seriously, I talked about gardening with my therapist before and she asked me what got me interested. My 100% serious answer was "its so awesome putting a little seed in the ground and just watching it grow into all this stuff I can eat". It truly is amazing!

Actually it looks like he watered the reaper too much, or maybe he stopped the video too soon? Typically for super hot peppers you don’t want to water them too much otherwise the pepper gets bloated with water and dilutes the heat. His reaper should be more shriveled.
This is one of the most beautiful plants you've ever time-lapsed. I love the elegant V shape it matures into.
The V-shape happens when you cut the head off of a plant.

You can setup a camera with a timer & just make sure it’s always got power to take the shots that the timer’s calling for, it really isn’t much patience involved but damn is it sweet

They suggest wearing gloves to even handle them, let alone cutting into it and getting the oils on your hands

For anyone in the US check your local Home Depot. They have a large selection of Bonnie pepper plants for $4 to $8. They had Carolina Reapers, Red Ghost, Tabasco peppers, Thai Hot, Jalapenos, Habaneros, Mad Hatters, Candy Cane, Burrito, Poblano, Serrano, Bell peppers, and more. I stocked up and got myself 2 Reapers, 2 Red Ghosts, 2 Thai Hot, 2 Candy Cane, 1 Mad Hatter, 1 Tabasco, 1 Habanero, 1 Serrano, and 1 Poblano. They were starting to get root bound but after transplanting and a light fertilization they are taking off! I swear they've grown a few feet over the last week

it's wild to see how the leaves seem to be pulsing before each new growth cycle
leaves/plants somehow react to sunlight and sort of make "judgements" based off of availability of resources.
You can see the first part of this if you timelapse a camera pointing at most of any plant over the course of a windstill day and the second part of this with a timelapse over the course of a month where you starve a plant from water.
If your want to see some very kewl plant stuff watch a video of water plants 'pearling' , the first time I saw an fish tank with a time lapse camera at work with the plant doing this with snails in the background it really hit home how much we need plant for fresh air in our homes.
It's a reflection of how often they're watered.

I like how you can tell how effected the plant is from the difference between the flowers with the light shining on it vs the ones without. None of the ones without sprouted into peppers fully or if so died off very quickly.
@@capturedflame Carolina reapers can self fruit without pollination and you can see the light directly effecting them. A quick google search would prove you wrong bro -_-

We grew these in a Greenhouse class in high school and some guy thought the Carolina Reaper was bullshit
So he took one and ate the entire thing during lunch and I've heard bits and pieces but basically he went through almost 20 of those milk cartons, threw up 3 times, cried a lot, and didn't come to school for the rest of the week
The tweezers used in this video can no longer be used for anything other than picking pepper seeds...
That is why this spiciest pepper is called the Carolina Reaper for a reason.
Years ago, a coworker was taking some night classes and another coworker had given him some Thai hot peppers that the first coworker ground up into some beef jerky. He took several sticks of this to class with him one night. The classes were two five hour lectures during the workweek and every other Saturday was either midterm or final exam. He made the mistake of eating this jerky during the first half of the lecture and using the restroom during the break without washing his hands first. He had to sit through the last 2h of lecture with severe burning pain in the nether regions.

What grow light do you use?
it's interesting to see the shape the plant took from having the light source where it was. it split low and branched out in equal paths to catch as much of the bulb's light as it could but if it were outside it would be a central "trunk" with branches coming off in a regular pattern. plants are cool.

Wow, very different from a Jalepeno plant. It would make a great ornamental in a garden (I would be too scared to eat them.) The leaves are very pretty.
I grow them, and they are very pretty when they are full of different colored peppers.

So cool that you don't actually have to buy the seeds to grow these things, you really have just what you need by buying the fruit or vegetable :) I used to always think that you had to get the seeds from when they were small or dried out or something, and that the seeds in most produce we buy isn't viable for growing another of its kind, lol. That might still be the case with some things, I suppose.
Modern Cavendish bananas, for example, are sterile and cannot grow from seeds. They are all clones of the same mother plant since around 100 years ago, and will most likely go extinct very fast once a new disease affects them. This is what happened to the Gros Michel banana in the 1950s.
My eyes and throat burn just from watching this 😆 but really this is absolutely amazing!

A tip for growing chilli plants, once they're about the height you want, cut the growing tip. This encourages the plant to focus on its other branches making it far bushier and fruitful ;)

Do you pollinate the plant with itself or how do make the plant grow fruits? Great video as always! You encourage me to grow some plants myself 😁
Pepper plants are multisex and self-pollinating. They have both sexual organs in their flowers, with the peppers being basically large ovaries that grow out of where the pistil would be on a standard flower. This process can happen just fine on it's own, however many professional pepper growers will help out a bit to ensure maximum pollination/yields. It looks like this plant in the video was mostly left to it's own devices.

Peppers are pretty sturdy (as long as you keep them away from cold temps) and do great with very little attention. You should definitely give growing some a try! I don't suggest carolina reaper though unless you are a hot sauce junky like me.

@@SuperSonic3557 Yea, that sounds like a great idea! I find plants to be very rewarding. For annuals specifically (peppers, and like your flowers would probably be), you are basically witnessing an entire lifetime in front of your eyes. Partly for that reason I really enjoy starting from seed.

It's definitely one of those things that comes with time and experience. Don't get discouraged if your first run doesn't go perfect. We have the luxury of living much longer than many plants and therefore being able to learn from our experiences with them as we go.
I appreciate you for the terabytes upon terabytes of recording just for almost 2 mins of time lapse.

I found out to? Peppers plants can be over winter. This give you a big head start on pepper crops ~ My Orange Habaneros and Fat Cayenne, was putting on fruit, at the end of March! Making my 1st harvest by the end of May on the 2 pepper plants

Have you tried to germinate seeds in a wet paper towel?
I planted one in early may and it's over 3ft tall and 3ft wide and will probably produce me 150 or more peppers this year. It's has already produced 60 and has 60+ more growing aswell as growing taller with more flowers.
