I’ve absolutely loved this song from the first time I heard it. I was 14 and am now 61. Nineteen hundred and eighty five still has the same effect on me. A work of art from McCartney.
One of my favs of Paul’s post Beatle music. Great jive to it and the vocals are just so cool. Don’t forget that cool bass popping at each start of verse!!! Great music!!!!
The photos near the end showing Paul wearing a cowboy hat, riding horses and sitting on a front porch were taken at "Juniors Farm" just down the road from where I live here in Lebanon Tennessee (right outside of Nashville)when he stayed there in the summer of 1974
Next to BAND ON THE RUN this is my second favorite on this album. Wings was big time in the late 1970s. Their WINGS OVER AMERICA live album is a must have. Poor Linda (Paul's wife). She left us far too soon. RIP.
1985 ... reference to Orwell's 1984 --- His book about a distopian future was symbolic of The End of Free Society , Predicting 1984 would signal the END if Freedom. Hence ... "No One Every Left Alive , in Nineteen Hundred & Eighty Five" 👀😗
Jarvis, I think you're absolutely right-that was a clarinette solo. . .that's so Paul, just like on the Beatles song "Penny Lane" when he brought the classically trained Dave Mason to play a piccolo trumpet solo. Brilliant stuff! This guy's one of the greatest of all of the songwriters, still a force at 81 years old!
Thank you for showing this song. I remember when this song, and the album, came out. I was still in high school. The whole album is a classic. Hope you enjoyed it too.
The Band on the Run album was such a massive hit at the time, we all couldn't wait for the tour to come; it came. The closest venue for me at the time was Seattle, but I couldn't get a ride. It wasn't until 2012 that I saw Paul in Vancouver; 3 1/2 hours of solid music. But I still wish I could've saw him during his heyday.
this is the B side of the 1973 "band on the run" 45 rpm single... great stuff... "band on the run" got played on the radio constantly for years...nice find jmboy, tons of memories on this one
Sir Paul plays ALOT of different instruments. I watched a documentary years ago, and it showed he had an extra large music room! 😂 Videographer couldn't even get HALF the room in his shot! Hahaha! So talented. Thank you for this one.
One of my many FAVS from Paul. He sure knows how to make a record rock. Please do the back seat of my car, let me roll it, maybe I'm amazed, and My Love
still got the original lp with poster inside, only ever played once recorded onto a tape cassette, so in mint condition, all the songs on it are just amazing, well worth a listen to.
Clever how they cut to him at Live Aid, 1985. A sobering thought is that 1985 seems such a long time ago, but I remember playing this record to death when it came out in '73. Btw always loved the album cover, great assortment of people.
This is the video for the Rockestra Theme they played 1985 over. You might like Rockestra. You can hear what's actually being played in this video. Love 1985 btw
Every solo song by a former Beatles member is still a Beatles song to me --- when I listen to them, as far as I'm concerned, they never broke up. If a song like *_Yesterday_* where only Paul participated can be called a Beatle song then why can't this one. Same thing applies to John Lennon's song *_Imagine_* which is every bit a Beatle's song as *_Julia_* from the White album on which only John participated. All for one and one for all. Beatle's Forever!
The ENTIRE "BAND ON THE RUN" album is JUST Paul and Linda McCartney and Denny Laine. Their drummer and other guitarist at the time, refused to go to Lagos, Nigeria they day before they were to leave, to record the album. TOO late to find replacements, so Paul, Linda and Denny went any way and did it themselves. That is PAUL doing ALL the drumming on the album and this song. Plus he did most of the bass lines, unless he was playing something else. Denny could also play bass, besides lead guitar, and could also play piano. Paul has FINALLY performed this at his more recent concert tours, which ALWAYS gets a HUGE reaction out of the crowd....LOVE the WINGS' songs he will do in concert.
The video is mis-leading. Zep-man John Bonham is not playing drums. Paul plays the drums. He and Denny Laine are the only ones on guitar. The video is a mishmash of other sessions. Other than the orchestra and horns, Paul, Denny and Linda are the only ones playing on the song. This is the last song on the Band on the Run album, hence the call-back. It was also the b-side to the Band on the Run single, so it works for that too.
@@patticrichton1135 Right. They recorded So Glad to See You too. The finished tracks ended up on Back to the Egg. The second part was from One Hand Clapping. Wings performed Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five, it's just that this isn't that version.
I absolutley love this song, but I had to look away from the video that jmboy was watching, because it got so many things wrong. The lyrics in the captions are a mess. There are better videos of the song on youtube.
@@jameskelly8586 The video could had been edited better. I like the live action Paul, Linda and Denny. Take out everything that tries to make it look like it's the session for the official version. At least take out that captioning for the band member not on the song.
Band On The Run was Wings 3rd album. After the Beatles split up Paul McCartney did two solo albums and then formed Wings. He didn't really have much success in terms of top hits for those 4 albums. He planned an exotic place to record at for his 3rd Wings album and just before going to Lagos, Nigeria for it his drummer and guitarist left the group leaving only himself, his wife and Denny Laine his other guitarist. They went and recorded most of the album there. "With no time to recruit replacements, McCartney went into the studio with just his wife Linda and Denny Laine. McCartney therefore played bass, drums, percussion and most of the lead guitar parts" During the recording he was robbed at knife point and lost demo tapes and song lyrics so he had to start over from scratch. And yet out of all that came the masterpiece which is Band On The Run. Pure genius.
Wonder what song they were actually playing in the video footage. This is a great closer to a great album. hence the reprise of Band On The Run at the end.
Lol, whoever did those subtitles doesn't speak English as their native language Those were some crazy and weird interpretations of the lyrics in places.
I’ve absolutely loved this song from the first time I heard it. I was 14 and am now 61. Nineteen hundred and eighty five still has the same effect on me. A work of art from McCartney.
One of my favorite piano riffs of all time. And I love Paul’s vocals on this. One of his best.

