Good video but I don't get thrash from this at all really. I personally think DRI, SOD, Anthrax, Slayer type progressive power chord riffs. The signal not riffs remind me more of black metal.

I got a question as a newbie about metal riffing, i just learn lowest 3 strings for "a" minor scale and start riffing with some articulations. what should i do to break out and spice up my metal rhythm guitar playing? Does song key matter for metal riffing? should i try mixing in more scales and keys and how? i am really confused about this.
CarnivorousRoach Take a look at modes. Especially Phyrgian. Scales are great to know, but you can play something random and find out what sounds good to you. There are technically an infinite number of scales

I keep thinking you were going locrain or phrygain off of that E at least....if you wernt going phyrgian dominant it .lol...harmonic minor b2 or Lydian b3 would be totally sick too.. Or the diads aside from the 5th. My drummer cant keep up.lmao
It's not that hard dude...4 x 7 = 28 diatonic modes... KEYS are just PITCH Call them whatever the fuck you want... b3 = melodic minor b6 = Harmonic Major b3, b6 = harmonic minor b3, b6, b7 = natrual minor #4 maj6, maj7 = Lydian b3
