I'm afraid your info about Henlow is 100% completely wrong. RAF Henlow was a major maintenance airbase during WW2, and was NEVER used for secret operations. It's still an RAF site today, but due to close in a couple of years. You are talking about RAF Tempsford, which was a secret base for Special Duty Operations. It involved the SIS (Secret Intelligence Service) and SOE (Special Operations Executive). It was way more than just a barn and a farmers field though.
Lancastrian here! Tackling England by historical counties ("geographical counties 1889-1974" as wikipedia refers to them) is a good choice. After being relatively unchanged for not far off a century, the situation changed quite a lot in 1974 and has been regularly changing ever since. It is now significantly more complicated (with several layers of local government introduced that varies quite a bit by the type of area). Also, after all this time a lot of people still consider themselves in terms of the pre-1974 counties. Liverpool and Manchester were both in Lancashire for example, but now sit outside of modern Lancashire. There are plenty of people living in the current Greater Manchester who insist on including Lancashire (or Cheshire!) in their postal address for this reason, and fortunately the Royal Mail has no problem with that. Everyone knows and understands the pre-1974 counties even if they're not quite as attached to them, so they're a good choice in this context.
Thanks for explaining this! I’m from the UK and didn’t know Bedfordshire wasn’t “official” any more. So it still exists in a geographical and social sense, but not in an administrative way… interesting.
@@laurataylor4945lol mancunian here who now lives below the river mersey in greater manchester, my mum still insists on putting cheshire in her address so she can seem posh!
Despite being from the UK, my knowledge of history and geography in the south is pretty shocking...I'm from just outside of Newcastle! Excited to listen to this one :)
Vauxhall is a car maker that was started life in Vauxhall, south London but then moved out to Bedfordshire. They are owned by General Motors. They had a separate brand for vans called Bedford, although that brand hasn't existed for a while now.
15:33 there's a pub in Bedford called The Pilgrims Progress, part of the Wetherspoons chain if pubs. 16:50 they filmed some of the Christian Bale Batman movies around Carrington. They actually show the exterior of the hangars in the opening scene of Dark Knight Rises when Bane gets himself captured and "nobody cared who I was until I put on the mask".
You should have a look at Kenilworth Road football stadium in Luton. Like old traditional UK stadiums it was built in a residential area and there are houses that form part of the one of the stadiums entrances and fans walk up stairs above people's back gardens as they enter the stadium.
I live in Dover now but I spent 21 of my 34 years alive in Bedford from young boy to a man. Never thought I'd see an American creator make a video about the county.
It's the same literally all the way from Bedford to Cambridge. Housing estate after housing estate after new build project after new build project. It literally will just be a Hostel Island within a decade.

This comment is 100% correct! It explains why I couldn't find it on Google Earth because I was looking at the wrong town and didn't double check.

People in the borough of Hillingdon still insist on putting Middlesex on postal addresses, despite the county disappearing 50 years ago.

They're called Cardington hangers, not Carrington 😊 lots of people make the same mistake

Thanks! Seeing people's back gardens in the football pitch is so cute!

My bad, I definitely got my notes mixed up before filming

The shire bit is more pronounced -sher than -sheer. Beds must be one of the most boring counties of England🤣
Think it depends on accent. I'm English and say 'sheer'
My birthplace. If they get their way they will turn it in to a housing estate. We are full up there is no room any more it's sad.
