I was just removing my canister, and thought about using the same overflow line, and was going to make a video for others, but you sir made it a better video for others. thanks
useful info, thanks. When I had the hard starting issues a Ducati dealer service tech blocked off and abandoned in place the canister. But instead of tapping into the drain line he blocked off the line to the tank. Turns out this is a bad idea. This caused vacuum to build up in the tank to the point I could not get the filler to open! When I removed the plug he installed there was a giant "woosh" of air rushing in to the tank through the line and I was easily able to open the filler cap again. Your way is much better and I appreciate the helpful video.
ForrestMFG I wonder if your mechanic has half drained un-punctured spring water jugs piled up because he can't figure out why the water won't come out. How long did you ride it that way?
longer than I care to admit. It had been difficult to open for a while, but I still could. Then one Friday night when I was at a track, setting up for the next morning, I could not get the tank to open at all. So, working in a parking lot with a headlamp for light, I put everything back to stock. Of course the bike was finicky to start the next day, but at least I could add gas.
ForrestMFG damn that sucks. At least you had the skills to figure it out. You know other bikes were going back to your dealer with jimmity jammed gas caps.

Thanks for the video helped me out lot my bike was dying because I accidentally once over filled my gas tank so it over filled into the charcoal canister making it turn into rock so my bike was running like it was running out of gas
You might have to leave the bike outside the garage to cool when hot to let it vent, otherwise it does smell like gas when immediately garaged. Cheers!
@@marcoota in this order from easy to hard: check that both front hoses are attached to fuel tank. Check entire fuel line and quick connector at tank for leaks. Check that the battery has adequate cranking amps to fire ignition system. Check fuel pressure regulator. Check spark plugs for fowling.
Thanks for the info & instruction Fancy Animal, much appreciated! Question, do you recall what size 3-way Y fitting that was used to fit the lines properly? Thanks again!
Does this same procedure apply for the 1299? I noticed it attaches to some kind of electrical valve. I just installed an austin racing full system and got the ecu flashed and now the bike stalls all the time off idle... im hoping deleting the evap will fix this issue.
Just did this to my monster 1200s, however I blocked off the two throttle bodies with a ducati screws that they use in europe which don't use the charcoal canister. No issues starting, just removing junk EVAP parts.
Hey buddy, I know this video is real old.. but you’re a sharp dude and I’m confused. I have 2023 sfv4 sp2.. this is a EU5 super special pos. It has a solenoid that I thought I’d be able to get an eliminator for.. turns out JP and SM don’t make one yet for EU5.. what is the point of the new solenoid coming right off the canister? And is there a way I can complete that loop to eliminate the service light error..
Great vid! One question though, the gas cap recess area filled up with water after some rain with the bike uncovered. The small hole to the left is what exactly, I tried to spray air thru it and I’m not sure where that vents thru. Is that hole the tube I plugged. Did everything like in the vid. And haven’t had any starting issues. Forgot to cover the bike one night and it rained. Any help would be appreciated 🍻
Suffice it to say you still need these tubes connected to the tank though, correct? I have a 959 I'm doing some work to. I had to lift the tank to replace the air filter which means I had to disconnect the two tubes. Now I'm paying hell to figure out how to get them back on with the little clearance I have. The tubes don't stretch much and then relax back into their normal length pretty quickly. Got any tips for that?
Yes you need to reconnect the tubes, and yes Ducati used the minimum tube length possible. Put a towel between the tank and the airbox/body on the right side. Remove the right side fairings and stretch the tubes upwards from the connection by the radiator and fan. That will get you 1/4 - 1/2 inch or so. Tilt the tank up in the back and to the right, and connect tubes. Option 2 is to disconnect hoses below. I've gotten good at it so I can reach in and connect the tank without doing any of this.
@@FancyAnimal thanks! It would figure I just put the fairing back on before attempting to reconnect these tubes. Now that I've seen your video I'm thinking of doing the delete anyway. I've had such a nightmare with the work I'm doing. I got about $1500 in CF from Motocomposites and half the parts are not molded properly. Once I finally get them to believe me and refund my money I'll have to spend a little more to purchase from a better company.
@@gunsnsails just remember if you bypass the EVAP, you're going to have to let the bike cool down outside for 20- 30 minutes before bringing it in the garage, as it will vent gas fumes while hot. I own an aerospace company and live composites daily. Frankly, I don't understand the use of composites in non-high load structural or thermal environments. You're never going to benefit from the the aero mechanical stiffness at street speeds and the weight savings is trivial. Also, for the same volume, non -reinforced plastic is 30% lighter than carbon reinforced / CFRP. I'd put the money into a set of cans and a dyno tune.
@@FancyAnimal thanks for the info on the evap. I probably think much like most others in the car/truck/motorcycle world: CF is aesthetically pleasing. I'm certainly not building a Super Leggerra, I just want a good looking bike. I appreciate you talking to me!
Thank you! I just did this on my 2014 Panigale 899, which SHOULD be the same...right...right? I'll let you know if my bike catches fire on the freeway.
Yup! Same process for 899. It solved my hot start issue (I can finally check maps on the side of the road with confidence). Going good for couple months now.
General question, I just took mine off for my 2016 victory highball. Should I cap off the hose that runs back to my throttle? Or should I connect those two hoses together? Very similar, one hose connects to gas tank, the other connects somewhere to my throttle body? As of now I just capped off the hose that goes to the throttle body?
Carlos A why are you bypassing the evap can? I'm not familiar with the Victory evap system. If there's an evap solenoid somewhere in the loop, you could trigger an engine code. But assuming that's not the case, yes cap the throttle hose so there are NO vacuum leaks. Make sure to run the tank evap line away from the engine.so it vents safely to the atmosphere. I'm not recommending you do any of this of course ;-)
Fancy Animal Lol. Thank you for your response. Your video helped me tremendously:) Yes it has the Solenoid connection to, I disconnected it, but came an engine code. Not really sure what it does ? But yeah. God bless bro
saleenr6 sorry I missed your comment. I hope you figured this out. My guess is you mixed up the 2 lines and plugged the overflow line from the gas filler hole into the intake's vacuum by mistake. The vacuum is sucking the cap down.
harshwardhan patil not sure I understand your question. Servo buddy is used to prevent engine fault codes when you disconnect the exhaust flapper servo. Any modifications to your exhaust will require a dyno tune to get air / fuel correct. Many people like the tuneboy for tuning the Panigale. Hope that helps.
If you plug the purge line and then plumb the intake line to the drip line from the gas tank, you're going to suck outside air from the drain holes at the periphery of the gas filler cap.....not the air inside the tank. This will create a vacuum leak and a badly running engine. The dumbest thing you could do is actually tap the intake line into the coolant bottle overflow hose from the radiator, which would suck coolant into your intake.
A bad evap can will generally just stink up the garage with gas fumes or make starting more difficult. Sometimes they can clog your fuel system. Mileage shouldn't be affected unless you develop a vacuum leak. Removing teh evap will require that you leave the bike outside to cool and off-gas for about a 1/2 hour.
