Unpopular opinion: My favorite part of this scene is seeing the look sheer excitement and almost joy on Robert Muldoons face after realizing he "Beat" the Tyrannosaur .
I don't see why that is unpopular, me personally but I enjoyed when Rexy pushes over the big tree just as they are getting into the jeep, but I get your train of thought :)
I always noticed his little laugh and smile too. But it's not my favourite part lol. If anything all my favourite parts in the JP saga involve the Trexes. They are just too damn cool and the effects crew did a fantastic job with its design, the head looks so scary but also beautiful, the feeling i get when watching male lions. They also did an excellent job with the cries. I also love the cry of the male Trex in JP2, sounds like an alien like monster. perfect
Unfortunately he passed away due to cancer, if not his character was supposed to survived. He is 1 of coolest side character in JP, even till his very end
Love how Muldoon keeps his cool. He's just as terrified as the others but like the badass he is he is just trying to get that object farther away than it appears
The shaking glass/puddle of water goes into history as one of the most iconic scenes of any movie. It is in many ways, emblematic of the whole Jurassic franchise.
Thanks to watching JP1 as a kid, more than one person has commented over the years on how many quips I make under stress. I learnt it from the master. I doubt I’d ever come up with anything that good were I to ever wake up in a ruined toilet block with a badly broken leg and PTSD. I’m quite fond of, “Please, chance it,” as well.

The Trex has helped out mutiple times, Jurrasic Park 3, and Jurrasic World. They are not monsters just hungry and I doubt that park has enough for it to consume considering its nothing to a TRex natural habit
I love the slow reveal of Malcolm’s character. He starts as this charming but slightly slimy flirt, but as things go to shit you start to see a hero; when he jumps out of the car with the flare to save Grant and the kids, and in this scene where he instinctively puts his arm across Satler to protect her

To me, Laura Dern's delivery of "Shit! Shit! SHIIIIT!!!" is one of the things that totally sells this scene. That's exactly what you'd be saying in this situation and exactly how you would say it.

Oh yeah it was hard. Four of the handlers were eaten, two had some limb cut off. Some 23% of Jurassic Park's budget went to worker's compensation for the animal handlers.
MIKE ZEROH Actually, it was a combo of both CGI and animatronics. For scenes where the t-rex was standing around and roaring, they literally used a large giant T-rex robot created by Stan Winston. For scenes where the T-rex was running, fighting, and hunting, they used CGI. Pretty good effects too because it's difficult to tell the difference between the two different animation styles.
One of the greatest moments in movie history. I just love the slow buildup from the stomps, to the panic in Malcolm’s voice, to the MIGHTY ROAR!!! Absolutely spine-chilling! This will always be the best Jurassic Park film!

If that’s still something you’re into, I’d really recommend the app Zombies! Run. A similar sort of thing but you’re being chased by zombies instead of dinosaurs. And the plot line is amazing.

Dr. Love 1987 -- That's the beauty of practical effects and ILM being so meticulous about their work. I think Jurassic Park has 10% CGI, and 90% physical effects. Physical effects are always going to age gracefully compared to digital effects.
besides, i notice today's cgi effects focus more in the moving of the animal and not so much in the visuals. They make them move a lot more than they used to in this film, so now it doesnt look natural moving, it looks more like a videogame, they move now even more than actual real animals do.. plus the cameras move a lot today too, the whole scenes look like they were all filmed in a green screen studio, and back in the day it was all analog, it was real, everything was made with steady cams held by people, it felt natural, they would show the characters point of view, that made it feel like a horror movie, not an souless action movie
Like the other comments said, practical effects don't age as badly as outdated CGI, I noticed on rewatch that a lot of the CGI moments looked obviously fake, as opposed to the animatronics which had more realistic movement, color and texture.
I went to watch the first Jurassic Park movie back in 1993 when I was 8 years old and was totally gripped by the film. I was actually very nervous when watching some of the scenes in the film. The T rex breakout and the scene with the Raptors in the kitchen hunting the kids were two scenes where I was on the edge of my seat. It’s my favourite all time movie and I will never get bored of watching it.
The best part of this was at the beginning. Everyone has been in a position where they sense impending danger. The lead up to the chase is what does it for me.
I noticed that the T-rex even as she is young in this movie actually started to run slowly and it wasn't until Malcom said "must go faster" that she herself started to pick up the pace. Its also easy to not notice that she actually didn't run after them for very long, it was about a minute long burst of speed, half of which she was either trying to flip them over or pick up the pace and after that she gave up. So it was a realistic chase as much as it was an awesome scene :) If you must rationalize how Claire outran her, keep in mind that Claire likely turned a bunch of corners and that the downtown T-rex kingdom wasn't very far from the plaza where the fight broke out, so even though Rexy was older, it was also the she had to likely turn corners, decelerate and then pick up the pace all over again each time.
It's so funny how the scene starts out at the road with the electric vehicles and broken fence, then as soon as Malcolm starts freaking out they're on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere with no fence and the jeep parked in the opposite direction.

