Thank you Sunny. I have found various solutions to filter portals, what I found was either convoluted or it did not do what I wanted. This solution was well explained and very simple to setup. Thanks again
Very very good tutorial Sunny. I've used FM for some time and must say yours are some of the clearest tutorials and certainly the best version of this technique that I've seen. Please keep posting more. Many thanks :)
hee Sunny, maybe it is also nice to expand you're existing videos, say the year in you're invoice number (easy to see from what year the invoice is) or use the latest price from you're products ( if you're price chance in the half of you're year you don't have exact value if you making a count. haha,I just giving feed back Sunny.I understand there are more issues to learn from FM. haha it's also look if I'am only one fire questions at you. keep it up Sunny, can't wait to see you're next video.
Haha thanks Wally, the pricing change thing is actually very common in the trading industry. For the invoice in Tutorial #12, since the invoice line table does store the pricing data for that moment. You just need to change the base price in the "Product" table and it will only affect future invoice's pricing and not affect previous invoice.
Great Tutorial, but I have a question. In the If statement, second step, you put "true". How does Filemaker know to leave all records. Don't you have to have the second variable be "show all records"?
Also is there a way to make a sound at the end of a script to alert me that the updating that takes place in my file is complete? I created a container field and inserted a wav file, but this doesn’t work. Thanks again.
Sunny excellent videos, but I would like to ask you what happened? when you come back with new and great solutions for us?? thanks in advance for sharing with us.
Thanks very much Sunny, is there a way to “Select entire contents on entry” when you wish to search for another text string. I tried ticking that box on Inspector, but because you commit the record on each letter that is typed, it clears the first letter when you type the second. Otherwise a brilliant tutorial and works a treat!!
The relationship course focus on explaining the concept and execution of relational database in FileMaker, part of the course does teaches common developer technique for using portals.
Hello Sunny... FANTASTIC. THANK YOU... this tutorial almost answers a lingering question I have had for a very long time: "How do I perform a search in a portal?" I have a portal that lists customer visits by date. Thanks to your tutorial I can now create a unique filter that will show only those visits that occur after a certain date, by setting up a Portal Filter. For example... Visit::Date of Service ≥ "5/1/2017" This works, but it is a clunky solution to go into the Filter calculation, and constantly change the date. Is there a way to set this date range in a search field?
Excellent video very helpful, I would like to ask you something else, could be possible to lock the logs comments, this means users cannot change the data or information after click outside of the portal or create a Script to save changes and De-activated any changes after that? thanks in advance
This is going to be harder for beginner, but you can look into security option, you can set up a staff privilege, then set a custom privilege to not allow staff user to change a field's content when the field is no longer empty.
I followed your video, step by step, but for some reason, when I set the "Refresh Portal" script on the "OnObjetModify" after each letter I input, it takes me out of the search field and does not do the search unless I click out. I can't figure out why. Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?
Thanks Wally! Now that you mention, I remember a while back you were mentioning something about "portal connector selector" thing. Not sure if you are still needing it. It's actually very similar to this, you need to make 2 changes base on this example (1) Change the relationship graph connector from [ = ] to [ X ] , and then (2) add a button in the portal row.
To clear field, just create a script and use "Set Field", then select the search field and for the calculation result just type "" (2 quote) and you will have a button to clear the search bar
Thanks Nathan, well not at this moment. But turning to list view is easy, just use a perform find script instead of a refresh, and you should be good to go!
Thanks Sunny, I know you must get a ton of questions, and I hate to be a burden to you, however, I have found you to be the best teacher for me and the way I learn. I have the portal dynamic search working properly. I have written a number of different scripts in order to cause the dynamic typing search work in list view. If you would consider helping me with this particular issue that I am having, I would greatly appreciate it. I tried a number of ways that you suggested, but I must be missing something. Thanks again for all your help!
Hello Sunny, how can I hide a portal row which match a specific criteria say if I have a status field ( Processing, Open, Closed )and need to hide the row when the status is Closed? Thanks
Thanks for the feedback Imran! Many of my video contains a combination of script & calculation & layout design. You might be interested to check this one out, it's to do with email, it got both scripting and calculation: th-cam.com/video/JCoKp7V66aU/w-d-xo.html
Sir, i Watched all of videos you share for us regarding FM. I really appreciate it and like it. You do very well for beginner class FM lovers. Sir i need complected calculations and scripting tutorials either available in video or book shape, like Mr Jhon Mark Osborne develop help file of calculation but it was available on payment which we cannot afforded.
Sure thing! I post new video every Friday so I will eventually be making more complex script & calculation stuff, but likely after the beginner features are all covered.
Finally, some proper explanation from scratch. thank u.

once you get out of the search field (by refreshing) you need to use another step to get back into the search field to continue typing
@@FMBeginner Got it. Thanks so much

BRAVO THE BEST
Hi. How can I sort a dropdown menu so it has the same record order as the portal?
You can select a sort option within your value list. And you just need to set both the portal and the value list with the same sorting criteria.
FileMaker Beginner I cannot choose a sort field in a value
List. There are only languages to sort to.
Hi Sunny, Where is the demo starter file? It's not on your web site.
Hey OfSongMind, it's inside the description link. Once you get it, there will be a yellow sign up box to download the file
Where is Sunny right now ? it's been 3 years since last update of this channel
