To be honnest, i don"t know if it's a sign, but i'm working on a mix 3D/reality 360° image at work since ... today ! I was a bit nervous because i didn't know how to work around this kind of situation. And .... voilà ! Photoshop CC 2018 came today (i already checked yesterday) and your video is up today as well ! Thank you so much !
Hey, great tutorial! BUT is it possible a full quality retouching on a merged layer inside 3D spherical panorama? * At minute 4:00 of your tutorial you talk about making retouching directly in 3D spherical panorama view, (which is supposed to be the best way to do it since you just see a portion of the sphere, almost as a 2D image... so you don't get distorted-curved lines, making retouching much easier than doing it in 2D flat spherical map, especially for architecture and straight lines in general). The problem is that I've noticed a noticeable deterioration of my 3D spherical panorama detail, compared to original/2D spherical map image, (it is pretty pixelated if you zoom in, reaching the equivalent of 100% 2D view both with zoom tool or 3D "CV" mm tool inside properties panel). The problem gets worse in Ps ver. 20.0.4 than in Ps 19.1.8, but even in Ps 19.1.8 the detail is not the same as the original), is it the same for you? (FYI: I'm running Ps on MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 with GPU NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB, but had the same problem also with last MacOS Mojave version). So have I to think that direct retouching inside 3D spherical panorama at full quality is still not possible? Or is it simply due to my GPU or GPU settings (OpenCL is flagged, and memory settings are at maximum)? Does anyone else notice this big difference in terms of quality between 2D spherical map at 100% view and the same detail inside 3D spherical panorama view? * I talked to Ps support twice and checked with them all GPU settings, but they couldn't give me any solution so far, they just told me that it could be related to the fact pixels are stretched in creating a 3D spherical panorama from a 2D image...but it would mean that if you want your retouching to merge perfectly with the rest of the image (i.e. at full quality) they need to be made just inside 2D spherical map, and not in 3D spherical panorama, as you showed in this tutorial. Beyond that, I can look at the same file at 360° at full quality on a web browser, so actually there should not be any "stretching problem" also in Ps, I guess. If you want to check this issue on your system, please try inserting a text layer over the 3D spherical panorama layer and then merging them, then do the same inside the spherical map...you should notice the difference immediately. Thanks
Many thanks for this video! You very helped me. It different (in interface) how I had doing my 360-degrees paintings in Photoshop CC 2015 with old spherical panorama tool.
Please HELP... When I opened my 360° Pano, I can't rotate in it like you do. I grab with left mouse, move a bit (but nothing happens on the screen) then I release the mousebutton, and the new view position is displayed. This is anoying! Would like to move around in the picture like you do - but it does not work
Great tutorial, thanks. Do you think its possible to make global corrections to whole 360 without getting seems so there wouldnt be need of retouching it?
Hi Lubos, If I may answer, that is possible in the flat image layer, you can make it a smart object, apply effects and camera raw to it, then add a new layer, ensure that the blank layer is selected and save it. The effects will show up (in a non-destructive way) in the 3d layer.
Great video. I do 360° HD Panorama's with my DJI Phantom 4 Pro. I would like to see if you could cover the file size limitations of FaceBook and saving a PS file at a size that allows posting. I just decided to get Photoshop CC 2018 and this software is like wow. Thanks again for making a very educational video.
Great video thanks for the tutorial. I'm wondering how to rotate the camera say 180 degrees but not create a video file but a jpeg or a tif file output.
Hello, JR, great tutorial. Just 2 questions. Question 1: In the spherical map layer, can we not duplicate the 360 image and add effects (camera raw, healing brush tool, etc) to the copies? Does it HAVE to be a new layer every time and edits be done on the 3d image? Also, instead of adding (say, for example) a text to the 3d layer & then merging down, can we not add the text in the spherical map so that it remains editable, will that not work as a separate layer? Question 2: have you made an updated version of this video (with new features since I'm sure there must be additions since last year.) I have not found any videos post oct 2017 so please help. Much appreciated...
I appreciate your tutorial. I was looking forward to get a better answer to the seam-line caused by post-processing the image, not the healing brush or other kind of brush, it must be done by default, by software. In video, the Mettle Skybox plugins are doing this with sharpening so that you won`t get a visible seamline at edges of the equirectangular photo when viewed in 360.
Amazing Tutorial! I am trying to change/edit my floor in a 360 Panorama. It is too wide and one scene cannot cover everything and I cannot use selection methods to select the floor and change the pattern. Also when I apply a pattern in 2d mode, it does not work properly in 3d and my floor becomes circular. Any idea how to fix it?
In my photoshop cc (2017.1.1-versie) I do have the option "3D", but I don't have the option "Spherical Panorama".... and also don't have the option "Import Panorama". In my scroll-down menu "3D" there are only 4 options instead of 5. Is there something I can do?
Thanks for the tutorial, lots of good tips. The animated .gif has me stumped though as it pans the other way around to the one chosen if you pass a certain distance from the start, maybe more than 180°, is there a way around this ? Thanks !
