I have seen Robocop about 4 times (discovered it later in life) and ended up really loving it after I got used to its quirks. I never saw Robocop 2 however and I always heard that the sequels sucked. A few days ago I finally saw it on 4K. What a fun movie! It's so much better than I expected! There is so much good stuff in it, even if it doesn't bring all elements together as perfectly as part one.
I like this movie not as great as the first one but it has it's moments.
We can all agree it is still better than 3
darker, more action, more stop motion, part 2 is badass

Great another movie I'm going to have to buy again. I don't know why they couldn't just master these Blu-rays properly from the original source materials back when the Blu-rays came out. I'm sick of seeing movies I bought twice already (once on DVD, again on BD, some on a collector edition BD) finally restored properly on 4KBD.
Nothing was going to be better than the original but part 2 still Way better than 3

One of my all time favorite movies. I'll be honest.
As far as additional content goes, they could always do a little documentary on the process of the restoration/4k work they did for that release.
The 4k transfer was soooo damn good!

Robocop 2 is better than the first. I thought that was universally known and accepted lol
I’ve yet to meet a single person that thought this.
The score alone puts the original leaps and bounds ahead. The sequel is fun but nowhere near the quality of the first.

@@TRICH10 most critics and audiences agreed at the time though. Part 2 is a fun film but a bad sequel. But it’s closer to the mark than 3.
I love "RoboCop 2" -- and feel that it, like "Predator 2," gets too much sh!t -- but it's hard for me to say that it's superior to the original. However, if you had told me in June of 1990 that the Siskel & Ebert ultra-negative view of RC2 would've congealed into the consensus view of the film (at least on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic), I would've scoffed.
Yeah, the first film got surprisingly good reviews, but I always looked at these kinds of genre movies as being critic-proof. Go back and read Cinefantastique Magazine's review of "Predator." It's one of the most ludicrously p!ssy things I've ever read. Did that review -- in a genre mag, no less! -- hurt that film? Hell no, because it was a well-produced sci-fi action flick -- and those are usually critic-proof.
BTW, I happen to think that Leonard Rosenman's rousing score for RC2 is excellent. Outside of "East of Eden" and "A Man Called Horse," I'm not a big fan of Rosenman's C.V. But his soundtrack for RC2 is a lot of fun. The main melody has a kind of gunslinger vibe, which is quite apt. The rest is a kaleidoscopic mix of bits of jazz and Aaron Copland, and I love it. The truth is that Basil Poledouris was unavailable for RC2 because he was busy working on Paramount's "Flight of the Intruder," which went WAY overschedule.
I don't understand why people remain ticked at Rosenman that he, in Poledouris's absence, took a job that was offered to him by Orion. "But Rosenman should've re-used Basil's main theme from the prior film," I've heard many exclaim. Oh, you mean like how Basil paid homage to Gary Chang's "Under Siege" score when Basil did "Under Siege 2"? Yeah, because that didn't actually happen on US2, folks.

I have not many memories from when I was 8 years old, but I do remember walking to the theater to watch this with my older cousin, and how much I loved and was in awe of the movie poster
I had this movie on Laser Disc. Trivia, the only disc to run longer than 60 minutes, from memory they crammed an extra few seconds onto the disc

I am pretty much the same way. I am especially holding off on the upcoming Jaws sequels as the first movie dropped big in price and still holding off on those James Cameron 4Ks until they drop in price especially with the mixed reviews. All of his 4K movies drop in price.

Shout has the best value right now. $44 for the cool alternate, video game-style slip, plus 2 posters, & a sticker. I got it. But I get it... I only splurge on titles I love. The rest I wait for sales.

I actually like the first two equally. And the little kid is actually the same voice actor, little foot, from The Land Before Time.
ROBOCOP 2 is by far my fav of the trilogy....the best? No, that goes to ROBOCOP 1. But its my fav. ED-209 will always be my fav villain of the series, but CAIN is 2nd
They made a comic based off frank millers original script. Would’ve been cool if they included that in a bundle

Just think Aliens could've looked that good if they just did a normal and proper restoration and didnt try to distort the image with AI image "enhancing" tools.

I don't get Frank Miller's vision for Robocop, and I love Batman Year One, and his Wolverine mini-series run. Once Peter Weller left, they shouldn't have made any more films or shows.
Orion really screwed this film by rushing Miller and Kershner and not allowing them to even complete the script for the final act. And they rejected Miller's original grittier script. It's a shame to think what could have been had all these talented people been allowed to make the film they wanted. That all said, you did kind of sell me on getting this, or would have had Shout not been asking so much for it. $25 is my limit for Robocop 2. 😂
If you read "Frank Miller's 'RoboCop'"... you'll have a pretty good idea of what Miller's first draft looked like. And I, for one, am glad that Orion CEO Mike Medavoy and director Irvin Kershner brought in Walon "Hill Street Blues" Green to rewrite Miller's script. My only objection is that I wish Medavoy had given Green an extra week or two to flesh out his ideas for the film.
For example, Green wrote a (never-filmed) scene of Murphy at his precinct, gearing up to go fight RoboCain and receiving a bag of fan mail, which includes a letter from his son. Murphy reads the letter, which consists of his son telling him how cool he thinks RoboCop is (not knowing he's writing to his own father); Murphy gets a little misty, and then makes his way to his car and drives off to battle.
Do I think this would've totally solved the sequel's main issue (e.g. that it doesn't have the same level of emotional resonance as the prior film)? No. But I think if Green had more time to work on the script, he could've turned this into an entire subplot that, yes, would've gone a long way towards shoring up this weakness in "RoboCop 2." (And given that Kershner did such a good job of keeping the film on time and on budget, Medavoy definitely could've given Green the time to do this. Ah, what could've been, eh?)
Not gonna lie, I love Robocop 2 more than 1.

