For 2000 V6 Camry there are 2 upstream sensors, bank 1 and bank 2. They are different sensors, further confusion also 2 different requirements, one for CA the other Federal. Bank 1 sensor 1 cost more and PIA to install, located well below the engine next to the fire wall plus extremely tight to remove. OEM around $300, Denso OE around $170 for CA, Federal much cheaper but won't pass for CA smog test. EBay and Amazon, need to watch out for fakes.

Thank you for the simplest explanation to go with first, rather than listing a bunch of endless possibilities! Might you know if this is directly applicable to a 1999 Maxima as well? Thanks again!

Thank you for your clear instructions. Should the upstream and downstream sensors be replaced in pairs (or together)? I noticed this advice from others.

      They can be replaced individually.

When it comes to my toyota, I like to keep the parts OEM. Not so much with my other makes.

Do you happen to know the OEM part number for that sensor, specifically for a 2000 Lexus ES300

    1. History - Has anyone been working in the area lately, especially an amateur ?
    2. Inspection - Look ALL AROUND. "Anything can cause anything."
    3. Handle things to check for loose, broken ... A smog test lady just leaned on a hose once ... and it snapped. I thanked her for her preventative maintenance.
    4. Instrumentation - Stethoscope to listen for leaks, scanner
    5. Look for other systems with issues -
    6. Prayer

I went to a bmw shop and they changed me $600 for each sensor, and my car has four, but I was able to afford just two, since I only had $1200,it wasn't until a couple of days later that I found out that they're super cheap, and I could have replaced them myself 😔😔😔

Only use Denso sensors, Bosch doesn’t work with Toyotas or Lexus, if you did use Denso make sure you brought CA emissions if your car requires it. Check part numbers on Denso website next reset CEL light and use good gas
