Leaders in the Local Church

  • www.truthforlife.org || By: Alistair Begg - Since a church will not progress beyond its leadership, appointing elders is a vital task that requires a clear understanding of Christian doctrine. As shepherds of the flock, elders work together to assure that God’s Word is taught, God’s Son is honored, and God’s people are edified. Alistair Begg explains that biblical eldership is pastoral, plural, spiritual, and accountable: diverse in giftedness and function, elders are accountable to God as they share the privileges and responsibilities of leadership.

    I don’t understand why it is easy to list forty crooked pastors within ten minutes but to list five in thirty minutes is near impossible. God! Raise up humble, honest leaders!!!!!

      I think it is to do with the fact that the people who play the music are not doing it for their own sake, they are doing it to glorify God - so applauding them is elevating them, when they are praising God through the power of the Holy Spirit. If that makes sense (a bit)

    The traditions of men, rooted in the Pride of Life, nullify the commands of God.
    So many traditions inserted eisegetically into the Bible over the last several hundred years that our exegesis is tainted.
    When we hear a word it goes first through the filter of man’s tradition before it reaches our ear.
    “Obey them that have the rule over you and submit to their authority.” Is used by pastors as a trump card to force believers into quiet submission.
    If a person does not accept this domineering leadership then they are accused of being divisive and insurgents and Lone Rangers among other things.
    It is supposed by Lording Pastors that the person is incapable of having any leaders. This is just not true. They’re just waiting for the ones that follow the Lord rather than their own whims.

      That is an interesting question actually. "Should every elder be allowed the opportunity to preach to the congregation?" or are some elders only apt for teaching one-to-one or to small groups?

    Leave the institution while you can. Escape the institution of a “lead pastor” or “head pastor”.
    You don’t need strong leaders. You need weak ones. In weakness Christ is shown strong.

      Hebrews 13:17 Obey those who [a]rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

    Why is it only professional men are chosen for eldership , Doctor lawyer Teacher etc , was not this way in bible

    • @StayInTheWord
      @StayInTheWord ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t believe the Bible says anything about Eldership being only for “professional” men. It simply states “men.” God has different roles for men and different roles for women.

      @@StayInTheWord Thank you for taking time to reply . I agree with you 100.% The point I was trying to get across , this does not happen in Reality .
      The disciples where not of professional stander .
      If a Doctor joins a Church very often they are made a elder within months. I truly believe this stops the Church growing . Makes people like me feel sub standard.
      Hope that explain bit better.

    What is the food to the flock? The word. How does one lead? Toward the Lord and according to the word.
    Why is it then that if you don’t want to sign a legal covenant membership document you are called sinning and disobedient and told to read Hebrews 13:17?

    Corinthians 11:6 is the key verse. If a woman has no covering while
    assembling or praying then her hair should be cut off.
    So hair and the covering cannot be the same thing.
    Indeed, this is proven by the man not to have a 'covering' on his head
    when praying to God.
    If the hair was the 'covering' then he would have to cut off his hair
    each time before prayers, or of course, be bald........{;o;}