Solid review. I, too, have long thought that the villains in the film were Saturday-morning villainesque. I mean, I can't tell you the number of times that one of the baddies from "Captain Planet" or "S.W.A.T. Kats" would: ventilate an old woman with a p!stol; try to end another woman with a garrote; pay an unscrupulous physician to cvt open an untrustworthy double-agent; use machine gvns to annihilate the kneecaps of oncoming police officers; etc, etc, etc.
Yeah, that kinda stuff definitely happened all the time on Saturday morning cartoons back in the '90s. Definitely.

Physical Media prices have skyrocketed over the course of the past 6 months, it's ridiculous, tbh.
I noticed that too. Absolutely ridiculous! Most films jumped up $10-$12 in price now for new releases.
Irvin Kershner directed Eyes of Laura Mars(1978) and Return of the Man Called Horse(1976).

Scream Factory usually DOES have reversable covers - at least on their Blu-rays. I was definitely disappointed to not get their original art as an option on this 4K edition, as it's much better than the official studio art. To me, anyway. In any case, it's cool to have the slipcover with one art style and then have the disc case with alternative art. It usually makes any movie better. What?

Robocop’s made of titanium and Kevlar. Titanium has a blue-ish tint to it, so that is what I believe they were going for.
If you go back and look at BTS footage from the first film, you'll notice that the RoboSuit had a steel blue tint ("livid" is the technical name for it). This was kind of "overcome" via a combination of lighting and, I believe, reddish tinting in post-production on RC1. However, for the sequel, Irvin Kershner wanted the suit to be shinier (a la Darth Vader's suit in ESB); and when Rob Bottin's crew did this, the suit got very blue... very livid. Bottin was so concerned about it that he immediately phoned Kershner and requested the latter's input. When Kershner saw it, he said, "I like it. That shade of blue... It's very superheroic. Let's keep it."
I just splurged on a lawnmower man set from 101. Looked like such a silly curiosity with early 90s virtual reality graphics. Never seen robocop 2, but the us import is 50 bucks here.

Thank you Mid Level! This movie was no where near as good as the OG! There were a few “mid” action scenes, but it is NOT a good movie at all. I was bored out of my mind!

Dolby vision gives me trouble with certain discs on an LG Oled B3, the screen goes black for 3-4 seconds throughout the whole picture.
The only work around I've found is disabling 24 p on my sony x700 but it looks like shit.
Nevertheless, even in normal HDR, it looks amazing and vastly improved over the bluray from years ago.
Think it's been a while since I watched part 2
Given how disappointing most of the Robocop sequels have been, my opinion of Robocop 2 has somewhat improved over the years and the final stop-motion battle between Murphy and RoboCane is still really impressive, they really went above and beyond with that fight. They definitely seemed to take a bit less care with the suit in this one, it seems easier to see the black body suit in the gaps between the armour parts and also on the gloves.
The scene with Murphy and his wife was brilliant but sadly the film went absolutely nowhere with it. I think it should have paid off at the end with Robo saving his son from Robocop 2 or something leading to some sort of reconnection with his family. As it stands, the ending is just a bit hollow.
The first again? Never watched this one.

Movie more cartoony but really good. Parents probably complained just like with ninja turtles 1990 and then they had to make secret of the ooze like the cartoons which was still good but not cool for doing that

Robocop 1 and 2 are great, 3 should've never been made.
If Robocop 2 had stuck with the beginning of the films story about Murphy trying to still deal with the fact he cannot have his family and the focus of the film was that it could have been great. BUT, they literally drop that storyline 20 minutes in when Murphy's wife comes to visit and he scares her off. An entirely different film begins from that moment on and it ruins it.
Robocop 2014 actually did that storyline and it was much better than in Robocop 2. Bottom line Frank Miller's script was terrible, the kid ruined the film, Robocop 2 himself is a terrible villain, and honestly I do not blame Peter Weller for walking away from the franchise.
Worse of all the brilliance of the ending of the first film was completely loss in the sequel.
I totally agree. The stuff with Murphy’s wife was great, it’s crazy how it gets dropped and forgotten about for the rest of the movie. The Robocop remake for all its faults definitely got it right by trying to include that part of the story.
Whenever I have trouble going to sleep, I put on RC '14 and I'm out in no time. So, as a sedative, it's great. Hell, that action scene where everything is in the dark? Fantastic! If only the rest of the movie had been like that...
