It’s all about the path of the apples and that they don’t bounce around and get dragged down into the gap between the body and drum
You did a great job building the box
    Perfect 👍

hi, recovery rates are ok (stack reduces to about 1/3 orginal height), but as you say we might be able to do even better with a finer pulp. This year we've got tons of apples so not a real problem. Perhaps I'll have a tinker over the winter and screw in the screws a bit more (and adjust flange plate accordingly) so it takes smaller bites each time - although I suspect it may reduce the thuput slightly (although it's easily fast enough to feed 1 press). I may build a new press over the winter.

lol. The torque you've got going theres is massive, good effort. hope you get the recovery rates youre looking for.

I didn't have plans as such, I just made it up as I went along but loosely based on a design by a Canadian chap who had obviously done a university thesis on different ways of pulping apples. Basically it's a Weston style apple pulper but larger and powered at a suitable rpm. If I get time I'll try to do another video explaining how it was made - I've also nearly finished making a new Press (which can be dismantled for easier storage/transport) which I'll put out too.

Hi, I found the 32 page pdf I'd read during my research.
      cjoliprsf.awardspace.biz/Documents/Grinder2011.pdf
He concludes that the converging geometry (Weston style) design works best from all the different grinders he's seen in action - see page 21 in his pdf for rough idea of what's going on. I used screws (although he suggest not too) as trying to make blades was a faff, but took his advice on only having about 3-4mm of the heads protruding from the drum(thus taking small 'bites' each time to get a finer pulp). I also used a tractor tyre formation to (a) stop shock load on the motor/gearbox (b) tend to drag apples towards centre of the drum(i.e.try to avoid apples being pushed towards the outside of the drum and 'down the side'). Sorry I haven't done vid yet, but it's pretty cold in the garage at the moment.

    Hi
Probably best homemade scratter on TH-cam
I'm currently building a very similar scratter
    Probably using an hdpe rotor
Are there any improvements you can think of ?
that might save me cocking up too much ?
I'll take notice of mr serve cools comments re pulp size
It occurs to me that angling cutting screws in rotor back through say ten degrees would give them better "bite"

nice work lads, your grinder looks great! what did you use for the cylinder? I've been using a rolling pin with screws but think the diameter is a bit on the small side

Whoa....what a scratter. Very impressive. Looking at your press, have you used the screw type as well (similar to a grape press). I'm not sure what gives a better yield.

Nice piece of machinery!! how many kg do you press per hour? and how many liters do you get per kg?

Just looking at the 2nd half....you need finer apple bits. the pressure needed to get the juice out of bit chunky bits is colossal......think grind it to porridge........semi slushy.
