There's a more concerning aspect besides usual data collection: there's allegedly backdoor code shipped with the app that could be used to collect data beyond the scope of the regular app (e.g. credit card data or compromising photos) and that could theoretically be used to get remote access to devices. The least concerning threat of such a backdoor would be that a threat actor could control what content is being shown or isn't. Other similar apps possibly have backdoors as well, but you can see that - given the current political landscape - that's a very real threat to the US government. The dumbening aspect of apps like TikTok is concerning as well, but basically every social media app has that to a certain degree nowadays.

Even though we've all caught them in the act listening by targeted advertising, that doesn't make it right. But we all deserve part of the blame for bringing these objects into our lives. I've read numerous articles about products like Alexa recording intimate moments in the home, audio & video. But im sure, somewhere in the terms of service, probably somewhere after the normal person gets tired of reading, you'll find where you agreed to it. His solution/background is that he's actually involved in startup/angel investor space. So he contracted out/bought in his production. I was chatting to him some years ago about carbon capture tech and I was pointing out the most effective solution is called Ruminants & it involved fields of grass aka Permaculture, which is rapidly spreading around the world as farmers recognise that by switching to permaculture they can get rid of all the explosives (ammonium nitrate fertiliser plus diesal) and chemical weapons such as small animals/bird killers (pesticides) insect-acides, fungus-acides, etc Buy Tick Tock is owned by Chinese Government in the same way that Volkswagen is owned by Bravaria & Germany. Or Boeing, Lockheed Martn, Rayethon etc are owned by the US Government. Whilst Tick Tock is a mouthpiece for China in the same way TH-cam, Facebook, etc are mouthpieces for the US government. In it reflects the culture they are from.

There needs to be more regulation across all social media platforms. In the old days, if you wanted to run a tv station, you had to comply with all sort of rules and regulations around the content you were allowed to present and how the station had to be managed. Social media companies don't even want to take responsibility for the content their platforms host. We are still coming to grips with the power this has on people.

I do like that TikTok is the most Anti Woke social media app out there. Considering that TH-cam, Facebook, Twitter were basically thought policing people.
The real problem is that we're not allowed to ban corporations and political parties to encroach upon or private lives, our attention and our everyday dealings. That's the only reason any social media or any other crap is a problem. I never used TikTok in my life, but I innately object to any instance of "the powers that be" prohibiting my use of anything while my Instagram and TH-cam feeds are invaded by right wing bullshit, consumerism and toxic sociopolitics every single day.
