Hopefully this might start a whole new class of super competitive racing. Oh to be a young sailor coming up through the ranks with these new toys available on the block
So its a Windrider Rave that was available in 2002, made of rotomolded plastic, sold for about $12k and had a design speed of 26knots and a recorded maximum of 42 knots. Oh and could foil with a second person along for the ride. Used the same joystick control. They were a lot of fun.
It was a boat ahead of its time built with the wrong materials and without a full understanding how to make a stable foiler. The Rave trifoiler required 15kts of breeze with low chop to fly, so rivers, harbors, canals, and shore sided breezes only. It had a tendency to drag the sterns in the water due to flying control stability issues. It also had issue with the controls being fragile and the aluminum supported plastic hulls would split if left outside in cold weather. It was a cool idea, not as expensive, and again ahead of its time but it was less practical than what we are seeing above. Not many WRT's were sold but probably more than the VPR's that will be sold due to the high cost. A WR Trifolier would be $20K in 2023 dollars which is expensive for a single handed boat that was extremely limited in sailing areas versus the VPR at $75K in 2023 making it a toy for only the rich.
@@ferdinandc.ashley814 the question of durability comes in and, over time, can things like 3d printing tech be applied to bring costs down and make it more affordable. In nz that is not likely bur then Rocket Lab is flying the first 3d printed rockets so....who knows.
I love these and totally want one myself for here on Lake Tahoe. I would love to become a dealer for these and I also have a HELOC that funds in 5 days that could be used to finance these at scale.
Not seen the Hobie Trifoiler or the Windrider Vortex in the flesh but this looks like a very expensive copy of things that have been around for a while.
1:54 - It's a trimaran mate. Hope the kids have rich parents. I got into sailing with an $800 Sabot, then a $1200 Laser and a $1500 Catamaran before that. I sailed in State, National and World championships with those boats. This thing is $115,000. Thats half my house. How out of touch are these guys?
@@admacdo that's the poorest business citeria with cheap retoric that I have read in a long time xD, if your product is expensive your sales would drastically drop, period...he knows he wont sell "heaps" that's why profit margins per unit are left high.
Exactly what I thougt. Maybe in the future (: Seems like there is enough room in the the back for another seat, although it might mess with the weight distribution. Weight of a second person shouldn't be an issue if 70kg of water ballast is fine according to the video :)
With some tiny modifications, this could be a wonderful type should they bring back sailing to the Paralympics…anyone want to sponsor a 60yr old paraplegic ex-sailor?
I'm sure there will be a two seater version of this soon ! Awesome idea!!
feels a bit like the Hobie trifoiler but updated
But not as fast! ? 😞
Hopefully this might start a whole new class of super competitive racing. Oh to be a young sailor coming up through the ranks with these new toys available on the block
Reminds me of the Hobie Tri Foiler that came out years ago
A truly fantastic bit of kit.
Where can I try this? I'm a moth sailor and engineer and I am SO intrigued.

I have never been on a sail boat, but this looks like it could be so much fun.
Very Cool ! Looks like great fun - would love to see class / clubraces in near future 😊
I get a strong sense that this boat could be piloted quite aggressively by someone with a bit of helicopter training. Looks like a whole lot of fun!

Epic concept, Great future for club racing.
Beautiful!Wow!
That's brilliant!
What is the price and where can I buy that toy?
75+k 😢😢😢
I was surprised about the price point I thought it was going to be North of 100 k being all carbon fibre
how do u recover this thing once capsied? its bound to happen at some point, especially for a foiler.
This boat with a NPLP automated wing sail would be stupid fun.
That’s awesome, but at that price point, I will probably never get to sail one.
I saw one down on the handstand at RPAYC, what an over complication of a sailing boat!
Expensive windrider but looks soooo fun 👍
Iceboat for soft water 👍
hmm, it's not faster than a windrider rave, but is a heck of a lot more expensive? what is the improvement?
Oh joy...the jet ski for the sail children.
Not seen the Hobie Trifoiler or the Windrider Vortex in the flesh but this looks like a very expensive copy of things that have been around for a while.
Put a biplane rig on it and you would have a tryfoiler

Agreed, extremely expensive but for those who can afford it a great toy!
Dude, there are plenty of kids with rich parents. There are more wealthy people in the world now than ever before. They'll sell heaps of these.

It’s a trimaran in the same way an outrigger canoe is a catamaran, I guess if you consider that one it would be
looks like an newer version of the trifoiler from hobie.
Whow! Really impressive innovation. Fly-foils, uncrashable, noob friendly and looks ass bad! Now where did I put that 75k?
I love the concept but it would be even better if it had room for two? It would be twice as much fun if I could take someone along.
Than you have to buy a Hobie Trifoiler, that one you can sail with two people…!
Exactly what I thougt. Maybe in the future (:

Yes. Mate has a Hobie Tri-foiler and we easily cracked over 32 knots two up in 12-15 knots of breeze. 🙂
Would you make an F-1 car for two?
@@Airman_Fu This 'Pod; is specifically described as NOT a racer. Therefore the proposition is irrelevant. 🙂
Yo no way is this Hong Kong SAR! Yeah foiling is a very good option here as the wind is quite light most of the time.
You said mchonagy boats making the waszp but it was actually Andy mcdougal who’s making the waszp separate from him
POD RACER PRICE: $75,500.00 from their site.
if this boat is sailing on foils why is so shaking a boat rather than go smooth on water ?
he video footage was not when he was on foiling above water thats why
It would be great if the AC40 would be able to sail without batteries like this pocket rocket 🚀
What a boat!
omg it is a moddernified illusion
That's is a TRIFOILER idea!
oh the foot steering is such a lost opportunity , this could have been the next paralympic class and be fully inclusive.
That's a good idea. I bet they could find a method to route the steering another way.
Pretty simple to change that , I doubt that obstacle would stop a single determined person from finding a solution.
$75k for what that is seems like a hell of a deal
Sticker shock
With some tiny modifications, this could be a wonderful type should they bring back sailing to the Paralympics…anyone want to sponsor a 60yr old paraplegic ex-sailor?
looks a bit like a superfoiler
Try spinning-that’s a good trick!
Just go wind foiling 25-35knots !!!
it seems to me more like a PS5 game then a Sport if you dont have to be fit and dont have to make effort physically.
