I'm allergic to peppers but I find the science behind capsaicin fascinating. It binds to sodium ion channels to mimic a burning sensation like he said. Menthol does the same on a different receptor but with cold. There's a cactus in Morocco if I remember correctly that has capsaicin as a defense mechanism but it's concentration 16 billion Scovilles, it's called Resiniferatoxin. Scientists are looking into the stuff for chronic pain because it's so much that it essentially just burns your nerve endings away.

@@mercster I'm not entirely sure tbh. When I eat any my throat feels really scratchy. I had a job at a pizza place when I was younger and green pepper juice got in my glove while making a pizza, I put it in the oven and took off my glove and I had patches of my skin eaten away. I've accidentally eaten paprika and had minimal reaction, so it might just be the oils, when I asked my allergist about a scratch test of any kind I was told they can't test for it. I may only be allergic/sensitive to bell peppers, but if someone cooks spicy food in the house my eyes burn so idk. I'm not taking any risks lol

I was going to ask if there is a cause for concern when people who are not allergic to the Nightshade family plants or the capsaicin, still might pass out or faint if they eat extremely hot peppers, then I realized that there is a fair chance that extremely hot peppers are likely to raise your heart rate, which would explain many situations of discomfort in that scenario.

Best way I found to relieve the heat is to take a small sip of milk and swish it around your mouth and gargle it for around 5 seconds. Just keep doing that and you'll get pain relief without filling your whole stomach with milk.

whenever I get a head cold I breakout the Apollo sauce.
searing my mouth and being able to breathe momentarily is totally worth it.

3:21. THANK YOU. Nothing irritates me more than when I'm watching a cooking show and the presenter says, "remove the seeds if you're not great with heat." It takes literally two minutes to demonstrate to yourself that that claim is false.

If you want to curve the heat just by a little bit drink milk before you eat anything hot it actually puts a layer of coating over your mouth and your throat and stomach it's not foolproof but it does help a little bit

I started on a regular chili and got a red face and watery eyes, so naturally I went directly to a carolina reaper sauce.
Best decision I've made, food wise. I'm now growing my own reapers and they've just sprouted a day ago.