Excellent video, that feature is amazing! But I have one question. I want to add some lines to my pano in the "2D" spherical map (i.e. not in spherical mode, in "flat" mode). But when I add my liens on a new layer in "flat" mode, and I switch back to the spherical mode, my line isn't there. It doesn't seem to be copying the layer in the "flat" mode into the spherical mode. The only way I can get this to work is if I merge the layers in the "flat" mode...but I don't want to have to merge layers in case I want to adjust it. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hola Jesús, i have 80 photos to do a 360 photo but i don´t know how i drad the photos to do that you do in this video? i don´t know if you use photomerge in photoshop or you have other technique to drag the photos, thanks bro.
Just curious that after editing 360 by your guide will affect the initial point after viewing in 360 player? Because after follow your guide, the 360 photo is tilted. Any suggestion
Ctrl+E does not merge down on my photoshop. I have to select more then one and that just merges and rasterizes (nolonger 3D layer). What am I doing wrong?
I actually have some terrible bugs. especially when trying to merge down the layer containing a logo. There are some mirrored bugs and then if I try to rotate the 360 Iose everything.
Is there a way to fix the horizontal? I have a 360 panorama I'm able to edit as you did in the video, but I need to rotate it slightly, as it's slightly tilted. Is there a way to do this?
yeah man that`s great but for some reason that Spherical Panorama > Import Panorama isn`t even habilitated when I 1st open it, is there a secret plug-in I gotta unlock or smthn
That is a good question. I have not tried it, but I would assume that it is the same way as a regular photo. When you open the flat version of the image, you can distort it or adjust it as any other image. Do the straightening there.
Hi, good day. Do you know how to make the 360 picture in panorama move naturally, instead of frame by frame. Mine was working fine the 1st time I used it, now its doing it frame by frame when panning the camera around. And when I edit and save it seems to just edit the frame I've been on. Thanks for the help. Hopefully someone can help even though this is an old video. Im using PS 2022 btw.
Really what I wanted was to rotate a 3D generated spherical equirectangular and save it equirectangular but I can only export a piece of the big picture
I've got a million questions: 1) Is it possible to change the nadir of the sphere in order to fix a crooked horizon when shooting handheld? 2) Why does the exported equirectangular image look fine in any 360 photo viewer supplied with cameras but is crooked when posted on Facebook? It seems that the Photoshop camera projection needs to returned to the original position in order for the exported image to work correctly in Facebook. 3) How to export the current "flat" camera view in 1:1 pixels? 4) Why does Photoshop create a history item "Set 3D Camera Position" every time you move the camera? 5) How to deal with the horrendous memory leaks when working on 360 photos? Photoshop eats up 2-3GB of ram when working with a 12MB photo after a couple of camera rotations. 6) How to exit the 3D mode while keeping the changes but not exporting the image? 7) The camera movement toolbar isn't visible in the lower left hand corner for me when using any tool other than the Move Tool. What am I doing wrong? 8) Is the viewport truly displaying everything that could be visible with the current FOV? 9) What is the "natural" FOV of the human eye to check for distortions? 10) What's the point of the horizontal FOV when it's limited to 179°? Vertical FOV has a much wider range. (The same goes for the MM FOV where 1mm isn't wide enough of an angle and 13mm is already too narrow.) 11) Photoshop still doesn't have a natural way to produce tiny planet images by simply moving the camera to look at the nadir and then adjusting the FOV, does it? The conversion to polar coordinates doesn't produce as smooth of an image. I know the Flexify plugin but I find it extremely cumbersome to work with. There are too many options that I have no use for.
I run into another problem: When I color correct my RAW photo's in Photoshop or Lightroom after the export always a ugliness line into my photo's. I looks like photoshop and Lightroom color raw effects doesn't work that good for 360 photo's. Someone over here that have other options for me to color grade my photo's?
😎 Cool they added this feature to Ps and 1000 thanks 👍 for the tutorial containing so much information. Q: Is this somehow also possible as cylindrical instead of spherical panorama? Target is: upload to Facebook and it should be a zoom and pan image in Facebook instead of shrinked down to 2048 x something image. Without the Ricoh Theta. Images taken bei D850 and stitched by CameraRaw. 😜
Hi, I exported a 360 panorama I took from Google Nexus camera after editing in PS. I tried uploading it in Facebook but it doesn't work and I also transferred the new image back to my phone and it doesn't work there either. Any help.
The real question is how can I make it stop lagging so badly , I know I can work on it lag free but I plan on painting something and constantly switching back and forth just to check mere strokes of color is grossly unpractical , I have a 1060 so I know it has to work I just can't see how
lol, everyone on yt upload videos how to edit 360 pano, but no even one no upload video how to create 360 pano in photoshop from ready photos what you capture.
FINALLY!!!Looking all over the web for this.2 years old and only now I found it lol. Thank you!
Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much for this!
Thank you a lot, you saved me omg, with the explanation of the error message for non-destructive worflow !!
So useful. Thanks

