I just took a closer look at a Phalaenopsis that I suspected was actually two plants, turns out there’s a third one that has started growing. I didn’t want to disturb the plant to much, so I can’t see where exactly they are all joined. They are not on top of each other. They look like separate plants. It’s a young plant that was recently repotted after suffering a mealy bug outbreak. I’m kinda excited now!

As much as it’s a hassle, the test kits used for aquarium water - not the strips but the ones with a small water sample in a glass vial or test tube and drops to do the test - are pretty reliably accurate. I know the test strips are less than accurate and only get more and more unreliable with age so I would steer clear of those but if you are looking for a different style of tester, the ones with the test tubes are pretty good.

Thanks for tackling my question, I apologize because I'm sure you've addressed the issue of mold in past videos but still thank you for taking the time :) The orchid is currently out of any media, semi-water culture and I'll be trying to clear away as much dead tissue as I can, gently scrubbing with hydrogen peroxide the lower stem area, but in sessions, take it out, scrub a bit, put it back.

I had the same problem and the solution for me was moving the orchid into a pot 2x up the size of the current one and put a whick in. Problem solved. :)

I found that pH tapes are very accurate and much easier than a pH meter. They come in rolls which last many months for me, and are very cheap. Available on Amazon.

Try to find Phalaenopsis Chia E. Berry. It's a mini Phalaenopsis, arlequin type.
White with lots of purple dots, a dotted margin, purple lip. Looks amasing.
The spike branches on mature plants. At home it is in bloom for 10 to 12 months every year, in a West-facing window.
The new spike starts before the flowers on the previous one die and new flowers can open as the old spike still has flowers.

Wow 100k subscribers! You totally deserve it, such an amazing channel! I have a question: can you stake a species or summer growing phalaenopsis? Maybe with a mini stake? Or does it have to grow naturally? Thanks, Kevin.

    Hey Danny!!
First and foremost, great video! thanks for all the helpful info, as always! If I may trouble you for a quick bit of advice that I am hoping you can address on a future Q&A, it would be most appreciated!
I am somewhat new to the hobby and have acquired 10 orchids to start my adventure with this year. So far, everything is going really well except for one ecuegenera miniature and one starter oncidium I got from a different vendor. Anyhow, the oncidium hybrid is a shelob tolken and it came with poor roots. I repotted it in a slotted 4" pot with a mix of fine bark, perlite and a little chopped up shagnum moss (twice already in only 2 months) and have had a continued white fuzzy mold/fungus issue with this plant around the roots and base since about week 2. I have tried peroxide, repotting, and a diluted alcohol mixture but nothing has worked so far. Now my closest Phal is starting to show signs of the same white fungus/mold. PLEASE HELP!! What should I do about this? I do not want it to spread to the other 8 plants and so far my attempts have failed!
Thanks for your time, I sincerely appreciate any advice you can lend on this white fungus matter!!

Hi Danny! Thank you for your videos!
A question for one of your Q&A videos - the leaves on my phalenopsis are growing in a wavey way (not zig zag or wrinkley/leathery) and upwards. I just repotted it after having it for over two years and the root system is very healthy. I use baby bio fertiliser (5.3/2.2/0.85). I soak the pot overnight, typically once a week with 5 drops of the fertiliser and drain well in the morning. I occasionally mist the leaves, too. The new medium is now just bark (orchid focus), so I will keep my eye if the orchid will need more water. I wanted your advice on the cause of this - could it be just watering or also some microelements the plant needs? It’s looking very healthy overall and producing flowers regularly, apart from the strange shaped leaves that worryme slightly. I’m happy to send you photos.
    Thank you!

Hi Danny, Can you please make a video of what to expect when repotting an orchid in a new environment such as semi hydro? I'm seeing my orchids are not having a good transition. all my phal roots are dead and their leaves are dried and wrinkled. thanks!

Hi, Danny!!! How is your Paraphalaenopsis?? I am absolutely addicted to this species and I got a young labukensis. It was in a platic pot but I carefully mounted the plant with some substract and sphagnum keeping the roots protected and only some aerial roots exposed. It seems to like the way it is, now pendent (also avoing crown damage). Are you having success with yours?? Mine gets lots of light, even some morning sun and it is placed very close to the humidifier, keeping it in a 65% moist zone ... Tips?? Any winter care? Thanks in advance. Alex (Norwayyyyy brrrr)

Hi Danny. I have a dendrobium nobile in semi hydro. It has 2 old canes and 4 new. The 2 of the new canes are not finished growing yet but the temperatures are already dropping to 15c at night here. Should I stop fertilizing and inroduce winter rest or wsit for the 2 canes to develop before. Last year all I had from this guy was keikis so I really want to get it right this time.

Hi there I was wondering if coloring of an orchid while it is in bloom can effect the blooms and the plants life cause I just received this orchid that my neighbor said was a beautiful blue but I found out it was just some type of coloring that effected the whole plant there is blue in the leaves flower and flower spike do you have any tips of getting rid of the blue or curing the plant to go back to it’s a original color.

Hi again 🙃 ... thank you for this video... I was hoping to find out if you treated the wounds of the leaves of orchids that got damaged by hail? I don’t mean to be a pain in repeating this question, but there is always talk of using cinnamon to dry out cuts etc faster because pathogens enter etc... so that is why I’m interested to know about treating these natural damage wounds. If you find a moment ... thank you ☺️

Fungi are very very hardy. I did it in the microwave a few minutes on the lowest setting and just a little bit at the time but I haven't had any trouble with moss in that regard in fact I use wild sphagnum that I collect myself and I stopped sterilizing because sphagnum is anti-septic from itself (it has been used for thousands of years to stop bleeding and clean wounds) and if I'm correct rot is caused by bacteria not by a fungus. But then again I don't pot in sphagnum I only use it for mounts
