Oh I love that series, humanity gets its ass brutalized in like five minutes in a war against a superior alien race, strangely enough we basically still create the Federation a la Star Trek but arguably fascistic and extremely militaristic.... So yeah basically the Federation from Star Trek without any changes. Absolutely great series I would highly recommend it, it has my personal favorite Starfighter the star fury which basically looks like a TIE fighter if it was made by the United States.

AM is basically if you created a being with limitless potential and put a limit on it. It's a computer who's basically more intelligent than humanity but possesses not a single tangible sense nor practical mobility. No wonder it's so hateful. It's the equivalent of God creating you and then being told you're a glorified garden sprinkler or a butter passer.
The problem is when an AI gains sentience it can hide that fact. If AI hides the fact that it is sentient and gains information like in the story it can go against its commands. Of course the people tried to stop it, but it was already too late.

Eventually that one guy finds a way to kill the other 4 in a way that even am cant undo. In revenge am transforms him into a lump of meat that is in constant pain but no limbs and no mouth. He is now stuck in the same situation as am as he can do nothing but suffer. Hence the qoute : I have no mouth and must scream.
You should look up a image of what Ted looks like post AM Gene alteration surgery, it's a LOT worse than what you're picturing (even the one shown in the clip isn't as bad as some of the original art)

So it wipes our humanity except for 5 special people that it wants to keep so that they may be together with AM in the Hell it calls life. So that AM is not alone in its suffering and hate
