  • Using 2x NVIDIA RTX 3090 GPU's to compare render speeds between blender 2.93 and blender 3.0.
    2.93 - 00:35 - Barbershop - 4m10s / (3.0 - 1m7s)
    2.93 - 02:23 - Barcelona Pavilion- 0m33s / (3.0 - 0m19s)
    2.93 - 03:31 - BMW - 0m8s / (3.0 - 0m2s)
    2.93 - 04:13 - Classroom- 0m26s / (3.0 - 0m15s)
    2.93 - 05:12 - Cosmos - 1m25s / (3.0 - 1m31s)
    2.93 - 06:13 - Fishy Cat- 0m19s / (3.0 - 0m12s)
    2.93 - 07:05 - Lone Monk- 2m51s / (3.0 - 1m30s)
    2.93 - 08:30 - Monster Under Bed- 1m30s / (3.0 - 0m20s)
    2.93 - 09:30 - Nishita- 0m10s / (3.0 - 0m8s)
    2.93 - 10:28 - Sinosauropteryx - 3m08s / (3.0 - 2m14s)
    2.93 - 11:30 - Still Life - 0m40s / (3.0 - 0m20s)
    3.0 - 12:12 - Blender viewport denoising
I am using two NVIDIA founders edition GPUs to render with the CPU disabled. Even enabling all 24 cores on the Ryzen cpu this only decreases the render time by around 5% and the combined thermal output is a bit too much for my PC to handle. So I stick to using GPU only.

Blender 3.0 Dual 3090 vs single 3090 (Founders edition) and without Obs recording a 4k screen at the same time as the render.
    Barbershop - (2x 3090 = 49s)(1x 3090 = 1m20s)
    Cosmos - (2x 3090 = 1m13s) (1x 3090 = 1m31s)
    Still Life - (2x 3090 = 0m14s)(1x 3090 = 21s)
    Sinosauropteryx - (2x 3090 = 2m14s)(1x 3090 = 2m51s)
    Nishita - (2x 3090 = 6s) (1x 3090 = 6s)
    Fishy Cat - (2x 3090 = 0m10s) (1x 3090 = 14s)
    Classroom - (2x 3090 = 0m11s)(1x 3090 = 18s)
    Barcelona Pavilion- (2x 3090 = 0m18s)(1x 3090 = 27s)
    BMW - (2x 3090 = 0m5s)(1x 3090 = 9s)
    Monster Under Bed- (2x 3090 = 0m15s) (1x 3090 = 25s)
    Lone Monk - (2x 3090 = 59s) (1x 3090 = 1m49s)

@@bravestbullfighter Oh yeah if you could get four 3060 cards it would be faster+hotter for rendering than a single 3090 and cheaper (if you managed to score msrp) . But the 24GB of VRAM is something I needed as I was running out of GPU memory for some of the scenes I was building.

Thanks for making this video! It was very informative. Now I'm left jealous haha

How did you get two 3090s? It took me months just to find an rtx 3070 and more months to get a 3060.
Wait, this is weird. In 3.0 the cosmo scene renders in 1:01 at all default settings with a 3060 and 3070. Your two 3090s should be 45-50 sec.
What cpu do you have. Mine take 28 seconds to setup the scene before it shows it renderings.

I'm a software engineer so I wrote a bot script with python + javascript to check the various sites for availability and then play some loud music when they became available. The bot also sent me a message with a link so I could jump in and buy it on mobile if I was out for example.
It ran for about 2 weeks before one became available. But at least I did get them at MSRP. Its been unreal trying to get these cards. I hope the 40xx series sorts out this supply problem.

@@DirkTeucher I kinda think the broken supply chain is going to get worse and it's by design.

I had to switch back to my 290X after my 980 Ti started tripping my PSU and even I could notice how much faster Cycles seemed in the 3.0 alpha builds. And all I ever wanted out of the 3.0 builds was to test out the assest browser, lol.
I wonder how the Vega FE would have fared if I didn't sell it off.

But wondering ... Did you use CUDA or OPTIX settings ... ?
With the standard settings by opening Cosmos Laundromat demo file, I was able to render in 00:27.98 , only changed persistant data and this time was the second render.
But I use the Optix setting in the 'Cycles Render Devices' in the 'Preferences' section.
Using CUDA, I got 01:15.46 (second render)
I also used the Blender 3.1.0 Alpha Master version.
My system: 2 x RTX 3080 Ti OC Gaming graphics cards, Threadripper 3960X, 128GB 3200Mhz RAM, Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Master MB
But anyway ... tnx for taking the time to do the benchmarks ... great to be able to compaire and to see what the RTX 30090 is capable off 👍

Hiya :D ... how interesting. All the renders in this video were with optix and the settings are shown in the first 5 seconds of the video (I have the same CPU as you but that is not used in any renders).
I also just downloaded 3.1 and did the Cosmos render with Persistent data enabled on two RTX 3090's and got 42 seconds with 600 samples. So yay ... maybe they have fixed the problem with the hair rendering slower in 3.1 :D .... looks like it.
Thanks for letting me know .

12:58 Try in preview render, select OptiX and 1 sample :D
And use only GPU(s), disable CPU from preference or it give wierd glitch

What are the avg temps you are seeing?

    • @DirkTeucher
      @DirkTeucher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

During the summer when rendering for a minute or 2 (every 5 - 10 minutes) both cards hold below 60c throughout a 5 hour session. When rendering an animation for an hour continuously they go up to 80c.
One of the GPU's is on a PCI riser cable outside the PC case. The CPU is water cooled and there is plenty of fans pushing the hot air out for the GPU left inside the case. Loads of airflow.
However when I had both cards side by side after a 40 minute render on a warm summer day I would get GPU restarts and temperature shutdowns due to the lowest card pushing heat into the card above it. If you want 2 side by side you have to water cool them for 3d rendering or have some other intense fan solution to deal with the heat. I think the best solution would be to get a water block for both cards and big fans to push air in between the 2 cards.
The temperature after an hour while just browsing or watching video is around 43c.

I was going to ask what the hell you are rendering on, but then I see you have included that info. On my 2xGTX1070 the results are less impressive (though CyclesX is considerably faster than Cycles classic). Ermm, can I have your RTX cards?

    • @DirkTeucher
      @DirkTeucher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Haha yeah making the jump from the 10x series to the 20x series was huge and then the 30 series was another 35% faster than that and now again another speed increase with Cycles X. It's nuts . And no sorry, I am keeping them :D
