I truly want to thank you for developing this solution for many of us that are bummed about the current lack of SDK support on the Air 3. I really appreciate all the work you’ve put into this. Thank you so much.
Well well, you have created what others have tried to do for quite a while and it's really a simple solution. Love it. Would love to see you expand on this so we can also create missions generated with custom paths, altitudes, viewing angles, and POI. Thanks for the contribution.
Two things I would love to see. First I am in the states. So I can do the math but an option for the imperial system would be nice. Second, little different than your original plan. But I know a lot of us would like to play waypoints from our computers and phones. Would be awesome if you gave us the option to make our own missions and save them. I know for me it would be super helpful and save me a lot of time. It would be so much easier to do at my desk than on the controller. But anyways thank you so much for this! I can't wait to try it!
That was my first reaction - I'm not quite ready to learn mapping yet, but I would actually use waypoints if I could set them ahead of time on a large monitor.
Honestly you’re a saviour. Was extremely frustrated with having paid more for the DJI RC and it not being able to run any 3rd party apps while the RC-N1 allows you to. Paid more to get less!
Thankyou. That is very clever indeed. I will have a closer look at this when I have time in a couple of weeks. Meantime, I followed your steps, created a small mission and uploaded using the method described. It worked perfectly first time. I would say it may throw some users if they dont realise that the thumbnail preview on DJI still reflects the original mission with that name. If you make a slighr edit to the uploaded mission the thumbnail updates. I have tried creating a mission manually with screen taps previously. It is slow and awkward and the spline fitted curves leave big gaps. Fair enough, you deal with this on your premium version. In the UK at least, surveyors are probably pursuing this because heavier drones (Mavic 3E) are restricted by drone rules for proximity to people. If a Mini P4 can be used for difficult sites its still way faster than going in on the ground with conventional survey kit. You still need to be mindful of being back to loads of GCPs and flying slow with a non mechanical shutter.
Bro you're the GOAT! I'm starting a drone company so I can make money while still being a stay at home dad. This tool should help immensely and keep me from having to buy an enterprise mapping drone. Thank you bro.
Very Clever and Creative. Amazing solution! You could also generate the KMZ file from one of the mapping programs (Like Pix4d or Drone Deploy, or Dronelink) and upload that to the RC controller. Have your tied that approach? Well Done!
Hello, have you managed to enter a .kmz route? I have tried it with the 3D kmz route that Litchi generates but when I return to the RC2 controller, it does not appear, Can you help me? Thank you so much
This is really sweet. Thanks for creating it! Two suggestions: 1. allow for grid coverage 2. Instead of distance between paths, how about coverage overlap (usually seems like the map generators like 70-75% overlap). Are you using webodm or similar to render the map?
Well done on updating your apps so quickly. Great new features. It was only 2 weeks ago I was hoping for rotate the rectangle, now we have Polygon. Thank you
You can do 2 second pictures too you just need to change it to the 12 mp option. I've used this many times now I love how easy it is to do it, only thing I find a little wonky sometimes is using the circle map option. There a lot of trial and error when using the circle option. I find making the circle bigger then the object helps if not sometimes you end up with just 6 waypoints right in the middle of the object instead of around it. Anyway besides that this is an amazing tool to have and for free I have to thank you for doing that, I do plan on purchasing when I get Paid, I don't make alot of money so having this as a free option is just wonderful and I thank you for that. But I do plan to purchase to support the cause and the hard work you put into making this. I hope with lots of people funding you Eventually you will probably tie it right into a mapping software so you can make your 3d maps or survey maps. I hope to see that someday you really are showing dji how easy it is just to include mapping into the app itself, anyway again I thank you for your hard work and your great Contribution to us drone Enthusias this is great cheers
Very fascinating and useful. After a quick look at the mapping feature, I'd suggest an option to rotate the rectangle area, a number of degrees (even if just an option for 30º, or 45º) so don't have to highlight/map an overly large area. Overall a very simple and effective option that will be useful for many.
Unbelievable...thank you! I have a mavic 3 ..the first edition..with optical zoom...i hope it wil work on this one also...is it possible to do a double grid? And are you planning to optimize it so it is possible to choose front/side overlap?
