This hype is always good for the hobby but I think to when Ben Simmons and Zion came in with the same hype. Even Wiggins had the "he's the next Lebron" but I still cannot remember someone living up to it. Lamelo was also huge. But that has died down. But, sadly, most do not and in the hobby it ends up costing investors a lot. Blake Griffin came with the same hype. and his cards were so expensive now you can't give them away.
There is no way Wemby dont live up to the hype. None of those guys you mentioned have this kind of hype. They was calling him the greatest prospect in team sports and if Lebron was in the same draft as Wemby Lebron would go 2nd was any of those statements said about zion, wiggins or simmons no i heard people said since Lebron on those 3 guys but never heard they were the greatest prospect in team sports or greater than Lebron. Wemby has a killer work ethic the only thing that stop him from taking the GOAT title away from MJ is Wemby. Since the spurs already had 2 successful number 1 picks in Tim Duncan and David Robinson i trust the Spurs can unleash Wemby full potential which is scary for the rest of the league.
Jordan may possibly be the GOAT of basketball, Trout may be the GOAT of baseball, Gretsky in hockey etc.etc. Jon Jones without a doubt IS THE GOAT of MMA. His last fight may be coming up soon before he retires. He is the one person who has NEVER LOST and will be revered for the next hundred years. Stock up on his cards before it's too late.

As a card collector, my first thoughts are; “How many collectors had to buy packs that contained junk to pay for this?” While I applaud the gesture, the hero worship has gotten completely out of hand.
How many collectors had to buy packs that contained complete junk regardless of if this event happened? I don't really think this event changed how people bought packs except a few might have over extended their budgets chasing the opportunity, people were still going to buy the product whether this event happened or not.
Going vintage.. modern is way too saturated.. i don't care if it's a 1/1... its not rare... too many autos overall... too many 1/1 for every insert etc.. just make 1... 1/1 for the entire set... make rare.. Rare again
I think Wemby will be a defensive monster next year. Maybe even DPOY. Think his offensive game will take a few years to really develop. I'm far from sold on him being a super star. That said, the way he comports himself is HOF caliber. Every interview, every interaction, he seems like he has the mile-high perspective (almost literally). His outlook and mannerism are similar to Kareem Abdul Jabbar but much more likeable and not even the slightest bit condescending.

Who ended up winning this card most likely some breaker right, because this was fixed by Fanatics to pretend it was going to someone else. This kid has all the hype but most likely he is going to be a bust just like Wander Franco is in Baseball. Some idiot will overpay for that card, but they wonder why the hobby has crashed it's because of fools like this. If I was that guy don't send that in to be graded, because they will end up losing it on you.
