- I am most interested to hear what type of knife you use for Deer Hunting?? There are lots of different options for Deer Hunting knives. Here we look at some different styles of hunting / butchery / utility knives that may be used for hunting.
Haven't been hunting in over 25 years. When I was a kid and went out, I only had access to a machete and a schrade sharp finger. Your selection looks good to me. 👍
thanks Chris. I guess at the end of the day a knife is a cutting tool with a handle so you go with what you got sometimes! cheers for commenting
I like your channel. I make knives (in NZ), so spend a bit of time thinking about them !. I find that young fellas want the butchers skinner knife, because that is what dad/grandad has. The older the hunter is, the shorter their knife gets, and most older hunters are happy with a 2-3 inch blade. Light weight and sharp. I have hunted with a 5 inch blade up until about 2 years ago. Now I make and use a 3 inch blade. I wont share my webpage without your permission (this is your channel, not my advertising platform)
Great to meet you Rick. I am passionate about knives and especially NZ made knives. probably the best all round deer knife I have is a Svord utility drop point with a 3.75 inch blade. agree you dont want them too long. often I also carry a survival knife as well - bit bigger. interesting that young guys are getting skinning knives made up. what is the name of your company if you don’t mind me asking? I dont mind you sharing. cheers Dave
When I was deer hunting I just carried any of my 5-6” fixed blades. The only thing I did in the woods was field dress the animal for coyotes to clean up, the processing was always back at the garage where I had a number of skinning knives I could use. Thanks for the video, have a great day!
that’s a good way to do it. and no wastage of the meat. thanks for commenting
That drop point knife is nice, very similar to what I use! Take care.
thanks John. Yes a great all round hunting knife design. stay safe Brother 🇺🇸 🇳🇿
Greetings from the USA! Thought I’d jump over here and send you a sub. I prefer a folder myself for hunt’n . The 2 blade folding hunters are my favorite. Has both a clip point and a skinning blade. Great video!
thanks! yes good point about the folders. they are very popular here now too. thanks for the sub and commenting!

Great video, I'm not much of a hunter, but my go-to would be a puukko style of knife. Maybe also a really good sticker if I need to dispatch something big. Surprisingly, I think the Chinese Type 81 bayonets are ideal for that
thanks mate. I have an old lee Enfield bayonet, cut down ,gifted to me that was used for pig sticking. the old bayonets are so strong. the Puuko style are great. in Scandinavia they peer the Puuko up with a longer blade that acts as a type of light machete to cut branches.
How are you friend
good thank you friend
Multiple for deer hunting, some curved, some have a gut hook , it opens them like a zipper !
I have never used one of those gut hook zipper ones Jim. good to hear they work. like you I have tried multiple blades for deer too. thanks for commenting
