Im installing one of these controllers and i really appreciate your video. Taco fails to explain how to wire the isolated end switch to your boiler. Thanks a lot!!!

Good video. I would caution about the live ac line voltage in the lower left corner. The wire nuts are fine but you have the terminal block on the pcb which has hot voltage and no physical barrier or protection. You have live ac to the TACO chassis and also to your damp / wet basement floor. Even with GFCI breakers, don't temp fate !
Where do HVAC guys (and girls) learn to braid and pigtail the thermostat and zone valve wires the way they do ? 🙂

Hey there, great video. Does this controller work with Normally Open zone valves? They need to be energized when the thermostat is NOT calling for heat, opposite from the usual way. Thanks

Can you explain how to wire taco controller with white rogers zone valves?

Very informative. I am trying to troubleshoot our 4 zone system. Woke up to a cold living room. Bedroom fine, basement fine, Upstairs fine. 3 out of 4 fine. I have eliminated the Tstat as the issue. Taking the motor assembly off shows the motor continues to spin. The brass gears on the lever are crap. Question, With the assembly removed, Should hot water flow if the pump is running for the other zones. The rubber ball valve lever moves freely about 1/4 inch each direction. Is that normal.

      Hello.
For now I suggest put the power head back and force it to manual. The lever that is under the valve, pull it to the right. There is a hook (look) Hook it and wait two seconds, If it was properly hooked it will stay. If you failed to Hooke it the lever will return to the original position. That will allow water to flow through, As you said when the other valves are calling for heat, That will buy you some time until you get parts. Let me know what you end up doing.,

@alexthehandyman3494 I did try that prior to removing it. The lever was all floppy and I suspect the linkage is busted. House is warmer this morning, I set the basement t Stat to hold 72F and the bedrooms to hold 66. Fireplace is set to 68 so it fires up automatically. We should be good til parts arrive. Thanks

Hi, does it matter which wire goes on the pump end switch, i see u said the power source goes to the right X of the pump end switch and the pump hot wire goes to the left X, so am seeing other videos have it the opposite side, can u please confirm and whats the difference? thanks

    • @alexthehandyman3494

Hello , XX is just a switch. Even though there is power on either X. It does nothing until the zone valve end switch makes. It makes X and X. Then the X that had the power goes to the other X , then it goes to the pump. So really it doesnt matter where you put the power or pump. Just like a light switch in your house. It Does nothing until you press the switch. Power remains on one side of the switch just waiting for a command. makes sense?

I have TACO ZVC 406-exp. Lightning nocked out fuse link on utility transformer. When power restored, found that the TACO ZVC 406-exp was not working. Fuse on lower blown. Changed and blew again. Need help troubleshooting. Prior to event system was operational since installation in Jan 2004. Can you point me in a direction to diagnose?

Hello my friend!! If something like that happens to my control. I would replace it and not try to fix it. However, there is nothing wrong with that. I admire your courage.
      1. Cut the power off.
2 Remove the control from the case and look behind the solder connections. If you see any burns in the back. Get another control
      3. Many times the culprit is a shorted burnt transformer.
Take it out our the system. Restore power. If nothing happens then the transformer(s) is to be blamed.
      4. Im not if the relays can be replaced on this model.
Good luck. let me know what you ended up doing.

I'm wiring up a boiler tomorrow. Do I need to have 4 wires from the zone valve to the Taco, or can I jumper 3&4, and run my r and w to 1&2? The boiler has a circulator connected to the boiler itself. And if so, where do the r & w go on the zone valve? Do i need the 4wires to run the valve motor? I have the same Honeywell valves with terminals, and a Taco 5 zone control with priority. And help would be appreciated. Thanks.

HELLO, in the system I show you here I have the main boiler pump that is on all the time, controlled by the boiler. And then I have the branch pumps. The branch pumps, first and second floor. these pumps are the ones connected to the taco control. I have 2 taco controls. one for each floor. It is best if you connect the 4 wires coming from the zone valve in the 1234. Other wise it defits the purpose of having this control. 1 and 2 are the motor wires, and when they make turn on the first light on the control. 3 and 4 are the end switch and turn the pump on. That activates the second light. If you bypass or jump 3 and 4 might not serve its purpose. It will work but you just wasted your money on a control that you are not using. The R and W. from the thermostat when connected to the control are going to tell 1and 2 (from zone motor to turn. Once motor turn activate end switch sending power to 3 and 4. This activates the pump . I am not an expert but I hope this helps. Let me know how you do .

What should the isolated end switch on the Taco zone control read when your calling for heat or not calling for heat?

    • @alexthehandyman3494
      @alexthehandyman3494  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Rick,
Isolated switch should measure 24 volts when not calling .
Zero when is calling . Just like the thermostats. Thank you so much. II have a channel in Spanish I’d you are interested. It is call the same “Alex the handy man en español “