Oh and yes please to polygon path creation and allowing individual points to be easily adjusted (height in particular) 😊 The rest can easily be done in the app before flight! 👍🏻
Thanks man... I think this is brilliant.. because i am the one who think that it is wasting of drone battery flying to a certain point by the drone itself and not able to import paths we already made in our computer. I love the way litchi made its users happy when planning a mission only from browser

Im so happy to watch your videos. btw, is it possible to extract the data from the drone into Agisoft software so that i could create 3D digital elevation mapping?
Would it be possible to explain the waypoint mission file transfer from the website interface to the RC2 controller? You explain it so fast that even if I keep stopping and starting the video, I am struggling.
5:00 DJI RC controller, the option of selecting the DJI RC controller to transfer from the SD card to internal memory isn’t there. Is there something I’m doing wrong?
Hi! Thanks for making the video! I tried to manually add points in a square format and the lines are straight on the website but when i load the file in RC2 controller the lines are curved. Is there a way to fix this? I have a mini 4 pro with rc2 controller.
When I go to copy over the KMZ file from SD card on the RC2 controller I hit move and then when I go to look for the location to move it to the only option I am showing is "downloads" and the android card? can you please point me in the right direction for file path. Thanks !!
When you're in the File menu where your kmz is, you need to click the three dots on the top right corner of your screen, and then click "Display internal storage" or something like that (i have my controller in french so i don't really know how it translates in english. It is the option right under "Select all". Then, the internal storage of the RC will show up when you open the file navigator on the left just like in the video. Hope that helped !
@@theomartin3145 i have made a dummy waypoint map by flying the drone in hyperlapse waypoint mode. when i move the mission waypoint files, i can navigate to the internal waypoint folder but cannot see any existing waypoint files in that folder, so cannot replace them. Any ideas on where these waypoint files may be saved?
Could it be that DJI RC2 cannot connect to a Mac because its an Android device? I have read this info on a forum, it would make sense. I tried again today to connect my RC 2 via usbc cable to my Mac, no device recognized. A pity, unfortunately I dont use a PC.
Great video and great job on the software. I will be trying it out soon. What program did you use to generate the map after? I have seen a few out there but this didnt look familiar
Cool. You know what would be awesome is the ability the enter an address on for the map so I can plan it out before I arrive on site. Also, I noticed that most point clouds for mapping request more than 20 but less than 150 for standard so perhaps based on the distance of the mission it could show recommend 5 7 10sec photos would give x num of photos. If you wanted to get super fancy, you could use another vector such as altitude which triangulate with distance from further point to next furthest … ✖️➗➕ speed should be x and photos per sec x . 👏
Hi - thanks for finding a way to import kmz files to the Go Fly app. Unfortunately for me (an old guy with a very poor brain) I just can't follow your rapid navigation through the file structure of the DJI RC. Also I can't find a way to go back one step in that file structure - it just flips back to the home screen. I tried to follow your video instructions but ended up with the kmz file removed from my SD card and no sign of it anywhere on the DJI Fly app. And, surprisingly a complete copy of the DJI Fly app file structure was copied to my SD card. Think it's time for me to dump drones and take up knitting! Can you do a step by step , screen by screen detail of the process please - I'm happy to pay you for your time.
very intresting, thank you for the demonstration! I would definitely buy it, if its working.. testing atm and having som trouble, but i am just a random dude and not a pro.. but the monthly licensing model is a absolut deal breaker for me, i definitely will never pay a monthly fee. If you have a licensing model, where i can buy the version for 2024 for maybe 100 bugs, i will support it. i would pay 200 bugs for lifetime support. but this monthly payment like adobes strategy is ridiculous. I never use adobe again, will stay with open source then.
Love it, great idea and as others have said, such a beautifully simple way to solve it Vs the complexity of seeing the points manually in flight with the drone. Couple of points, when creating a waypoint map it seems to significantly reduce the size of the area covered. For example I drew a box over a local park giving a bit of extra edge cover (20m or so either side) and the edge waypoints were placed well inside the park about 50m inside my initial box... Is that expected?
What would you recommend for a tablet or smart book or smartphone to run this software? Just curious to see if all these bugs and glitches would be avoided with a bigger unit.
Great video and thanks for the information! Will this automated mapping also work on the DJI Mini 3 Pro? I see there is no SDK support on the mini 3 Pro or any other 3rd party app where you can generate an automated map.
