I was born and lived in Kilburn for the first 30 odd years of my life around this area .I am 80 now ,what memories these pictures bring back especially the pie and mash shop as grandad used to send me there to bring his dinner home between two plates ,no plastic containers in those days also with a jug of liquor. I also remember going to a jazz club in the late 50s which was upstairs in the old Canterbury arms on Sunday lunch times .I have lived all over the world since those days but I have never forgotten my home town .thank you so much for sharing those photos and memories .Bill Stevens now living in spain

Hi William. This is my childhood too. Regarding the hall above the Cant, it was used as a tap dancing school on a Saturday morning for a while. I loved it.

Hi Donna. Thanks for your reply. How are you, and are you and your mum still in London. We are still here in the same block. I just wondered if Joan had moved from Cheshunt ? How's Jeff ..do you see him. I wondered what had happened to Lorraine. Used to see her a lot. Maureen lived near my Brother at Greenford but has since moved.
Anyway, your nan was quite a character, she was lovely and she would often sing Joan and I all the old songs. We used to go to parties at Ed's sisters house down the Chippenham Road. I sometimes stayed overnight if Joan and I had a late night out. Take care for now...Love Lena

Lived at Kilburn House, Malvern Place & went to Percy Rd school (1947-53). Am still in touch with two old schoolmates, John Conroy & Tom Ashmore. Wouldn't call my Kilburn time 'happy days,' too much deprivation, as evident in some of pics here. But there are some good memories.

They could have built houses where the flats were built if it was thought out properly. High rise flats don't look good and aren't nice for people to live in.

  • @catmadwoman

I grew up in the top end of Denmark Road from birth until 1957 when they started to move everyone out to make way for the flats. We moved to the North Circular Road, Stonebridge Park and we thought it was the countryside because it had a grass verge between our house and the A406 lol. It all looks so gloomy now but I loved it. Manze's on a Saturday lunchtime. Apparently, Brian Conley grew up in Carlton House, the 'new' flats at the bottom of Albert and Denmark. Washing lines hanging from upstairs flats across the courtyards. Those were the days.

@@stixkubwa hi there, only just noticed your reply. I used to live at 102 - in between the Kelly's and the O'connor. I remember nearly everyone at our end and some from the middle. We used to get free rides on the buses sometimes if the conductor allowed it. I nearly got runover by a bus as I tripped on the cobbles and the bus stopped inches from my face.
