They must have some history because I’ve never seen Mike pick at someone so much and criticise someone’s personality so much. Blighty did well to take it all. Apparently Blighty’s not allowed to critique anyone while he’s commentating, now allowed to frown, or have an opinion. Very unfair on him because he’s no different to anyone else in the caper. Including Sheahan who isn’t short of an opinion or critique.
As someone who lived in Adelaide during the 80s as a kid, I can support Blighty’s point of view. Before the AFL came along and the Crowes joined, the folks of SA did not give a rats ass about Victorian footy. It was all about the 10 SANFL teams. The Ross Faulkner footys. The suburban grounds and Footy Park. As well as the “check side”.
Also like that in the 70s. I was a kid supporting the Roosters with Robran playing. I did not have a VFL team. The only time we thought about VFL was when it came time for the State of Origin games. The SANFL and the VFL were close in the standard of players and play.
I love Blighty’s ideas, no wonder he was so successful. Saints should’ve let him do it his way, he’s won 3 more flags than they’ve won in their history!
Soooo true... I understand what the saints were thinking... But like you said he's won more flags than the whole club... Let him do it he's way, give him the time and resources to do it... And more importantly the faith to do it........ Saints- faith see what I did there.👍
Brilliant footballer, and a nice bloke ,was in his way after a practice match in sebastopol, he put his hands on my shoulders and said excuse me young man,can I get into the change rooms, and said thank you ,I'm a carlton supporter, but this bloke was awesome,he's a champion
Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him down in Hobart in 2015 at the Salamanca markets at a local cafe. Tried to cut the line in front of me. Total flog.
Equally the greatest player to ever lace up a boot,, what a star almighty blighty was to watch, skills on both sides and no player was more spectacular in the air or a kick of the ball. Wish him all the very best.

Sheehan spends about three minutes of the entire interview on the Adelaide premierships which were unequivocally the highlight of Blight’s coaching career. F***ing abysmal lack of research
I wonder if Blight knew his Shakespeare and gave some kind of "footy version" of the Henry V Agincourt speech to his players in the Geelong semi-final.
I can still recall Gary Hocking quoted in the paper, saying how amazing it was to have a coach who'd take speakies and roost torps at training. You just knew he was gonna take that club somewhere.
Always annoys me when journalists interviewing someone say “it’s not about me” “you don’t ask me questions I ask the questions” like they won’t tolerate being the one put in the hot seat, they love the comfort zone of picking apart everyone else and judging and critiquing the life out of them for all to see. When it’s put back on them they push back hard on it.
Mike skipped over the real reason Malcom got sacked from ST Kilda, his imfamous comment about ST Kilda having the worst cultre of any footy club he'd ever been involed in. He was'nt wrong though, he got sacked by the same board that sacked Stan Alves after taking them to a GF 97 and then PF the following year to replace him with Tim Watson who's coaching credentials came solely from his media carrer after retiring, and then after sacking Blighty they made their masterpeice by appointing a board member who was intsramental in his sacking and had even less coaching credentials as Watson as coach.
Saints board didn't want to hear a few home truths. If your going to appoint Malcolm Blight to coach the club you give him free reign to run a broom through the place onfield and off field and make the club relevant. You don't get offended at what was happening and use Blight as a scapegoat. His methods were highly successful. 9 and a half years as coach and 5 grand finals plus 2 flags. The club should have been embarrassed the way they treated him TBH.
Interteresting you said that. During Mark Jackson's Open Mike interview, Jacko said The Saints were a crap club back when he played for them... and Mike agreed with him.
Hi mate, do you have the Round 2, 1999 match against the Hawks? Crows won by 4 points (60-56). If you could upload the last quarter or the last few mins, that would be great. Cheers.
scraping the bottom of the barrel. met him up in queensland in 1994 when i was a 12 year old during summer at a local swimming pool. he was there with barry stoneham, justin madden, john rantall, greg williams, tony shaw, leigh matthews, mark ricciuto, jason akermanis, nick maxwell, david rhys-jones, neil balme, andrew mcleod, simon black, david schwarz, anthony koutoufides, mal michael, andrew demetriou, sam newman, matthew richardson, nathan buckley, rene kink, damian monkhorst, tony liberatore, keith greig, royce hart, bob murphy, stewart loewe, wayne schwass, kevin bartlett, alastair lynch, gavin wanganeen, corey mckernan, robert walls, peter sumich, denis pagan, jason dunstall, john kennedy jr, bob skilton, neil kerley, wayne johnston and phil carman. they were all acting like total flogs.

Champion & gentlemen. 2 premierships at North enshrined his greatness & then a great career coaching
An absolute living legend
Malcolm really wears his heart on his sleeve.
Blight's great, insightful and amusing (modern players take note..) ; I still think he's best player I've seen.
@J G ; I loved Malcolm Blight and lotsa' other Aussie rules players. And I'll be up at 02:30 tomorra' watching Liverpool v M.U. So there !

That was fantastic.
Great interview and amazing bloke but he should have been asked about Modra not playing in the 98 GF. That was his lowlight as coach
2:04 he is now a Legend of the AFL Hall of Fame. And with a Brownlow, Magarey and premierships he deserves it!
Good. A tiny bit of justice in the world.

He’s not as good as he thinks he is. Quality guests could do better with his questions and research.

Any 2020 cats fans here go to 34:50 Malcolm has some interesting thoughts about 92 GF which could have applied this year
