I was prescribed nortriptyline and pregabalin for peripheral neuropathy, and nerve damage from a car accident, (a car literally ran over my head after hitting me) my feet up until my knees burn like they are dipped in hot chip fat. The most excruciating pain I've ever been in. Pregabalin and nortriptyline have numbed the pain. That's all they do, is mask the pain and make it more bearable. I can't feel my feet when I walk its so strange. I'm on 30 mg of nortriptyline and at the beginning I was on 1200 mg of pregabalin but now I'm on 125 mg three times a day. And it does work, but as I said it just masks the pain. I've had this for 6 years now.
Questions: I was prescribed Nortriptyline 50 mg for Neuropathy by my Pain Management Doctor. I've been on it almost a year, just now found out its to treat depression. I read up on it after being off of it for almost 1 month. I guess it has withdrawal issues. I suffered from extreme headaches & was VERY irritable while I was off of it. Is that a normal side effect ?? An Why did she prescribe a antidepressant to me claiming it was for Neuropathy ??? An Why such a high dosage for a 1st time use ?? I wasn't depressed, just in pain. I've had neuropathy for at least 6 yrs, its never caused me depression. ** If you read this, can you please give me an answer. Thank you. **
Hey bud, I'm a pharmacist and also take nortriptyline for my sciatic nerve pain. I can understand your confusion as your doctor was being extremely vague and didn't explain the drug well and now it's left you confused and wary of their decisions in the future. Quite a wide variety of drugs can treat a multitude of health conditions, and won't always be prescribed hoping to treat multiple problems. Your doctor doesn't think you have depression, it's quite simply that nortriptyline can be used for depression, neuropathic pain, and weirdly enough to stop smoking. Vyvanse for ADHD is also prescribed for over eating disorders. Pregabalin for seizures also treats neuropathic pain, and anxiety. Omeprazole for acid reflux is often prescribed in combination with NSAIDs to protect the stomach lining. Sodium valproate for seizures is also used for bi polar, and other personality disorders, same with lamotrigine. Drugs are a funny thing to think about, and your doctor should've treated you like an intelligent human and told you this, as most people research their new prescription medications and will end up confused like this if they had no idea
I just got prescribed the nortriptyline and hoping to get the pregabalin because of carpal tunnel surgery. Haven't tried it yet hope it helps and doesn't make me groggy
As with all antidepressants or with something as simple as taking an aspirin, there are side effects to be aware of. The case is we become lab mice in order to know how any medication will affect us. For some, many side effects, for others, none at all. My problem is that it takes weeks or months before you feel the benefits of it, and by that time your brain receptors have been altered which makes it difficult to jump off. That's when all hell really breaks lose. The side effects can be so bad that you'll have to stay on it or never be the same again, and for some people, it's not a problem.
Why is it OK for antidepressants to take 6-7 weeks to work but would be unacceptable for antibiotics? If you've reached the point of not being able to do your job, you don't have 6-7 weeks before your life is going to get a whole lot worse. Weight gain and impotence don't take 6 weeks to happen though. Thank you for your videos Doctor.
There's currently multiple clinical trials for its use in T and Hyperacusis. Looks like it works a bit better for ear pain than tinnitus but it's worth a try!
As mentioned in the video. Nortriptyline is often pescribed to treat a depression, bipolar disorder, neuropathic pain and to help with smoking cessation. For more information on medications or tips to reduce/treat insomnia you could contact your personal doctor.
Thank you for getting back to me and your response to my question. It was my gastroenterologist who prescribed this medication. I hope you and your family are safe, well, and happy. God bless you! ☮️ 💖 🙏
@@jesusislord2457 Just to encourage you with insomnia... I feel ya! I have a long history of insomnia, the truly debilitating kind.. after trying all of them (drugs), without good effect, my Dr suggested Nortriptyline along with my daily exercise for insomnia. I cant stress enough how required daily exercise is to keep a sleep/wake routine and eliminate insomnia. I am now on my way OFF of nortriptyline, and am blessed and happy to say that headaches and insomnia are a thing of my past! There came a point when I realized... I do not want to be on medication for ANYthing, as I get older. I want to be free of that burden to myself and to my children! I'm learning... Exercise may be even more beneficial for my mind than my body! Bless you!
Would you be able to speak to it’s effectiveness In migraines?
It works to prevent the frequency of most headaches. However, I still get the occasional silent migraine -which aren't a big deal.
Does this help you gain weight it's hard to eat when your son's not around

Because it treats both
Nortriptyline is also used as pain medication - I have a disc bulge and when it causes any nerve pain my doctor told me to use this
@@malinichandra6953 do you have to use it indefinitely?

is there any benefit of combining nortriptyline and pregabalin?
I just got prescribed the nortriptyline and hoping to get the pregabalin because of carpal tunnel surgery. Haven't tried it yet hope it helps and doesn't make me groggy
Pregablin in my opinion is such a dirty drug . Makes me feel really drunk . I prefer oxycodone
I need something for uncontrollable anxiety and depression. Hydroxizine helps but I sleep 20 hours a day and it does nothing for depression.
Exercise for depression! Trust me
My neurolgist prescribed me nortriptyline 10 mg for my mirgranes i have asthma and high blood pressure yes i also suffer mental health
High doses of Nortriptyline works great to calm ASPD. But don't use the medication with SSRIs if you have sociopathy.
hah! this crap is a odd experience with sociopathy
It stops me smoking cigarettes?
no doesn’t me lol

My pharmacist said they would be side effects using nortriptyline and Lexapro
this medication gave me dizziness and loss of appetite and heart issues horrible medication
For you it is a horrible medication. Doesn’t mean it’s bad for everyone
Why would anyone want to take this medication if it got all those side effects and I know all medication has side effects