Omg what a great song. So glad you found this gem. McCartney tears it up vocally! ❤
Sir Paul McCartney.... nuf said.

sir paul at his best! you must experience the whole album as one experience

This is the Band on the Run album closer, which explains the finishing crescendo and BOTR song reprise. Always enjoy this one...:)
It was also the B side to the BOTR single, which is how I first discovered and fell in love with it.
YES!!!! Such a great deep cut. One of my favorite solo songs from Paul.
When the piano boogie starts, and then the drums and shakers come in, you know the track will be 🔥
I always like "Studio" videos that show how the Magic Is Made.
this is the B side of the 1973 "band on the run" 45 rpm single... great stuff... "band on the run" got played on the radio constantly for years...nice find jmboy, tons of memories on this one
What a great deep cut! ❤
A great nugget from Band on the Run. "Mrs. Vanderbilt" is another less known song that is fire from that album.
This is from literally the first album I ever bought, fifty years ago (almost to the day). Great album, the eponymous title track is outstanding.
Graduated in 1975 and we heard this song from the Band on the Run album…..it felt like it would be years away……and here we are nearly 50 years later
I love all the layers in song, Paul McCartney is aGOAT!

And Soily! 😊
Greatest Wings song ever
You can always count on Sir Paul to keep his music fresh and interesting, this song goes to so many places.
I totally forgot about this one. Thanks for the reminder.❤
Pure musical ART!!
Paul, the master.
Not
This whole album is great. Thank you for reacting to Wings. ✌️🖖

Great song and review!
Best artist of all time. Listen to Oh Darling when he was in the Beatles, he had a great voice
"RAM" and "Band on the Run" are two of the best albums by anyone!
Ram didn't have one good song on it
Go down this rabbit hole and the other Beatles as solo artists, and I mean artists 😊
This is the video for the Rockestra Theme they played 1985 over. You might like Rockestra. You can hear what's actually being played in this video. Love 1985 btw
Great choice..... Another McCartney tune worth checking out is "Live and Let Die" .... Was used as a soundtrack song in a Janes Bond movie.
You must hear "Goodnight Tonight" and "Every Night". First program rocker.
The song is from “Band on the Run” my favorite McCartney solo LP.
This song is AWESOME
I know Paul can create a complete Beatle vibe all by himself (he is one, after all!) but could you imagine this song fleshed out by the Beatles?
‘Daytime Nighttime SUFFERIN’ is a good one!
Every solo song by a former Beatles member is still a Beatles song to me --- when I listen to them, as far as I'm concerned, they never broke up. a little almost unknown gem ive always liked a lot, dig that rythem.......
McCartney another composer, singer, and performer. Great song thanks

You found a real banger here.
check out his Song "Too Many People" or Monkberry Moon Delight. oh wait...check out any of his songs. all brilliant
McCartney was the first prog rocker!
Another gem on that album is "Goodnight Tonight"!!!!!!
That isn't on the "BAND ON THE RUN" album
Digerido-esk. I love it. This is a fun song to play.

What you see at the start was the rehearsals for the "ROCKESTRA THEME"

❤️tough lyrics
❤❤
Much like The Beatles.... you never know what to expect next, but you know it will be something entirely different.
ANYONE notice John Bonham, John Paul Jones and David Gilmour in this video ???
Enjoy the masters!
Band on the run is a song of his to check out.
More 🔥
Wonder what song they were actually playing in the video footage.
This is a great closer to a great album. hence the reprise of Band On The Run at the end.
A Fave McCartney & Wings song!
You have some nice waves too!
Thanks!
The grass may appear to be greener on the other side.... It's just as hard to cut.
The video is misleading. McCartney plays drums and bass and guitar is Denny Laine. McCullough and Brittan joined after this was recorded.
Last track on the album, possibly the best one
great band. Wings was a bit poo poo'd by my friends, but I loved them!
This album cover has a lot of famous 79's 80's people on it :)
Lol, whoever did those subtitles doesn't speak English as their native language Those were some crazy and weird interpretations of the lyrics in places.
In my opinion it is a toss up on who is the greatest songwriter in our lifetime, McCartney or Dylan. Both brilliant musicians
I would give it to Paul he plays almost everything on this track
So funny, the lyrics on that video are 70% wrong....Lol
It's actually Paul McCartney and Wings.
That whole album, Band On The Run, is just a great album, not a bad track on the record.
Great George Harrison song/video: th-cam.com/video/8Ac34Khe-fc/w-d-xo.html
(Crackerbox Palace)
As for "Reators"... When you find that special one, stick with them.
Can croon and scream a song at the same time...
Brother do yourself a favour sit back and play the whole album , satisfaction garanteed .
sang about love sex and happiness
that video is not of the same song
correct, the beginning is the rehearsals for the "ROCKESTRA THEME"
I have never liked Paul's very nasil vocals on this one!!
Nasal? It's "grit" in his voice.