Great video! Thank you for the help!
Thank you!
Really great tutorial ! THUMBS UP !
Nice. Thanks. The PS workflow for these 360 panos is a little hard to grasp at first. This was very helpful.
It is! It's a bit confusing at first.
To be honnest, i don"t know if it's a sign, but i'm working on a mix 3D/reality 360° image at work since ... today ! I was a bit nervous because i didn't know how to work around this kind of situation.

Fantastic Tutorial. Helps a lot!! Greetings from Brazil.
I'm going to save this for some time later as I still use an integrated graphics.

Thanks for your very indepth-tutorial. Finally PS has 360° editing! :)
You're welcome, vr easy!
Great overview! Thanks for the tips!
Incredibly useful tutorial for this incredibly useful (if rather tricky) feature! Thanks very much
great tutorial as always
Thank you, Muhammed!
Great video. I enjoyed your thorough explanation of the layers and how they work with the 360 file. Very informative.
Awesome! Incredibly useful video, thanks a lot!

How can I change the 3D Layer back to the original format when Im done with my retouching?
Can i ask a question. Can i correct the horizon of a 360 photo in photoshop?
Ctrl+E does not merge down on my photoshop. I have to select more then one and that just merges and rasterizes (nolonger 3D layer). What am I doing wrong?
I have no idea why... but staring over fixed it... I hate it when I don't know why things as working as intended. A well...
If you resize before export, that's a destructive edit.
How to add 3d virtual furniture in 360 image? Can you please provide tutorials on the same?

Great vid! However, stil, PS can't use 16 bit file for Panorama in correct way! ;(
Is there a way to straighten the horizon in spherical images?
I also want to know how to do this in Photoshop. It is easy with 360 videos in Premiere, but I can't figure it out with stills in Photoshop.
That is a good question. I have not tried it, but I would assume that it is the same way as a regular photo.
When you open the flat version of the image, you can distort it or adjust it as any other image. Do the straightening there.

I will 👍

Hi, I exported a 360 panorama I took from Google Nexus camera after editing in PS. I tried uploading it in Facebook but it doesn't work and I also transferred the new image back to my phone and it doesn't work there either. Any help.
i don't have a 3d option on my photoshop :(
i dont have spherical option in photoshop 2018
Why is my PS completely different? There is no action tab anymore
I can't lose the spherical map :(

Idgi... My Photoshop CC doesn't have the Spherical Panorama option :(
Are you on CC 2018? And does your computer meet the minimum requirements?
Try to switch language settings to english(international) in Adobe CC
I follow these instructions to a T, and it just exports as a regular jpg file. No 360 whatsoever.
lol, everyone on yt upload videos how to edit 360 pano, but no even one no upload video how to create 360 pano in photoshop from ready photos what you capture.
I translated this TH-cam into Korean. Please accept my translation.
Thank so much !
I dont see spherical map view, I cant toggle from spherical view to map view, can anyone help?
thank you so much!!
