    yea I'm 26 and go to the gym 5 times a week and still let out an audible "ughhh" when I sit down

      Christ, I'm pushing 30 and I look half your age in a bad way (bad for me, I mean.) I've been audibly groaning when sitting down for years too. You're doing great in comparison mate, you'll make it.

      I’ve been in your position and know how scary it can be. You were at the processing stage when you made this but I could see the positivity shining through the cracks of doubt. I’m sure you will look back on this and see it as the push you needed to make your dream business happen. I won’t wish you luck as you clearly make your own - the harder you work the luckier you get. Enjoy your bright future!

    Left my startup after 3 years in 2023 to unemployment and burnout. Was extremely painful not knowing what was going to happen next. I lived off of some savings and applied for jobs. Time just dragged on and on. I've now been at my new job for about a year and three months.
    I wouldn't say that I want to be here forever but I would say that I'm glad that I trusted myself to navigate the chaos of unemployment into a new and uncertain future. Looking back I just feel proud that I managed to get through it all the best I could. In the long run, it is starting to all feel less like a failure and more like something that will help me to succeed.
    Aside from work it was remembering the importance of my friends, family, nature, exercise and really any new experiences that reminded me that life isn't always so gruelling and that it was worth just sticking around to see where I'd end up.
    From the sounds of it you are smart, rational and self aware. There's no weakness in recognising your limits and there is no complacency in trying again. That's life. You've got this mate.

    I’m 59 I drove a Black Cab in London for more than 25 years so self employed all that time I absolutely loved the job for most of it and had a really good living. When all the lockdowns and Covid nonsense kicked in my job almost died I decided to take a few months off those few months turned into 4 years. I never went back eventually took two years off.
    I found new employment with a large upmarket supermarket working three nights a week the money is OK nowhere as good as potential earnings driving a Black Cab but it’s stress free. I wondered after being self employed for so long I would cope with a boss and structured hours but it’s been fine. Plus I have 4 nights off to hike and wild camp a week plus paid holiday and indeed sick pay.
    Best of luck to you mate

    • @thomaslock97
      @thomaslock97  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah there are loads of benefits to not being self-employed. Really gotta think about whether it’s worth it for the freedom. Glad you figured something out that works for you!!

    I was made unemployed for the first time last year at the age of 35 due to a business going under. Assuming that if i worked hard I was somehow immune to being unemployed!
    I have 4 kids and a wife and it was a real shock to the system, almost felt like a fuse popped. I really needed to take a step back and realise that I needed to put my own oxygen mask on before helping anyone else, even my own family, in that moment so I could function and focus.
    I'm now 11 months in with a job that is going well and looks like a promotion and pay increase is on the horizon soon.
    Take it easy and hope all goes well for you. You seem like a sensible/intelligent guy and it sounds like your mind is made up and you want to start the new business. Make it happen!!

    I came across your OEX tent review and thought i like this lads honesty only just found you have been let go so sorry to hear that. But sometimes its the push we all need to change what we do in life a door may have slammed shut but just grab the next door handle and push it open it for you and your family i wish you every bit of luck in the world go work for yourself and be the one who opens and shuts the doors when you decide but always make sure you have your little escape of camping and the like it makes all the difference to your well being ....me i use the tent reviews to help pick my next tent to go on the back of my scooter or my motorcycle yes i am one of those daft old beggers (63) who still goes out and enjoys camping and the people i meet its a fantastic realese i am still working and as for the doors i now try to avoid the ones with a bright light shining through haha good luck and god love you

You've always had my respect for always moving forward no matter what happens, you've never let life stop you even when its thrown crap your way. Best of luck with the new venture, I'm confident you'll do well! Also love the outdoors channel and totally get the want for camping. More to the video, an open ended time you're now on, at the same time excitement and opportunities. Interesting to see the camera becoming your rubber duck (yes, another dev), to present the ideas to and allowing the space and time to reflect. Beautiful surroundings for that too. Freelance vs corporate is a tough choice. With a baby and mortgage then corporate (or another startup) is a better option. Freelance is stressful, it’s not a steady paycheck. You can make more money, but with a kid it’s more stress. But, if you have a good business idea then you should go for that, because you have huge upside. And you may regret it later if you don’t do it. Corporate and freelance will always be there if your savings start dwindling.
