the entire night through. This video helped.
Great video. We have 2x these and had no idea how to replace the battery. Shame the battery window isn't on the other side!
Thank you for this, so so useful because I didn’t have a clue 😅
This is great!!! Thanks a lot. Can't understand why the battery always decides to die in the middle of the night!!!!
I think it’s something to do with the temperature dropping at night. Annoying though as I’m awake now trying to sort it with a baby 😂
Thank you so much. I would have been up all night trying to take the cover off!!
You're welcome!!

Why the heck do this alarm always go off at 2am. 😮
when you took the alarm off the ceiling that tripped it
Why is this so difficult
Still don't know how change the battery
Many thanks. (What a silly design.)
Why didn’t they make it easier to open?
Thankful of TH-cam and you. What a terrible design.
Thank You! What a terrible design, nearly ripped the stupid thing off the ceiling to stop the confounded beeping!

Thanks, what a rubbish design this is.
What a crap design - I feel like they could have put a little note or something! Not at all obvious how to open it. Thanks!
Thanks for this video help alot
Thank you
