An excellent, precise and passionate ,performance of one of the very greatest quartets; there is much Beethoven here-and some Bach but, extraordinary and most sad, Mendelssohn's exquisite elegance and "lightness" transmuted into a vast ,intense, majestic sonic tapestry of grief and love. A great achievement of human art.Thank you, Dudok Kwartet.
Remarkably, before he wrote this, he said (or wrote - I don't know): "Bis jetzt kann ich an Arbeit, ja an Musik überhaupt nicht denken, ohne die größte Leere und Wüste im Kopf und im Herzen zu fühlen." Translated: "Right now, I cannot think about work, about music without feeling the greatest emptiness and desert in my head and my heart".
Magnificent! A truly superb and very moving interpretation of one of the greatest and most intense pieces of chamber music of all times. This interpretation brings out the emotional turmoil of the composer after the death of his sister: disbelief, grief, anger, resistance, love, tenderness, resignation, longing for beauty and transcendence, and longing for death. And all of these together.
This is an absolutely fantastic and wonderful quartet of individual and ensemble players. And this interpretation is wonderful. This music enters and inhabits the soul.
The first time you hear this quartet right from the very beginning of the 1st movement you know there's trouble afoot, but nothing really prepares you for the violent unhappiness of the 2nd movement.
Also, i love your 2nd violinist and violist. I am a violist and i know how hard it is to project as a middle voice and you both do a fantastic job at it. Keep up the great work!
This 1st Violinist is a prime example of what stoked the fire behind Mendelssohn's string quartets. I've yet to hear a better interpretation! Encore!!!
This beautiful and emotionally dark quartet is Felix's "Requiem " for her sister Fanny. They were very close, Fanny was possibly just as talented as him. He was devastated by her death and wrote this quartet. He died only about a year later. those who listen to this should also hear the String Quartet written by Fanny: th-cam.com/video/biWrI7O0s1U/w-d-xo.html
Is it really Mendelssohn, whose interpretations are often too smooth and elegant? Wonderful music! Momentarily crystallizing passion what might be supported by technique but far from modern tendency which overemphasizes mere technique. Why could they get the first prize. It doesn't persuade me. They deserve. I love this quartet. This is my taste! wonderful!! This quartet reminds me somewhat of New American Quartet led by Eudice Shapiro whose stile is austere and vivid but this quartet is more expressive. Nice!
This is the absolute best performance of this quartet that I have ever seen. I always go back to watch this one!

From time to time we can find unknown but real treasures on TH-cam.
I wish the best to these young musicians.

Mendelssohn wrote this in memory of his beloved, recently deceased sister.
You can practically feel his pain.

Beautiful performance. Thank you.
A stunning performance!
One of the best I've heard until Quatuor Ébène and Artemis came with their one, bravo!

Not many string quartets can boast of having a 2nd violinist of the calibre of this one.
A very notable performance by young musicians.
Good luck!
