Seems like it was just a different time. Like how if you have grandparents who grew up on a farm their view on dogs is more about their utility than as a companion. Or at least some dogs - I know one of my great uncles who was a farmer would talk about how dogs aren't inside animals, except for whatever the 'family dog' was. They had similar views on cats, and I think they even viewed cats as pests to some degree when the wild cats would breed and there were too many cats running around to be helpful vs what they provided by eating other pests. Different times, different cultural norms. I'm sure lots of people in the Bible had doggies they loved.

Material: our physical body who is bound by the laws of nature. Energy: our emotions and motion, animals have material and energetical souls. Essence: the human essence is what gives us rationality and a closer relationship to God, God has a divine essence and we have a human essence made in his image, humans have material, energy and essence. In the end we believe that all animals will be saved through mankind's redemption!
