    I would suggest going to a thrift shop and getting a couple old spoons with smaller bowls, and as long a handle as you can get. In the U.S., spoons made for iced tea could work. It would be easier to remove the dross that the big spoon was not able to get.

    • @Metalstacker
      @Metalstacker  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know exactly what you mean :) The current spoon is also from a thrift shop :) Yeah a smaller spoon would defenitely fit in the smaller crucibles :)

      Yeah when it starts to form that yellow stuff it is already too late LOL. Oh my, that must have scared you there :) I would love to have some nickel on day! Too expensive for me right now :) It is 2,5 times the copper value :)

    New sub, one thing I like to do that I’d recommend is taking a wire brush to the lip all around crucible so nothing is loose falling into molds. Also go much lighter on pressure and keep lid open. Zinc should never smoke and you have tons of time to work with it when liquid. Good luck will be waiting for new video!

    Nice pile of ingots! Very shiny, I like melting zinc, good quality silicone will hold up to the heat of molten zinc so you can make some fun items from it. just don't get it to far over the melting point of 420C.
    Use your laser thermometer next time to check it doesn't go over 700C to avoid the yellow stuff to form, I don't put the lid on when melting zinc, I also never had it be so brittle, I think there may have been some alloy there.

      Thanks Ralph! It could be there was some other stuff in it. I might try to cast some nice stuff with it one day as it is waay to much to make nordic gold and casting brass with all of it :)

    nice melt my friend. Zinc is cool, just lower your gauge to about .7mpa and keep the lid open, will help it from getting to hot. I am wondering if there was some other metal in with your zinc, seemed a little brittle, don't remember the large batch of zinc I melted a while back being that brittle, as I tried to break an ingot open and had difficulty getting it to break.

    • @Metalstacker
      @Metalstacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks buddy! Yeah I will shut off the propane earlier next time, had it under control for quiet a while, but that last batch went too hot as I was trying to get the previous poured ingots out of the moulds. Yeah it is quiet brittle... I always thought zinc was a very bendable material :)

    zinc, all that nice yellow "stuff".... oh and on a positive note, finally getting back to the cnc later today! As I was watching, was wondering when it was going to get to that "too hot stage", had that problem last time myself.

    Can you prevent the bars from breaking by stamping them on the side or end instead of the flat face?

    • @Metalstacker
      @Metalstacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The sides of most of them where too small, but it might prevent them from breaking. Ah well, I will just remelt them and pour it into a big bar, or weigh the pieces and and them with another metal :)

      @@Metalstackerdo you know why they are breaking?
      It must have something to do with the structure and maybe zinc needs to be made into an alloy?

    • @Metalstacker
      @Metalstacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can clearly see it by color and weight ofcourse, but initial I spot zinc from the color, it tends to be a lot darker ont he weather exposed side :)

  • @CuSTACKS
    @CuSTACKS 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What is that worth like 50cents. Not sure why you put those in a safe. They are pretty much worthless all base metals. It costs you more and time to make and stamp them and when you go to resell them it would cost you fees and waiting time to resell. If you sell to scrap yard you will never get the spot price and the yard will tell you they don't trust what's inside the bars they would have to cut them open to make sure they are 999. So what's the point?

    • @Metalstacker
      @Metalstacker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Zinc is currently valued at EUR 2,80 a kilogram. Are you sure all base metals are worthless? Copper is valued at EUR 9,80 right now! Not to talk about Nickel wich is worth EUR 17,20 per kilo! If I would sell some metals, I would defenitely not sell to a scrapyard :) Like you said, they will pay under spot price. If I would sell I would sell privately or to a local bullion dealer in great quantities. But for now I do not sell. Copper mines are closing and copper is still being used widely in all kinds of materials. I would never have thought copper to reach this current price, but I think it will defenitely get more value. Why the safe? It is a fun thing to do as I got that safe for nothing, it is just for the channel :) But eventually my goal is to stack that safe totally full with only copper. That must be an amazing sight. I estimate there will fit at least 500 kilograms of copper in it, maybe 600 kilograms. Multiply that by 10 and a safe comes in handy :) Thanks for watching my friend!

      If scrap yards don't trust ingots then would they trust granules?
      Granules are easy to make by heating the metal and dripping it directly into water.

    What is it that you are scooping out during the melt?

    • @alexanderrr1825
      @alexanderrr1825 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is the dross or slag.
      In short, some impurities float to the top when melting.
      So it's a good idea to take out these impurities to obtain purer metal.
      Some flux can be used to obtain more of the pure metal during the melt or the dross can be binned to be processed later for leftover metal.