For a couple seconds, the audience is seeing the chase through the driver's *perspective*. The humor is the clever nod to the "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" disclaimer that is on most side view mirrors. The T-Rex looks like it's already getting very close, but we know because of the disclaimer that it is actually closer than it appears to be from that perspective. Hope that helps! It's a very clever little moment.
Wancroc Slayer In actuality, they can't run more than 15 mph, and that's for bursts. When this movie came out, it was believed the could run 30 mph or even 40 mph in one long burst.
The amount of energy required to make that huge body move that fast would likely kill the rex if the prey got away. Can't see how they thought that was possible.
I think, the Thing is quite simple. "Today" at Jurassic World, Rexy is over 20 years old. Ok nobody knows, how old Dinosaurs can be, but i think, JW Rexy, is a "Grannysaurus-Rex" now. Of Course, she cant run anymore like as a Teenager ;)

Perhaps not better than "all" CGI nowadays, but certainly better than a lot of them. There was a huge investment in this movie, thats why. They did it with time and care. Lets not forget 75% of the scenes were indeed robots, but this was not, it was CGI indeed, and very well done for the time.
Such a simple scene. No frills, just pure adrenaline. Notice how in the later movies it was always about the next baddest incarnation yet they all felt hollow? I still get my heart rate up watching the original, yet hardly anything with the World movies.
My great grandmother was born in the 1800s, she was still alive when this came out. I wonder what she thought about these movies. Imagine going from horse and buggy and no technology to this in one lifetime lol.
Yeah, the special effects and sound design is awesome, yeah, Jeff Goldblum is at his brilliant best as always, but for me, Laura Dern just absolutely KILLED it in this scene!

How is it that a movie that is over 20 years old still have better special effects than movies today?
Dr. Love 1987 -- That's the beauty of practical effects and ILM being so meticulous about their work. I think Jurassic Park has 10% CGI, and 90% physical effects. Physical effects are always going to age gracefully compared to digital effects.
besides, i notice today's cgi effects focus more in the moving of the animal and not so much in the visuals. They make them move a lot more than they used to in this film, so now it doesnt look natural moving, it looks more like a videogame, they move now even more than actual real animals do.. plus the cameras move a lot today too, the whole scenes look like they were all filmed in a green screen studio, and back in the day it was all analog, it was real, everything was made with steady cams held by people, it felt natural, they would show the characters point of view, that made it feel like a horror movie, not an souless action movie
Like the other comments said, practical effects don't age as badly as outdated CGI, I noticed on rewatch that a lot of the CGI moments looked obviously fake, as opposed to the animatronics which had more realistic movement, color and texture.
I think it’s the lighting.

I went to watch the first Jurassic Park movie back in 1993 when I was 8 years old and was totally gripped by the film. I was actually very nervous when watching some of the scenes in the film. The T rex breakout and the scene with the Raptors in the kitchen hunting the kids were two scenes where I was on the edge of my seat. It’s my favourite all time movie and I will never get bored of watching it.

I noticed that the T-rex even as she is young in this movie actually started to run slowly and it wasn't until Malcom said "must go faster" that she herself started to pick up the pace. Its also easy to not notice that she actually didn't run after them for very long, it was about a minute long burst of speed, half of which she was either trying to flip them over or pick up the pace and after that she gave up. So it was a realistic chase as much as it was an awesome scene :)
If you must rationalize how Claire outran her, keep in mind that Claire likely turned a bunch of corners and that the downtown T-rex kingdom wasn't very far from the plaza where the fight broke out, so even though Rexy was older, it was also the she had to likely turn corners, decelerate and then pick up the pace all over again each time.
It's so funny how the scene starts out at the road with the electric vehicles and broken fence, then as soon as Malcolm starts freaking out they're on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere with no fence and the jeep parked in the opposite direction.
Laura Dern was only 25 years old when she made this movie. She doesn't look a day over 40.

For a couple seconds, the audience is seeing the chase through the driver's *perspective*. The humor is the clever nod to the "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear" disclaimer that is on most side view mirrors. The T-Rex looks like it's already getting very close, but we know because of the disclaimer that it is actually closer than it appears to be from that perspective.

Wancroc Slayer In actuality, they can't run more than 15 mph, and that's for bursts. When this movie came out, it was believed the could run 30 mph or even 40 mph in one long burst.
The amount of energy required to make that huge body move that fast would likely kill the rex if the prey got away. Can't see how they thought that was possible.

Perhaps not better than "all" CGI nowadays, but certainly better than a lot of them. There was a huge investment in this movie, thats why. They did it with time and care. Lets not forget 75% of the scenes were indeed robots, but this was not, it was CGI indeed, and very well done for the time.