@@JaysTechVault you can create and store waypoints under the "hyperlapse" function - and then fly existing waypoints through hyperlapse>waypoints>existing waypoints. However when importing a mission waypoint file from your mission planner, when copying it across from a sd card into the RC 1 internal storage, i am able to navigate to waypoints folder as per your video. When i click on the waypoints folder, none of the dummy flight waypoint files are showing up - it is just empty. so i cannot copy file names and replace. Any ideas on where i can find these files? or is this not possible with the RC 1 and mini 3 pro? Thanks so much
Thanks for doing this. I'm hesitant to buy a Mavic 3E considering the politics, and Skydio's solution isn't all that great either. Nice that I can use my Mavic 3 Cine for simple mapping and models. And I'll pile on for polygons, but it's easy enough to create several missions to get better coverage of odd shaped lots.
Nice! Someone is about to find out that Earth is level. Look for the curvature until you finally have to admit that it doesnt exist. Happy to answer your questions. Good luck.
Hello, thank you very much for your content! I'm about to buy a Mini 4 Pro but I don't know whether to buy with RC-2 or RC-N2. So, does this still work for the RC-2 and RC-N2 controllers? I'm reading in other comments that it is necessary to connect the laptop to be able to load the file. what would you recommend? I am considering purchasing the FMC Plus to take advantage of the discount but I want to ensure that this method can be used without the need for a connected laptop.
So does this automatically calculate the overlap based on altitude and the type of camera are you using on the drone? I know that the overlaps really important looks like a great program...
I assume I can work out the same process on my RC Pro (RM510) as well? I use it currently only with Mavic 3 Pro as the O4 based RC-2 is only compatible with my M4P and Air 3, and will likely not be kludged to pair with O3/O3+ aircraft - at least not by DJI, though it may be possible, similar to how they got the Smart Controller (RM500) to work -poorly, with Air 2S at one point. This is slick work you've done with the .kmz files. It's nice to have a process, vs. manually moving & overwriting fles.
I don’t have an RC pro to test with so I don’t know. I’ll have to get some revenue of some kind to buy stuff for testing, hire help, because the amount of work on this is daunting.
Hello! Thank you so much for this informative video tutorial! However, upon following your steps in importing KMZ files, the file itself is missing on the waypoint manager in camera view. I am using Mavic 3 Pro, btw. Hoping that you could help me with this!

Hey, I know this has been up for a while. Thankyou for this it looks awsome! I just want to know if the outputted 3d image can be edited after? I have a friend that wants his home mapped for a landscaping job after. is the 3d output a file that can be used with CAD or something similar?
It would be great if you could rotate the mapping area to any angle instead of being parallel to north. To map my property fully, I would have to partially fly over my neighbours.

RC 2 is easiest with the installer tool
Have you been able to add the ability to rotate the rectangle yet?
What is the software used at the end of the video that generates the point cloud?
He's Using Open Drone Maps for that point cloud. Its free if you know Linux, or you can buy an installer for windows or mac relatively inexpensively.
I am a big fan thx
Amazing software creation
TY sir... you are the man
thank you for this creative solution , I have some question about mission , can we use 48mp photo in this fly path? or it just use 12mp default?
Hello! Thank you so much for this informative video tutorial! However, upon following your steps in importing KMZ files, the file itself is missing on the waypoint manager in camera view. I am using Mavic 3 Pro, btw. Hoping that you could help me with this!
grat man, thanks a lot!
Hi Jay I found your video very interesting but I think I lost myself in where does the mkz file get stored after you generate it. there are a couple of buttons not sure witch one to pick. "Import KMZ Waypoint File"
9:55 I'm not specialist so might you tell me why SDK support is needed for mapping operations and what does SDK actually do for mapping?
Hey, I know this has been up for a while. Thankyou for this it looks awsome! I just want to know if the outputted 3d image can be edited after? I have a friend that wants his home mapped for a landscaping job after. is the 3d output a file that can be used with CAD or something similar?
Yeah, you need to use Aerialmodel.com and WaypointMap.com for that result
Have you created anything similar to this that would work on the Air 2S with the Smart Controller?
Same question
Awesome video!!! Do you have a tutorial on uploading the photos and creating that 3D model???
www.aerialmodel.com
What photogrammetry app are you using? It looks like ReCAP.
does mini3 pro have waypoints yet? or still only waypoints with hyper lap?
Hey Jay, what was that software you were using when showing the model at the end of the video?
I believe it was aerialmodel.com
@@JaysTechVault okay thank you
It would be great if you could rotate the mapping area to any angle instead of being parallel to north. To map my property fully, I would have to partially fly over my neighbours.
